Advertising for Women's Lingerie

Hi there

I sell women lingerie online, and was making some sales through Facebook but within a week my account and my site domain had been flagged and blocked for violating community standards. To sell lingerie you have to show half naked women, there is no two ways about it, so I have to kiss Facebook goodbye.

I am trying adwords but its effectiveness is very limited, or I am not doing it right.

I am an experienced salesman in the brick and mortar economy, but not online.

As far as short term solutions:
-is there another highly targeted network that can do what facebook does, but without the stringent community standards?
-how do you use social networks to market your product without being labelled a spammer? (just got blocked on Quora)

Many of you may have noticed that I lack basics in e-marketing. Where should I start? I like learning by doing.

Thanks a bunch

    1. Don't Put the same messages all the time.
    2. Try Facebook paid campaign to reach the right audience.
    3. You can get you page back by submitting you information to face book.
    4. Face book doesnt allow sales point of view content.
    5. You can alternatively create new page on Face book with different user name.
    6. Be sure not to violate the terms of Face book to get error again.
    7. Join with some seller sites Like Amazon, Gbumbha, Flipkart to market your products.
Hope this might help you to grow your business.

    • The funny thing is that this was a paid campaign. I appealed their decision and they sent me a robo-answer saying that they do not look at these matters one by one, its an algorythm.

What do you mean by "sales point of view content"? do you mean normal sales copy?

        1. If you had some knowledge of seo point, you may have not asked this silly question.
        2. Every 1 here know its all works on algorithm.
        3. They don't sit and see 1 by 1 post that is posted on Fb.
        4. For a better understanding type a message on Fb, do cut, copy & past for 4-7 time you will get the answer.
5.The funny thing is that this was a paid campaign. What is Funny in this? he is doing business, try to help him or correct him & don't mock at people. be bit matured.

    Hi Instruments and Lessons,

Facebook is a social network, not a search engine, not a classified ads site, so they expect your ads to promote social networking pages, not products and services.

Social Networks, like Facebook are for social sharing, and tolerate ads, but mostly when the advertisers help to promote social sharing on Facebook. They take a dim view of any ads or promotions that point to web pages on websites outside of the FB walled garden.

Yes, it;s true that you can place a type of ad that takes users away from Facebook, but Facebook tends to discourage that type of advertising and require a high cost to advertise that way on FB. Ads are cheaper on Facebook if the ads are promoting a FB page.

Since Facebook targets young teenagers, as a primary demographic, they have community standards that don't allow for the promotion of Adult themed products. You have to make your ads fit the standard of a children's book club if you want to avoid getting ads disapproved.

The fact is that you do not "have to show half naked women" to sell lingerie, you can use straight forward sales copy and tasteful product photos to sell all but the most raunchy lingerie. Photos only help to draw the eye's attention, and to support the sales copy. Learn to use photos for advertising the right way and you can accomplish the task of selling lingerie online.

Your ads need to fit the channel standards and style. Try creating ads made specifically to promote your social pages and make sure your social pages are actually good at being social. If you can't bring yourself to doing this then you should look for advertising channels other than social networks.

Social Media marketing differs from other advertising channels. The idea is to be great at socializing on social networks and you will get business because of your social networking activities. Social Networking Ads work best at promoting social networking pages. You need to give your audience what they came for, social sharing. Your ads have to be relevant to your audience, you get business as a result of your socializing activities,

Any decent sized social network will have stringent community standards. You need to conform to those standards, or forget about advertising within a social community of any significance.

If all you are selling is the raunchiest type of lingerie then perhaps you would be better off targeting pornography websites as your primary ad channel.

    HTH,

    Don Burk

Funny, my wife buys stuff advertised on Facebook. She bought a table for a TV today, had it delivered (local seller), she knew the seller. Good deal.

        Hi yukon,

Funny, you quoted me out of context.

If you would have continued reading, I tried to make it clear that you can advertise products and services on Facebook, they just don't want you to send that traffic to any place outside of Facebook, (the old "AOL walled garden" concept).

Facebook Ads offer many ad types, and most ad types on Facebook point to other pages or posts on Facebook. However, they do offer a type of ad that can point to your website, but you pay a huge premium for clicks on that particular type of ad, presumably because it violates their "walled garden" concept.

Facebook also discourages active bid management. If you elect to manage your own bids they force you to pay a much higher premium on CPC than if you allow their automatic bidding to manage your ads. Facebook is not very friendly to advertisers that want to generate traffic that goes outside of Facebook, nor to advertisers that want to optimize their own max CPC bid strategy.

