Are SWF and FLV players free services or do they cost money?

I'm fairly certain you can get free ones to use on your site but why not use youtube? It'll save on bandwidth.

Youtube doesn't look professional and moreover it allows the user to click on the link at the top which lets them go to youtube. I don't want that to happen.

        Hey Reviewer

I used to go with YT when starting out but now I got with Swf's most of the time.... I find (being a mac user) that sometimes encoding and replaying FLV's can be a problem on older systems such as windows 98 with IE 5 (a hell of a lot of people still use this), and you can't afford to be alienating any potential customers.

Swf's are great, I use them all the time, they look neat, tidy and professional.

The only way to find out for sure is to try and access your site on as many platforms and web browsers as possible and see what works and what doesn't... For me though, SWF's win every time

        Cheers

If you don't want to use Youtube, go with Blip.tv. I'm VERY happy with them and the players look awesome and are highly customizable.

If you want to self-host the video, you can't go wrong with the standard old JW player.

Screencast is also a decent option.

I'm using JW Player and I set a custom skin for it. Looks good IMO. Making lots of sales too, so I guess it looks good to others too.

More important than the player is how you're delivering your video. I see many using just Amazon S3, and then you get the stuttering as the video stops to buffer. Add CloudFront into the mix and you get blisteringly fast buffering.

    Go with Youtube.

That way, you open yourself to MORE traffic from their page directory.

Also, if you host your own vids, it may not load as quickly depending on your host and visitor's cpu specifications.

Youtube vids are more optimized for viewership in my opinion.

I don't know which play is the most professional and this depends on different needs. I use playerdiy.com on my site
which is an easy and effective solution to web player. Users can add logo to the player. So I think it is suitable for commercial business.
