What are your visitors looking for, exactly?

It sounds like you're sat on a little goldmine, mocniyoda.

Without seeing your site, matey, I can't be much help. (Though you're right not to share it here; too much risk of introducing it to competing eyeballs.) What I can do is mention a few things (general things) that will help you out.

• Reverse-engineer your competition.
• Leverage traffic to build more traffic.
• Collect your audience.

We'll look at each of those in a moment. First - monetization. What you monetize with is far less important than how you monetize with it. If you avoid tossing up AdSense and go (for instance) the affiliate route, yes indeed, your offers need to be good ones, that's a given, but how you present (and often presell) those offers is a higher rung up the ladder. So just bear that in mind. It's something to look at when reverse-engineering your competition.

Now, despite being a card carrying limey, I'm not a football fan. (I'm more into my rugby.) That said, I don't follow football online, so I have no idea about the players (pun not at all intended). I whack football into BuzzSumo, then. I go hunting for what could be your competing sites. I slam the term "football player" into Sumo and filter for Facebook shares. I'm looking for football-specific websites that are getting a lot of love from the socials. I won't post the domains here in case I create mass competition for them.

When I have a handful of domains, I whack 'em into SimilarWeb. I want to find out if their mass-shared blog post was a one-off or if they're getting decent levels of steady traffic. I drop a few websites from my handful and I'm left with half a dozen to investigate. I toss 'em into different tabs and I go on the hunt for 2 things: what they monetize with and how they monetize. Doing this uncovers affiliate offers and affiliate networks, and I even begin to notice a common theme in terms of how the offers are presented (which makes me suspect that it may work pretty well). Well, I take notes and then return to Sumo, and I keep on repeating this process for several days. When I'm finished, I have a strong monetization plan.

Now that's a very, very basic RE method. It's of the cheap and fast variety. But it's solid and should help you.

Onto leveraging traffic. If I owned your site, mocniyoda, do you know what those 100K people would mean to me? Not money. They would mean more traffic. One of the tricks with IM is this: you build up your traffic to a basic minimum level and then you leverage that level of traffic to take it upwards and to the next level. Many methods to achieve it. A simple, free one: you infuse the media on your website with virality (you make it highly sharable) and you encourage those 100K souls to share your media like gangbusters. The intention: to spread mass awareness, to turn 100K into 125K, 125K to 150K, and so on. There are other methods, plenty. Look into them.

Last: audience collection. Marketers bandy around terms like "grow your list" and "collect your audience" but it's usually a throw-away piece of advice, without any real thought. I mean, honestly, HOW do you grow your list, HOW do you collect your audience? The theory is wonderful, but what about the how? Well, you need to find out something that your audience wants. But it needs to be something you can provide (to incentivize newsletter subscriptions), something worthy of them subscribing, something not readily available elsewhere, and top of the list now, something that will GRAB THEIR ATTENTION! Avoid a white noise (seen it a million times) incentive. But how do you do that? Well, it's mostly using your head, but you can begin by looking at keywords on SEMRush. And, remember, as you grow that list? Same as earlier: leverage it to grow your audience, to grow your list further.

This is usually a clarity issue, an attachment to numbers and the 2 fears create a massive money block in your mind, which creates the piddly profits.

Really really really focus on connecting with your 1 ideal reader. Spend all day long serving them through your blog, by aligning it top down to speak to that 1 ideal reader.

Hang out in areas where the 1 ideal reader hangs out. Open comments. Engage this perfect reader.

Doing these things will ensure that most of those robust numbers you note are not numbers, but human beings who want exactly what you have to offer through your blog, premium wise. The numbers convert into hungry buyers, and your profits increase.

Just drill down to see that perfect football fan, related to your blog title. Really get specific. Write for them and ensure your blog is 100% aligned to their needs, their wants, the latest scuttlebutt, all that good stuff.

I have a hard time understanding why Adsense would not approve your site. I am certain you would do well with it. Consider alternatives to Adsense. If your Audience is real and not bots, you would do fine with any contextual ad program.