And that's just the tip of the iceberg, so to speak. FB has been overstating click stats for years and was successfully sued and forced to refund overcharges to advertisers. FB is all about making Facebook bigger and treats advertisers that want website clicks as a competitor, because in a way they are competitors to FB.

The bottom line is that FB is a whole lot more friendly to advertisers that pay to promote Facebook pages and posts. That was my point. As an advertiser you pay a severe penalty in costs if you try to send traffic away from FB. They want to keep all of their traffic on FB. It you develop a strategy that fits this concept it can be a lot more cost effective to advertise on FB.

So yes, your wife can buy stuff that was advertised on Facebook, but the advertiser, if smart, is paying for ads that go to their FB page, groups or posts. Otherwise, the advertisers is paying a costly premium to go directly from ad to a web page outside of the FB website. Odds are that your wife bought from a page post rather than from a directly linked ad. That is generally a better strategy for FB advertisers.

Try and figure out where and how your competitors sell lingerie online, what channels do they use

Was your account blocked because of the way you were advertising your products or because you were showing photos of your products worn by half naked women?

Intimates have a huge market. Women 18 and above would buy these kinds of products. It pays to invest in a well-designed website. One that's classy and sexy at the same time. You can also market your products through Pinterest and Instagram BUT, instead of showing your products being worn by real women, you can use mannequins for a change, and see how that plays out.

    • They said that it was because of the pictures, I also suspect that a competitor may have flagged me.

      Thanks for the input

Try using a mannequin to show the lingerie on your Facebook page/ads.

If you make or design the lingerie yourself (i.e. you're not simply an affiliate), a good additional outlet to consider is Etsy. And you could probably use your existing pictures there.

I don't blame facebook for flagging you. But, why do you have to use half naked pictures of women to advertise Women's Lingerie? How about picture of man and women arguing and message "Do you know how to fix your relationship?" Or "Marriage getting boring?" Picture of men and woman not looking at each other and bored. And link that to your site. Be creative! Ask yourself questions about your product, why and who buys your products? Why do they buy my product? and Send the message to them!

    I&L, there's half-naked and then there's half-nekkid. There's a difference.

Same as there's a difference between nude pole dancing and strip tease. Adam & Eve manages to advertise on network TV by using the tease. So does K-Y, selling specialty lubricants. Heck, Trojan managed to pull off a campaign for a "personal massager" for women by using a wink-wink style of ad.

This is what you are trying to accomplish selling lingerie on social networks like Facebook.

    Hello,
Never use Facebook ads, it is like google adwords, you pay a lot and the ROI is very bad.
    I use linkedin, twitter...
Only FREE, it is longer but very benefits.
Search people from your niche with the search tabs.
    Then contact them :
Hello, how are you doing ?
then after the answer : hello, very good You ?
Good too, I would be very happy to exchange our different experiences, are you in the network since a long time ?
    Since 2 years.
Thank you, I am in since 10 years, where are you from ?
    New York you ?
From Paris, what is your main activity ?
I work in an american Bank
Good, I am a Professional Tourist, what about your job in the bank ?

    And so...

    Only start with general discussions,
And use the change of conversation, with a new question.
Pique curiosity with small words like : "I am Professional Tourist"

The question is what is this ? He would like to now more about what is Professional Tourist.

    I hope that will help

Your best bet is to move to Instagram influencer marketing. Start your own page and focus on two things: connecting with your target audience and identifying fashion influencers.

To connect with your target market, find popular fashion/lingerie brands, influencers and photos and follow the people who follow and like those brands, influencers and photos. There is a simple iMacro that you can run which will automate this and can easily gain you 50-100 target followers every day. It will go to the Instagram profile you like and follow 6-10 profiles before moving to the next one. It has a delay built in to prevent getting banned.

Once you build a following, start reaching out to influencers to promote your products. Most influencers will want to have control over the creatives they post. But, make sure that you make it clear that you can use any of the creatives they post and can use it on your Instagram, site, marketing campaigns, etc. Then launch a campaign with your influencers to either raise your brands awareness (like/repost/contest) or generate sales (discount/featured item).

    Hi Instruments and Lessons,

Is there another highly targeted network that can do what Facebook does, but without the stringent community standards?

No. There are no other social networks better than facebook. You could use facebook for marketing without getting blocked. Make sure you do it the right way. Just posting your links on every group is not a good idea.

How do you use social networks to market your product without being labelled a spammer? (just got blocked on Quora)

It's strange that you are getting blocked on every social network. You must be doing something terribly wrong. I have used Facebook and Quora to attract lots of visitors on my website without getting blocked and I'm still doing that.

What content do you post on these social networks and how often?

Marketing online and offline are two different things entirely. You market your products with subtlety. Whatever promotion type you want to involve with, use them without being aggressive.
