I thought about that too, but there are already quite bit out there, and most of them are selling for over $20. Seems competitive already.

Trump will keep saying and doing crazy things, it's hard to keep up. Covfefe has already passed I've to say. Wait after Comey's testimony next week and for sure, something new will spring up.

Yep didn't think about that. But could be a potential right there.

Trying to capitalize on an inside joke is too much work with little reward.

One of the biggest changes I see in IM from 10 years ago is this:

Any time you see something you think is "next trend" or "fad of the week" - some company has likely beaten you to it. Not "person" - but "company". I've looked at similar trending phrases only to find every domain has been registered and is up for 'resale'.

I admire those who can capitalize on recent trends and items 'in the news today' - but to me it's just too much work to keep up with. What 'in' today is 'out' tomorrow and it seems like churn and burn.

I think, too, there is a risk of going too far without meaning to - or with the belief that 'anything goes'....and that can backfire. I watched Kathy Griffin on TV yesterday as she cried about people turning against her and how mean they are to her. Standing with the leading tabloid lawyer by her side complaining her career is being harmed and blaming the butt of her 'joke' for it. I mention Griffin because these days no one is immune from being ostracized or humiliated online...and "I'm sorry" or "didn't really mean it" aren't working so well these days.

No sympathy from either side. I prefer niches with long term potential and less chance of backlash.

Kay, its all a publicity stunt on her part. She knows exactly what she is doing. Her career is not over by any stretch. I never cared much for her. She is just a vile person, imo.

Honestly, I think Kathy Griffin is finished from this whole debacle.

Was it a publicity stunt? Absolutely. Did she know what she was doing? Yes.

Did she expect the backlash to be like this? hell no. The whole thing backfired on her HARD.

She had a big comedy tour coming up. So my guess is that she used this stupid photo shoot as a way to be 'edgy' and try to get publicity right before her show. She figured if she did something like this.. Surely everyone would be talking about her and heck, she'd probably get on all the news shows which could get her TONS of buzz.

and it blew up in her face.

As a result, she just got fired from CNN (which seriously takes a lot lol).
She will no longer be hosting the new years eve show (which she has done for like 8+ years). She lost all of her sponsors/endorsements (including Squatty Potty) and to make matters worse, she got ALL of her upcoming shows cancelled.

That's a big deal. There's going to be a lot of pissed of people that booked the venues and put money on the line that may end up suing her as a result.

Could she recover? Sure. Is it likely? I don't think so. She's going to have a damn hard time booking anything after she just lost so much money for so many different people.. and at this point many people are just going to see her name/brand as being toxic.. and even if they like Kathy Griffin, won't want to risk it

I'm with Kay King on this but I have a family member who releases trend t-shirts. Her Covfefe one made a couple thousand in a day.

She actually made several designs (which I would guess is the key) one stuck and got a bit traction and hey presto.

She does this kind of thing regularly. Naturally there are a lot more misses than hits but the hits seem worth while.

I think the fact that she's a graphics person helps as she can get the t-shirts designed and online really quickly.

She's really active on social media and forums so spots trends quite quickly.

It's really not for me but it's worth seeing that there are alternatives to the teaching of evergreen. As my guru is fond of saying:

'Only a sith deals in absolutes'
