Hello warriors! So I just moved back to my hometown, Reno NV after a three and a half year hiatus in Albuquerque NM which proceeded a chilly five year stay in Duluth MN. I always assumed that Reno would be somewhat up to speed as far as internet related marketing, web design, online presence etc... due to the casinos/gaming technology that makes this city what it is right? Wrong! For starters I went to a business referral group meeting this morning and their number one marketing technique this group of small biz owners talked about was a cheesy flier ![]() The group has the typical '1 service provider per profession' rule and the web design slot was already filled by an older gentleman who's card I eagerly accepted. When I got home and typed in the web address to check this guys skills out I was greeted with the ole 'address not found' page load error screen! I re-typed it again to make sure misspelling was not the culprit and again 'address not found'. Yesterday my sister asked me to google a Thai food restaurant she really likes so I could check out the menu. I did, and guess what? No freakin menu, no reviews, just a bunch of lame generic national portal cites with nothing more than an address and a phone number. When we arrived at the restuarant I mentioned to the owner that I had looked for an online menu and he replied that they were 'working on that', sure dude, that place has been there since I moved in 2001. I googled reno web design for a while to see what I would find and was shocked at the lack of talent that is seeing top rankings. I'm not a web design master but c'mon if your gonna charge people to create an online presence update your portfolios from the early 2000's and bring your site up to speed while your at it. Albuquerque is light years ahead of this place (which doesn't say a lot) and I think the only thing cutting edge out here as far as internet marketing goes is the craigslist spammers ![]() Now this is a very biased opinion based only on MY experiences while being back for about 1 month but would you agree with me that this city is ready to be indoctrinated with warrior forum IM knowledge and skills? This is my first post and I plan on being very active here, once I get some cashola coming in the plan is to upgrade (thanks spammers ) to paid status and start blogging about my adventures in local internet marketing and hopefully get this city on track! If your a local Reno warrior or any where close I'd love to collaborate on some ideas, slot machines aren't the only things that should be making money out here |

Hey Jeremy Good post and welcome to the forum. This is the stuff we like to see. I agree with everything you say and especially about web developers. Most come out of the media industry where they used to get thousands of dollars for a one page spread. They move this mentality to the Internet and unfortunately get a lot of people sucked in. Offer good service and be helpful and you can do great even in a competitive market. Quentin |
