Im trying to add an image to wordpress. Its stored on my computer and i am able to get it to site. However, when i preview it, it only has a small square box with a red x in it, and the written description ( no image). Does anyone know what i've done wrong? Thanks

Are you using FTP or the WordPress uploader? It sounds like you're using FTP and your link is pointed at the wrong place.

    Possible causes:
    - your images are huge (file size in KB or MB) and they fail to upload
    - your image upload path is not set correctly: check in Settings > Miscell

Can you check via FTP if the images really went up to the server? in the wp-content/uploads/2009/09/ directory?

Maybe you didn't upload it properly? From the looks of it the path might be wrong. Check if it's on your server.

Try to access the image from your browser address bar,

    eg www.yourdomain.com/folder/image001.jpg

    Can you see it ?

If yes, uses this link to point to the image in your post.

If you cannot see it, that mean either it is not in your hosting folder, or you have refer to a wrong link.

    Hope this help.

I can see it on my server. I went to cpanel, file manager. I can see it directly under my domain, but its not in a folder, just listed under my domain. I tried to move into the uploads folder and got a message saying dest and source are the same.

If there's a red x, then the image is not found.
You can get the link where the page expects to find the image by right-clicking on the X and choose something useful from the context menu -- like "copy link location" or "open link in new window" (it will open up and a page will show that the image isn't found, but the url of the missing file should be in the address bar of your browser.

So, after that, it's just a matter of putting the image where the page expects to find it.

I think that's easier than just putting the image in some "expected" place in wordpress.
(it's kinda like good marketing in that respect. Provide stuff where people (or pages) are looking (or linking), rather than trying to get the page to point to wherever your image is.
