Newbie Looking to Make First Sale This Month

Hello all,

I am a newbie and am looking to get started in affiliate marketing and hopefully make my first affiliate sale by the end of this month. I have noted the following steps to getting my email funnel up and running in order to market my affiliate offers and wanted to get the opinion of some of the veterans on here to see if the following steps make sense. If not, how can I improve on my initial strategy? Thanks, steps below:

1- Pick a niche from Clickbank and find 3-4 products with strong sales that I would personally use
2- Discover a common problems relating to the products that I have chosen and hire someone on iWriter to write 2,000 word articles on how to resolve this issue with the products I've selected e.g."How to lose 7 lbs in 7 days using this product"
3- Purchase my first ever domain and website hosting service
4- Set up a single opt in auto responder account
5- Have someone set up a squeeze page for me to give away the 2,000 word report free
6- After clicking the opt-in link people will be redirected to my affiliate offer
7- I now have an email funnel through which I can market my affiliate links

Everything look good here? If not, anywhere you think I can improve? And also do any of you have advice for a new guy?

Thanks.

Thanks Steve, piggy backing off your second point -- would paid traffic be a solution to this issue? i.e. directing people to my squeeze page which offers the free report/eBook via facebook and google ads in order to get them onto my mailing list.

And do people view links to squeeze pages as spammy when they're posted on forums and social media sites?

      Thanks in advance.

        MG,

Yes, paid traffic is one way to generate "eyeballs" or views - but there are many, many other ways to get traffic to your site when you're just starting out. Why don't you spend some time using the search feature here at the forum and search for both free and paid traffic methods - you'll find a lot of interesting threads.

As to whether people view links to squeeze pages as "spammy" - I guess that depends upon the viewer. I would ask: how does one know if something is a squeeze page until they get there? So I would just make your squeeze pages as specific and compelling as you can in order to get the click. If you have targeted your marketing to people that really want what you offer on the squeeze page, and you have a value proposition, that's about as good as you can do.

        The very best to you,

        Steve

What Steve said above MG, starting with people and not products is an awesome way to make things pop right off of the bat. Since you are not selling to products, but people

Sometimes in a rush to make that chedda we forget that solving human being's problems is the foundation of every successful, fulfilling IM campaign. Making sales is awesome. Making a difference is more awesome and helps you make more sales too.

Pick a niche you feel passionate about. So it feels fun to work it. Then if you either hire a writer or do some content creating yourself it will be fun to track the profits and the articles and all moving parts of your IM campaign.

If you focus heavily on people, and asking them their problems, and their needs, and connecting with them 1 to 1 you will have few issues making a massive impact online. And yep, you should get that first sale in a month too.

Stay consistent and don't get discouraged if you start out slow. If your not getting the responses you want go back and rework your funnel. Sounds like you have a good plan.

The basic funnel construction is right, but without targeted traffic you really have nothing.

Here's what I do: find a traffic source with commercial intent, then see if I can find a way to monetize.

I always suggest people first learn to drive targeted traffic that doesn't depend on SEO.

Are the traffic sources with commercial intent that you speak of acquired through forum posts and social media posts as mentioned above? Or are they acquired via purchased traffic?

Also what is a realistic starting budget for purchase traffic for a beginner affiliate?

      Thanks

If you do use paid traffic, make sure you adjust accordingly to your results and look to improve your conversions so that you can continue to build a list. Free traffic via Forums, Blogging, social media should also be incorporated in your business plan.

You have the right idea, but could tweak your plan a bit.

Have one time offers in place on the Thankyou Page after someone opts in (or better yet, an ascension style sales funnel) to allow you to recoup some losses of paid advertising. Thankyou Pages are some of the most valuable and underutilized real estate in internet marketing.

After people opt in, you want to direct them to your Thankyou page that positions you between them and the offer (so then they begin to develop a relationship with you, instead of the product creator). Then they go onto your email list, and you give them the option to go through your affiliate offer.

Once they're on your email list, provide them value based emails, and also promotions where it is relevant.

Your have a good plan for a newbie. Follow the advice given here that you think will integrate with and improve your plan. Traffic is the most important part as without it you got no sales.

Email marketing has a bad rap. Why? Because in the majority of cases, it's spammy. When executed correctly, email marketing can be incredibly powerful. The trick is to prioritize the human-to-human connection above the sale. Balance automation with a personal touch.

Just a small insight that might help. Although affiliate marketing is not really my thing I do make a few sales that way.

My first two affiliate sales came the same day and I had a list of five! Didn't even have an autoresponder. Didn't need one with only 5 people to email.

My point is that as has already been said I was interacting with people not email adresses and I was in the fortunate position to be able to help them and make a sale. I've helped lots of others that I have not made sales to. I may do down the line but that shouldn't be the main aim.

Of course sales are essential for your business but if you make sales the main emphasis in your interaction with your list you will most likely fail.

Sounds like a contradiction but conversely you do need to make it clear to your email list that you will be offering them products to buy. Its the way you do it that matters.

Rather than buy a WSO about 'How to smash it with amazing emails!' Get youself on the lists of some top email marketers and see how they do it first hand. There are plenty of threads on WF that discuss who these people are.

