Affiliate Secrets... Are U Getting Traffic But No Sales? Here's A Few Secrets..

I have been using these strategies for some time now and I thought I would share just in case someone has not figured these out yet...

Most of us start off in a niche with ideas of the products we will post for our visitors to ultimately purchase or so we hope... What can happen is the pages that you intend to get the traffic can often be the pages that do not get mass traffic. Why, well there are many reasons here are 3 common reasons - SEO, competition and link structure within your site. Some of the pages that just seem to get less traffic are those containing more affiliate links than others. Now I will not pretend to know the reason for this but it is my belief that pages with multiple affiliate links need to offer more content.. Like I said this is an opinion but I use this strategy myself...

So I guess you are wondering what the tips are... So, here goes

Tip # 1
  1. Find out what pages are getting the most traffic...
  2. Determine what keywords are getting this traffic for you. ( The products on your page may not be what you visitors are looking for. Find products that are what they are looking for.)

I am going to use an example that does not relate to any of my sites... Say your site focuses on computer printers and you have a page that focuses on printer paper... Your logs indicate that people are landing on your site when they search for an odd size paper... Maybe 8x14 photo paper is the keyword phrase that people are typing in the search... I know this sounds strange but I have many similar examples across several niche's... So you are getting traffic for a keyword that you never intended and you don't have the product they are looking for.... Go Find It... Get an affiliate link for a site that does offer the product... If you only received one hit from the keyword, it may not be worth your time. You are looking for keywords that are getting you noticeable traffic. I have searched for days trying to locate an item because people were landing on my site after searching for that item... It was hard for me to find as well and then after finding the product, I still had to find a store that had an affiliate program... It is worth the time..

    Tip # 2
  1. You have a page that gets tons of traffic but no sales.
  2. Try to find out if something is wrong with your sales copy. Sell them before they click the link and it leave less up to the store.
  3. Check your affiliate links and make sure they are working. If a company drops a program, your visitors may be following dead links.
  4. Change up the products, move them around or change them completely to another product. Testing is the best way... You may not find out what was wrong. But you can find out what is right...
  5. Get that traffic over to a page that does convert. Create a small link index on the page. I am talking about 3 - 4 internal links to related pages containing your affiliate products. You want the text to be specific in 3 words or less. You want your visitor to know what they will find if they click one of the links. You do not want to lead them off of your page to a page that does not have what they are looking for so don't mislead them hoping that they will decide to purchase.
Tip # 3
  1. Try to imagine what words you search when you are looking to purchase. These are the words you want to target.
  2. When people are doing research they may be more vague in their search. When they are searching for a particular item. Such as 8x14 photo paper, most of the time they are looking to purchase. A search for most popular cell phones would be less likely to be a buyer than a search for blackberry pearl 8130 cases. Even though both of these are long-tail keywords the 2nd is much more likely to be a buyer.

Well, I hope this helps someone. Please let me know if these tips helped you improve your conversions.

You are welcome guys... I hope these tips help you increase your sales. I know that they have all worked for me and though some say they are common sense, some can't see the forest for the trees. When you have been dealing with a site or specific niche for a while it helps to have someone on the outside bringing up the common sense answers.... Sometimes we get buried in our business and don't see where we are going wrong... So I hope many people will be able to apply these tips.

I would love to share my sites with everyone on the forum. Unfortunately, when people see someone in a niche and find out it is a success they tend to jump in and copy what you are doing to get where you are.... Before you know it, you have exposed your secrets to the niche and the competition pulls your rank down. You can see some of my sites in my sig.. but they are not product sites at all...

Does anyone have other tips to add to this thread?
