Default Problems with Buyers who abuse Chargebacks/Unauthorised Claims on Paypal

I'm so damn annoyed!

Here's what happened.

I ran a WSO a few days ago. It's in my sig. One guy with the email gaurav paid me $37 for the product and I immediately sent it over. 15 mins later he claimed that he didn't purchase it and demanded a refund. He claimed that it was bought by someone else I was like wth.. how and why would a person just randomly use a hacked paypal account to buy a random eBook on a forum. Wouldn't you just change the password??

And here's the best part, the so called "unauthorized seller" conveniently left a link as a purchase note to the original WSO thread so that gaurav could access it and use it against me and say I was providing refunds so he could've just asked for a refund instead of resolving to this.

That link in the purchase note was the ONLY way gaurav could've found out where the eBook was bought. So thoughtful of the "unauthorized seller" don't you think?

Of course now I have an unnecessary Paypal dispute on my hands because of him. So he's either a cheapskate liar who's cheating honest sellers or a careless idiot who let his account get hacked.

And what's worse was that I found this pm in my inbox.

i have registered on the forum and now i will send pm to all those asked information from you that you are a scammer and dont offer any money back guarantee despite saying it on the thread.
tell me you are refunding or not
He was friggin threatening my integrity!

Btw, I have provided 2 full refunds for that WSO to this date and I will continue to do so if you feel that it wouldn't work. My reviews speak for themselves and my buyers can vouch for me. I have nothing to hide.

The thing is that gaurav could've just requested for a refund if he wasn't happy with his purchase and I would've given one straight. Now I'm just pissed and his $37 is gonna be on hold for about 75 days. Whoopee.

And even now I'm nice enough not to post his paypal email here.

What people would do just to get something for free... >_>

Sellers please be aware of this and take caution.

Rant over.

Sorry if this is in the wrong section.

Thanks for posting that.

I've been burned three times by "supposed" people that had their Paypal accounts hacked. Fortunatly, they were very small items. (I was helping my son sell some of his Yu-Gi-Oh cards).

We made the sale on eBay, got an immediate payment, then sent them via regular mail. About 4-5 days later, got a dispute notice from Paypal, saying someone unauthorized bought these. And they charged my account. This happened three times with the dozen or so cards he sold. Pi$$es me off because Paypal doesn't do anything at all to help. I answered the dispute promptly, then never heard back.

Paypal has a huge problem with people hacking accounts. The financial burdon of it is ALL covered by the innocent sellers.

The way to avoid this is to send the buyer an e-mail AFTER they pay, but BEFORE you ship. If it was a hacked account, you will not hear back, because the true account holder didn't make the purchase. Of course this only works for hard goods, not something you are sending electronically.

I have learned that in the online world, there are many more crooks than offline. Even people just buying goods, getting them, and requesting a refund. It's just a cost of doing business for those of us selling ebooks and software.

Did you log the IP that downloaded the material from you?

Have paypal compare that to the IP that was logged when buying the product

We have won a few "unauthorized" disputes like this...

On the flip side though...The person that you are talking about here has purchased 2 products from me ( I searched for the name in my email) and has never requested a refund. Is it possible that his claim could be true?

These are just common problems that are faced by Internet Marketers. The responsibility lies on the sellers to think of ways to prevent this type of things to happen. Your idea of sending an email to the buyer before shipping can give much relief to the sellers. Thanks for sharing this useful idea. It's also time that Paypal improves its systems to prevent these type of hacke or else it is going to lose its market base.

Alright, I've settled it with him. Still not 100% convinced he's not making this all up but I've got no choice. This is the second unauthorized claim I've had to face and I wasn't going down without a fight. Anyway, it's all good now, thanks for the advice. A lesson learnt I guess.