For me the best by far is Paul Myers. His emails are entertaining, informative and sell products all at the same time. And I only get 1 or 2 a week.

You have a good plan laid down here and if followed strictly, is a jackpot. But one thing you are missing here, which is the most important thing about affiliate marketing or internet marketing in general, is traffic. Not just traffic, but highly targeted traffic. Make sure to include it in your plan before starting out. Good luck.

Yes, it's the same basic plan and can works with good traffic ( email traffic the best).

personally I prefer businesses that send passive profits every month, on autopilot. Today is very easy to find a good one.

you are just going on a right path...the only change you need to do here is try not to use Click Bank as you will be selling only digital products here, which very few people are interested in buying...better tie up with Amazon as an affiliate or Google Adsense program wherein you have a higher probability of earning big time in long run...

I'd recommend you to start a website from your passion and there is no guarantee that you will make your first sale in your first month, it may take months, the key is not getting discouraged, the secret of this is to never give up, the day you give up is the day when you officially fail.

It personally took me 4 months to see my first sale, my success started from there! I almost wanted to quit on my third month...

I recommend you to look for an affiliate training, it's the reason I succeeded at this, doing it on your own is overwhelming as hell.
    Cheers

Two tips; 1, once you know what niche you're going after and have a plan to get there, get or have 1 training course from someone reputable and stick to it. Don't get into the habit of buying courses. Be a PRODUCER, not a CONSUMER.

2- Go for quality over quantity. With the size of your list, and your traffic both.

    Good luck!

  • Overall, it looks solid.

However, you're going to have traffic problems. Biz op is a numbers game. You bring so many people, so many move to next 2, so many move to next 3 and so on.

Right now, I don't see any traffic source. People are not going to come just because you've built and uploaded this (unless it is very interesting and gets viral). So I'd focus on the traffic as this is the gasoline for your car. You can build an Hummer H1, huge funnel, top copy, but without people to see it, your biggest chance to monetize it is going to be to sell it on Flippa.

Like Ryan said, pick a niche that you are passionate about because it will make things fun.

In order to get a lot of optins you need to have a great lead magnet. A 2000 word report is great but could you maybe give away a 5 step guide that does the same thing.

The longer the content, lesser people will read through it all. People want something that is instantly consumable.

I wouldn't advise re-drecting to the sales page either, although you may make some sales, your open rates will suffer.

Don't try to make the sale straight away but focus on the value and getting people wanting to open your emails because of the value they get, the more emails that are opened the more sales you should make rather than just a few to start with.

    Hope this helps.

  • Another thing that a lot of the big hitters do is they will all have a big ticket item that they sale. Whether you create this on your own or use someone else's I don't think matters. But I would suggest doing that. Would you rather sale 1,000 $5 dollar items or 1 $5,000 dollar item?

Remember free traffic is a myth ... it takes time ... your time and that costs... paid traffic if used correctly whilst it costs should get you started and should bring in valuable revenue. Free traffic should not be your main focus... by all means include it in your overall strategy.

I use warriorplus & Jvzoo products. They seem to convert well.
I would also suggest you keep building your list through free & paid methods and send broadcasts twice daily(morning & night). I use aweber.com to segment my emails on a daily bases.

In other words, change the headlines each day or the body content of the email and send the email out to people who do not open up the email each time.
By doing this hopefully, everyone will open up your email.

Finally, important, keep building your list with new subscribers daily and broadcast via your auto responder service. the money will start coming in.

This is how I make money online:
    1. Use affiliate links on warrior plus.
    2. Build my list using a squeeze page each day (fresh leads) must do.
    3. Send quality content emails to my list with affiliate links attached. My advice to you is to find emails that convert. Search on Google.
    4. Segment each email to those who did not open up there email(twice daily). Check with your autoresponder service on how to do this. Just change the headline each time or content if you so wish.

I cannot emphasize the importance of building your list consistently.

I must disagree with some of the responses you got on this thread.... you don't necessarily become niche that you feel passionate about. Just ask yourself the question... "Will this niche support product or build lists that will actually buy product?". You can feel passionate about underwater basket-weaving, but is a niche that will support a business.

I suggest that you outline all of your interests and see which one actually has a market which can sell to. This will require some research. I agree with my co-respondents in that you need to build a personal relationship with the people that you try and solve the problem for.

With a 98% failure rate, Internet marketing is full of people with a step 10 step program to success. Remember success in this business is built on trust. I recommend you find someone who can mentor your efforts before they become jaded and discouraged because you're approaching this from a get rich quick perspective.

Do you want to make a few bucks in a moment? Or do you want to build a business?

    To your success,

My father and many of my college professors back in the early 90s would have laughed their arses off ( not in a good way at all, but a sarcastic, disappointed way) if they knew that I skipped Job Interviews when Companies came calling at my senior year in College..just because I didn't have "passion" in their particular business and Product offering

You might also want to do some Facebook ads and join groups in your niche linking to your squeeze page.

Though there are many different traffic methods, Facebook itself is by far the biggest and most popular source of traffic.

But like everything else, there is a right and wrong way of doing it.
