I am absolutely in shock. I opened up the mail and it looked like your typical snail mail spam. It wasn't. There was a personal note, hand written, by Alice Seba. Now THAT is marketing folks. I don't normally bother with most things I get told about, but when somebody takes the time to send you a personal hand written message, it's hard not to at least take a look at what they have to say. We can all learn a lesson from this kind of personalized marketing in a very impersonal world. Alice, if you're reading this...you hit a home run with me today. |

Hand written? As in actually written and then scanned in as an image or just hand typed? Tom Brite |

I think he means actually, literally hand-written. Snail-mail, you know? ![]() Oops, sorry Steven, I posted at the same time as you and without seeing your post: that'll teach me to wander into other people's conversations! (Actually it might not ...). |

I know I've read before that Dan Kennedy used to the do same for his best clients... he would also take the time to learn something about their niche, then keep his eyes open for anything relating to it. Every now and then he'd mail a newsclipping to them with a note... "saw this and thought of you" or some such thing. Definitely adds a very personal touch.

I just heard a story of another fellow realtor who's made $400,000 this year. (yes, I'm also working a realtor..) The story goes like this... In his 1st year of working as a realtor, he rented a big truck and bought 1000 pumpkins (obviously on a Halloween day) from a farm. Then he went around his entire complexes of townhomes and HAND-DELIVERED a pumpkin to each home. And he does a garage sale for any of his clients who wants on HIS expense every year. Now it became one of the well- known events that people flock around. I heard this story last night from a friend who happened to live in that same complex. According to her, she said she was really undone by what he did and how he selflessly served his clients. So even though I'm a realtor myself, she shared that she was thinking about selling her house through him instead. (ouch!) Guess this story kind of goes with your story with Alice. A lesson I got out of this was if you TRULY care for the benefits of others more than yours, you CANNOT but succeed no matter what... Hope what I shared was beneficial to some of you. |

My Realtor actually sent his sons and a box truck to help us move into our new house. Talk about (my) realtor for life. |

It's amazing, yet kinda sad how we all react to something that has a personal touch to it. Just goes to show how impersonal a lot of this (marketing) stuff can become. That's why it's always good to have your ladyfriend to pull you back into place. (:P) My ex likes to try and get people to signup for things through her refferal links (to sites like mylot, not offers) and I see the amount of work she puts into it, and the responses she sees. Makes me step back and take a closer look at what I'm doing. Very refreshing. It's also funny to see how quickly the digital world has taken over. 'Snail Mail' being a term of the early 2000's and earlier. Sorry, rambling. -Aidan. |

Welcome to the new age of marketing... lol Snail mail has been so neglected for so long that those who use it stand out easily from the crowd. I don't really want to use this thread to spam but a company I'm associated with provides the best of both worlds. I use a completely automated online system that lets me type a message into the system... in my own handwriting (turned into a font)... it then prints, stuffs, stamps and mails... all for about a buck. I have MANY local businesses using this system... they rave about the responses they get. Anyone who wants a free test drive can PM me. Tsnyder |

I love hearing stuff like this...cuz it restores my faith in humanity...and tells me that some people still "get it." Alice Seba is one of them. Those who are regular listeners to my Sales And Marketing Behind The 8-Ball show...are well aware I've been preaching the merits of hand written letters...and stamps licked by one's own tongue....for a long time now. In fact....I've used the following quote at least a dozen times on my show over the past year: "Old school marketing techniques often work better TODAY...then they did...back in the day..." Why? Because no one bothers to use them anymore! Because most Internet Marketers are too damn arrogant and lazy to consider the fact that a handwritten note...even short, crude, and filled with chicken scratch---still carries a hell of a lot more weight with the person receiving it via snail mail...then the greatest manifesto you could ever send via email. Believe it! Better yet...prove it for yourself...and do it! Got a great customer or two or three? Write them a note of appreciation... even if your handwriting sucks....stick it in an envelope you'se addressed yourself...lick the stamp and mail it. You will stand alone...because no one else has the "time to bother." And I assure you....communication delivered in a brown paper bag.....doesn't get deleted or sent to some "spam folder" either! Your customer will remember you....I assure you. That's not old school marketing...that's smart marketing. xxx Vegas Vince Legend. p.s. Good God, Waggs. Please don't send the poor girl back one of your 297 page handwritten novels in the mail...or you are going to lose your ass in shipping charges. |
