Is it a good idea to use free content given away to get leads - in my blog?

Hi,

I will be giving away free content in terms of ebooks / reports etc. in return for the emails of people who are interested in my chosen niche. Do you think it is a good idea to post that same content in my blog? The lead generation landing page will also be hosted in the same domain where the blog is hosted.

Thanks a lot in advance.

I believe, if you use something by paid & free, the Paid will work more & more than the Free. Please never do plagiarism. You should use the original & valuable content only.

It is not advisable to use the same content.
You can get a PLR ebook then offer it to your subscribers.

This is the strategy that many people use, and it can work very well.

I don't think it's a good idea to post the same content in your blog, content should be original and unique, that said, you can buy an ebook or something to use as a lead magnet.

It is original, though ( at least from what I gather) He seems to be taking his original material he created on his blog and conveniently putting it in an E-book so his visitors can have it in a concise, 'digestible' form ! Nthing wrong with it, mo

EDIT ; Maybe I read it wrong first time. Only if the e-book you produced is solely original then it's fine to post on blog.

Yes. Sure. I was speaking about the content I would create myself only. Sorry for the delay in the reply. :-)

As long as the content is original, then heck yes, post it on your blog.

In my humble two cents, as long as the content isn't published elsewhere on the net, then Google will not penalize you.

To my knowledge, Google will not scrape your PDF (yet) lol, so I don't think you have to worry about any duplicate content penalties.

This is just my humble two cents, but always remember, that the Google algorithms are NOT an open sourced thing, so nobody can be fully sure.

It doesn't really matter, If you post the same content on your blog. I guess the traffic for your blog is different then the traffic you are getting to your leadpages.

    Alex,

You can do whatever you decide is best - it's your blog and your business strategy so don't feel like there is only "one good solution" to your question.

Personally, I think you need to understand that sometimes when people see the same content/ideas/information coming from the same source, they tend to discount it as being "the lazy way" to put content on the web site. For instance, if someone joins your list and reads your lead magnet . . . and then finds the same information on your site or blog for free, they may feel slighted - they could have gotten the same information without having to join your list.

I think a better approach is this: give great value in your lead magnet by sharing just one valuable tip or idea or point. Make it a good one, an important piece of the puzzle, something that will encourage the reader to want to sign up to your list because he is interested in what else you might have to say on the subject. Go into some detail on this one point, but keep the overall freebie to 2-3 pages. Explain that you have other great ideas (on the same topic) as well, and you will give them away to members of your list.

Don't publish the lead magnet, but do include your branding and contact information (as often lead magnets get passed around) - so you might as well market your business to everyone that sees it.

This approach is easy to do, doesn't take extra work, and it ties your lead magnet in with your site content; but it also makes the lead magnet something that can only be gained by joining your list - exactly what you want. You can truthfully say that you haven't published the information in your lead magnet anywhere else.

    The very best to you,

    Steve
