This may seem like an unusual request but I am wondering can anyone recommend a marketing template or how they structure a marketing plan for a new website / web business. I have a set plan when it comes to setting up sites as they are usually built for organic traffic. But I am looking to create a more service orientated site that cannot just rely on organic traffic, so I want to write a proper marketing plan. I am just interested if anyone has recommendations on how they would do this. For a service orientated site. |

I'm not clear on why you think a marketing plan for a services-oriented site would be any different than a product-oriented site. If you can explain your thoughts, maybe we can help. |

A marketing plan is part of an overall business plan. Your business plan needs to spell out: * How you'll make money * What you'll do to make the money * Capital you have to invest * Competition * When you think you'll start seeing a profit... Etc, etc... I assume that creating the site is part of your overall business plan for selling your services (or someone else's). So, once you know the basics of your business plan, you'll know how much you have to spend on marketing in general, and marketing the website in particular. Ideally, you'd set up the site AFTER you created the business and marketing plans, because the site would be created as a result of those plans, to achieve something specific. Start by working out how much you have to spend on marketing -- you can't create a plan until you know the budget. Once you know the budget, post again, asking for suggestions on how to spend your marketing dollars... Hope this helps. :-) |

Selma, Yes, I do marketing plans for all my money sites. They are not as elaborate or time intensive as richnana's examples though. Maybe that's why I'm broke! They usually involve combinations of organic SEO, Blogs, Squidoo lenses, article marketing, RSS feeds, social bookmarking, video marketing, Vlogs, and Twitter. It really gets down to the product and whether it works better in a text or video medium. Many are linked to each other and nearly all drive traffic/linked to the main money site. |

Hello, Before i got those 7 steps from a website marketing plan site, personally i found them usefull , they were as follow:- 1. Begin with the end in mind - create a vision what you want your web site to accomplish. Define a vision statement i.e. “I will develop a highly profitable web site within 6 months”. 2. Set doable goals - depending on your product or service, write down one or a set of goals you BELIEVE you can accomplish i.e. “I will turn a profit of $500/month at the end of 6 months”. 3. Choose a few marketing strategies - based on your research, pick a few strategies to begin with that you know you can accomplish. This could include optimizing your web site for the search engines, placing an ad in an ezine, or writing an article to submit to online publications. 4. Create a time line and set a deadline - create a horizontal line on paper or on a white board (where you can easily view it each day) and divide this line up into days, weeks or months (or whatever duration you decide) of your marketing campaign. Then mark the beginning and ending dates of your campaign, plus what type of marketing method you are using. 5. Track your results - if you are running an ad either on the Internet or offline, track its effectiveness. Use ad tracking software to track all the links you place online. 6. Calculate your return on investment (ROI). - don't just blindly throw money into an ad and hope for the best. Keep track of how much money you initially invested in the ad and what profit you made in return. i.e. if you received $7 back in profit for every dollar you invested in your pay per click strategy, then you are running a very successful marketing campaign. 7. Constantly evaluate your results - after each marketing campaign, evaluate which strategies worked best and which ones did not. Repeat those marketing strategies that are profitable to get maximum results from them. Throw out or refine the ones that did not work well and try some different ones. Regards... |

Marketing plan is very important and really helps to keep you focus and on track...especially if you create a marketing calendar. Here's a link to a 60 minute marketing guide on the SCORE website: marketing plan This website is a great resource for business information, planning and development. Tam |
