I sell a book about a particular subject Let's for example say that The subject is skydiving. My book is aimed at those who are already skydiving and those that would like to skydive. There are only 3 other books about the subject. But for the term "skydiving" there are thousands of people competing for the "skydiving" key word/s. Busnesses, drop zones and kit suppliers etc

I already have a domain named after my book, skydivershandbook.com

Recently a competitor who has a book bought the domain Skydivebook.com and pointed it to his web pages. So searches for "Skydive Book" brings his site up before mine. Available to register at present are Skydive-books.com Skydive-book.com Skidivebookreviews.com etc

Should I buy these domains, get a little content on them and point them toward My site, or would I be better just continuing to add links and promote the one site skydivershandbook.com

Thanks

    I agree with dave147.

If your competitor only has a forwarded domain name, then the SEO power of that isn't all that great. You've got some decent keyword power in your own domain name, so I would recommend creating a new page on your site targeted at his keyword. Make sure you put that keyword in the title of the page, the meta keyword tags and description, and link to that page from others on your site using the keyword. Get a few offsite links back to it using that keyword as the anchor text and I'll be surprised if you don't outrank that guy soon enough.

Google likes the domain name, but if he doesn't have content on there, you should be able to out-do him without too much effort. Buying yourself more domain names only opens you up to the same being done on you.

It is better to promote the one site.

I will suggest to beat your competion you target for long tail keywords. Google call this Redflag in the organic listing.

For example the keyword. "sky diving" you can test and you will see not much people going to search for it and if you rank well for it there will not come much sales.

But google look for this " ..... sky diving" so search and see what long tail keywords can you use.

    How to sky diving
    Newyork sky diving
    Benefits of sky diving

    Hope you understand all.

All the best with you product.

I suggest that you buy those domains, put a review of your ebook there.
If you have Xrumer then do 1 Xrumer blast to each site with your main keyword in it like "skydive book" or whatever is getting many searches. Now one blast can get you anywhere around 1000-1500 links so that one hell of in-links. Google indexes these links slowly so getting sandboxed it like 2% chance. Even if one domain does get sandboxed it'll get back on google within 1-2 months. Its going to rank better and get you more traffic

If sky dive books has alot of searches I'd buy the domains. What are you out 30 bucks?

Use a couple to test different squeeze pages and one to setup a WP review site.

I suggest you buy Skydive-book.com. For your existing domain skydivershandbook.com, the word "hand" give you less value to the SEO since I seldom see SE index / bolding the word from "skydivers" jump over the word "hand" and bold the word "book".
Anyway, try to write the content with your own words (natural) and quality, and add more content than your competitor. Hope help. Just my opinion.
