Print it off, one address = one sheet of paper, it will only take a forest to print the 80000 sheets.

Then one sheet at a time, shred it, slowly

Good points - I was just curious about them at any rate, but the fact that it is still not "your list" is certainly a giant red flag.

Hmmm, unfortunately you are probably right about that as well, which is a shame and another black eye for IM I suppose.
Use a double opt-in, and send out an offer for them to confirm being alright with it. As long as they have to confirm and can opt out once they do, it isn't spam. If they don't confirm, they never hear from you again. If they do, then it's their choice. Make the most of it.
I like your style. This is basically what I had in-mind when I posted my earlier advice - but I DID miss the restriction against emailing links to websites which are commercial in nature (such as a sales page or any page containing adverts).

According to the CAN-SPAM rules described on the FTC pdf (an Email is NOT 'SPAM' unless it's 'commercial' in nature (i.e. sending sales literature and/or product/service offers in the 1st Email) or contains a 'link' to any electronic 'site' or 'page' which is 'commercial' in nature.

Section 7702(2)(C) of the CAN-SPAM Act directs the Commission to
“issue regulations pursuant to section 7711 of this [Act] defining the relevant criteria to facilitate the determination of the primary purpose of an electronic mail message.” The term “primary purpose” comes into play in the Act’s definition of “commercial electronic mail message,” which is “any electronic mail message the primary purpose of which is the commercial advertisement or promotion of a commercial product or service (including content on an Internet website operated for a commercial purpose).”

Specifically,
“commercial electronic mail message” encompasses “any electronic mail message the primary
purpose of which is the commercial advertisement or promotion of a commercial product or
service (including content on an Internet web site operated for a commercial purpose)"

ftc.gov/os/2005/01/050112canspamfrn.pdf

Thus, one MAY send out 1 'email' to many multiple recipients (such as the aforemntioned "80,000 email addresses" so long as it does not contain any 'commercial' content' OR links to sites or pages containing 'commerical' content'.

Sending out an email containing no commercial advert or offer and NO such links IS allowable. Therefore an email which directs a recipient to an 'opt-in' or 'double opt-in' site or page (bereft of 'commercial' content)cannot be considered 'SPAM'.

Of course - sending out the same message to 80000 people in one bulk transmission COULD offend your ISP. Better to parcel it out to them (1000 per day?).

Frankly speaking, these emails that you have bought may not help you. However, if possible, you may try to make friends with them through Facebook or .....BUT remember, DO NOT SELL THEM ANYTHING!!!

Paul, thanks for your post. I am a newbie to the War Room, and the last thing I want to do is break any rules, or violate the Spam Act. I would appreciate any feedback on my current plan of attack.

I am starting with zero email list. I purchased 80,000 Co-Registration leads from AdBlastTheWorld. They claim that these are business opportunity leads, who have already responded to an online opportunity, and then checked another box saying they would like to receive more info on other opportunities. Which are double opt-in.

I then signed up for an autoresponder called FireReply, which specializes in sending larger lists, up to 10,000 at one time. I don't send any emails from my IP address.

My approach is to send an email to these lists offering a free gift of a $27 ebook from my online digital product store. On my first try I included a link to my online store, where they could download the free ebook. After reading the Spam Act, it says the first email can't include a link to any commercial site. So on my second mailing, I am going to include a link to my squeeze page-optin, optout page. This page will then have my link to my Online Digital Store, where they can download the free ebook through paypal download page. I invite them to browse my store before downloading, but there are no sales pages.

I will have no sales pages on my next 2 followup emails to my optins. I want to brand myself, and gain their confidence first. I will be sending a video email on my first and second followups, so they can see and hear me. I will also include some free helpful information in each one.

By the way, my first email contains optout links in the second paragraph, and at the end of the email. Of course there will be optout links on all of my emails and squeeze pages.

Paul, what do you think? I would appreciate your feedback. I welcome all the help I can get from all you other warriors as well.

$20 bucks says half those emails are invalid.

I believe you can send a new double opt-in request to them, asking if they want to now receive your newsletter. Check with your list hosting provider, they will let you know what is acceptable.

80,000 emails x $250 CAN SPAM fine = $20,000,000 potential fine

I can think of better ways to spend $20m

After reading the CAN-Spam Act. I have come to this conclusion. The only thing you can do is send that list ONE Email. That email must not contain any link to any Commercial website. You can offer them a free ebook,or downloadable digital product and send them to a squeeze page, so they can optin to your future emails. Your followup letter to your optins would then give them a link to your website, and how to get their free downloadable product. I would then send them an additional 2-3 emails, that give them other free content. I would not try to sell them anything, until I have established myself as competent and trustworthy in their eyes.

I don't know what to expect from the 80,000 leads I purchased from AdBlastThe World. At least I am giving it a try, but only as I described it above. One time only, and no Commercial links. If I get a few optins from it, that will be OK. If I don't get any, then I have only paid $100 for my education.

One final note: I am using FireReply Autoresonder to broadcast these emails, ONE TIME. I am sending no emails from my IP address. I am sensitive to SPAM, so I will delete all those names that don't optin after the one mailing.

Yes, I am using other means to build a list from scratch. I have started a Blog and using other Social Networking. I am using SEO techniques as well. I have a Squidoo Lens up and running, and I have a YouTube video, which is the top listing in my Niche.

I will let the forum know what happens with my test of my 80,000 names. Thanks to all of you for your posts, and I would appreciate any replies from other Warriors.

All advice on what I could do with this list of emails would be appreciated, thanks.
Unless you know how these 80000 email address are obtained, you can't really
put them into good use.

Internet Marketers collect email addresses for a simple reason, to follow up with their prospects based on their interest, so we are talking a target audience here.

Without knowing the real people behind these 80000 email addresses,
it's as good as trash...

Can some one please tell me the most effective way to build a list. I am not after the fastest or easiest, but the most effective way. I have a opt-in box on my blog but I dont seem to be getting anybody to join. Any advice would be very useful.

Thanks

HI Everyone...
Well all those replies seem to agree. Throw out the junk.
BUT... I have a similar problem. I have some bona fide leads. I belong
to a grow your list membership site. And I get several double opt-ed leads
every few days.
I'm trying ti figure out a way to get them into my Aweber account, so I can
get them to opt-into my list.
I tried the auto responder suggested by the site. But they send a confirm
letter out first, that doesn't say who or why anyone is asking for the confirmation.

DUH... like how many people are going to say yes to that. I'm not trying to spam,
or do anything underhanded, these are good targeted leads from people who want to hear about IM products.

Does anyone have any suggestions for me. (other than throwing them away). My thought was to find a cheap responder some where and use them to send out the first letters with an offer that takes them to my account in Aweber.

Any suggestions? Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Daylynne