Have you set up actual conversion goals in G-analytics? That is a good start to organizing. Also, how are you currently trying to monetize the page?

Don't really know what else to add other than this:

Have a look at paid offers in your industry. News about football and a simulation game? Not really into this industry, but check out magazines on the topic, what kind of ads are being placed there?

Is there any popular ad/game/product being shown or sold in places where your audience hangs out? If yes, then reach out to the advertisers or their competition and attempt to enter a partnership with them, with your site's popularity being your leverage.

Publish content related to said advertiser/product/ad on your site.

This is just something off the top of my head, I may have missed something but the key here is research, research, research.

My suggestion is a different approach. You say you also have 5k subscribers. I suggest that you start experimenting with your subscribers. When you send your first email, try to engage them. Let them know your situation extremely briefly. Put it in their perspective of what's in it for them and do so in 25 words or less order-of-magnitude on your situation. Ask their help. Ask what they want to get out of their experience with this football stuff.

Why first email? Just experiment with new incoming subscribers, not touch list for now.

Why interact? Partly, you might find that they want something you can find-and-sell or create-and-sell. Partly, by gaining engagement you're likely to get insights into their mindset and become able to ask better questions to get at how you can serve them better.

Getting into their perspective? Personal development industry demonstrates that looking at things from other people's perspective helps you grow yourself and your business. If you're a reader, I encourage you to read Dale Carnegie's very old but very classic book "how to win friends and influence people" as a start on getting into the psychology of your visitors and subscribers so that you can help them and get paid for serving their needs, wants and future development of what otherwise is a hobby of going to your site in tiny ways. Clearly you serve a real need and want otherwise none of them would be there. The idea is to peek into their minds to find out what the other 99.99999999999% of what they want and are eager to pay for, is -- or might be, in terms of what you might be able to find-and-then-sell or create-and-sell.

That is one good traffic and I want to know do you use google adsense? As you said you got rejected so have you ever tried to buy one?

You can use a content locker and monetize with CPA offers - Alternatively, build an email list and try to promote products of their interest to them.

The only 2 things I would so is :
1. Create 2-3 ad placements like 300x250 banners, popunders, popovers..
2. Test with few CPA (not revshare) offers. Like casino offers which have payouts from few bucks up to few hundred bucks....

Actually, if you start thinking like an affiliate,monetizing this shouldn't be a problem.

I would say to try out a couple of programs because with stats like that you should be getting a lot better results. I will say one thing is that I'm pretty sure you can maximize your earrings with using more then one network. Try infolinks because they do work very well for me and I'm sure they'd work for you and also they accept basically everyone and you won't have to take off your other ads

When someone visits a website they are either visiting because they like content so they are obviously interested but can you monetise the traffic?

If someone is only interested in the data but not in buying anything you are never going to make any money from it by trying to sell to them.

What kind of people are visiting your website and are they interested enough in the topic that they would buy?

If they are not buying then why not try CPA offers, there are a ton of offers out there and even for an email submit you can make a lot of money with that kind of traffic.

There's not much I can add here as you've been given a lot of good and sound advice.

Although, I would suggest, once you sort out your basic monetization issues that is, that another way of converting your traffic into money is creating an app based on your website and with the same content but nicely compacted into a well-designed mobile application.

The app would be free to download and contain odd advertisement units here and there with the possibility of getting rid of the ads once the app is purchased for a small fee.

First, you should determine what your leads are looking for. If you monetize your website with the wrong product they may not buy. I would advise you to have a sign up page by the side of your website so that you have them in a list and promote to them from time to time football offers or anything you think they may be interested in.

i was in the same position years ago, and basically learnt that things come and go, but if you not testing stuff, prodicts, and building your list its not really the best way to capture profits.

I would say doin your email marketing, and building your list you cuold be doing six figures very fast.

I think you should have thought this one through a little further.
