Problems with DLguard on my site, any other automatic download program for ebooks?

I get the feeling the days of the ebook are possibly thought to be long gone, but I still make decent residual income off of mine, so will keep the engine running on my site / business.

Recently, I updated my site to PHP7 (had to update the PHP to keep up with TLS requirements PayPal needs), and my whole site fit well on the new server settings, everything except DLguard.

If not familiar with it, DLguard is something that, after someone orders, sends them a link via email, where they can download the ebook.

However, my developers said it was "breaking the site" if you will.

I was wondering if:

1) have you come across any similar problems, or are you familiar with dlguard, and if so, what do you think may be preventing it from working

or

2) are there any other automatic download programs like this?

Thanks

Anything else like this? I rather not pay a monthly fee. Just one time fee.

    David,

Have you asked DLGuard if they have suggestions or a solution to your problem? If their product really is "breaking your site" . . . most likely others have experienced similar problems and DLGuard may have a simple work-around that is easy to implement.

Actually there are many popular solutions for IMers that "after someone orders, sends them a link via email, where they can download the ebook." You shouldn't have any trouble finding something that will work for you - and fit into your budget. E-junkie is just one alternative I have tried.

    Good luck to you,

    Steve

Ejunkie has temporary download links as part of its service - I use them for a few of my ebooks where I use them as overall product catalog, affiliate management and download manager on top of Paypal, 2CO and Clickbank

Yes, I've reached out to Sam from DLguard several times already, including going back and forth with hosting. Nice guy, but unfortunately, he hasn't been able to solve the issue yet.

The $5 a month e-junkie doesn't look that bad, might have to do that. Still hate the idea of paying anything monthly, because it will go on in perpetuity (even though it's a minimal expense)... DLguard didn't have that issue, and was hoping to find something else like that.

    Hi David,
DL Guard is a very good product. The problem is (from what I understand about it), while the download link is protected, once someone downloads an eBook, it can still be emailed or copied to a flash drive and shared with others. From the research I've done, it's been estimated that "sharing" eBooks with others that did not pay for them (which is stealing), represents a $15-$20 million dollar loss (for product sellers) every year.
One way to avoid this, is to put your info product/eBook on a membership site. Break the chapters down into individual lessons, number and title each one and then upload to your membership site. I've tried several and found that www.thinkific.com to be very easy to use. They have excellent customer service and they also have a FREE plan if you only have a few products to market.
    Hope you find this useful,

Just a note: Putting content behind a membership site is a reasonable alternative, but it doesn't stop thieves that want to steal content. Password sharing, copy and paste, screen captures, and other devious strategies make ebook security a difficult task.

You always have to weigh product security vs. customer utility. Take reasonable precaution but don't make buyer access so difficult that it becomes a pain or you'll have lots of customer support issues.

Personally, I think the best strategy is to brand your products with great value traced back to your web site so that even if they're stolen, it may still help to bring new customers to your business.

    Hi David

Well, switching platform as if starting new life, from beginning, so stick with current platform and try to find solutions or hire an expert to help you.
