Is my business model outdated?

I have a website where I make free software to help people in internet marketing and just generally help people growth their online business.

I've had several people tell me that my business model is "outdated". More specifically my delivery method. As my software is all written in c# and desktop based requiring download. This is primarily due to things like search engine scraper and expired domain finder needing non burnt ip addresses. If it was cloud based I'd need so many proxies that I wouldn't be able to release all the software for free. I'm told that desktop software (downloads) puts users off but my subscription rate is around 35-50% most days.

What do you guys think?

People still use desktop software. The fact that there's also cloud-based software now hasn't changed that and for many types of software, it probably never will. Sounds like that person doesn't know what they're talking about. Opinions are the cheapest commodity in this business and some people like to give advice to make themselves sound like an expert when they're not. I say, as long as people are responding to your offers, ignore other people's opinions.

    No it's not outdated.

Sure web based apps offer a lot of advantages both to the user and the developer but as long as the applications you create are useful you should have no problem getting people to use them.

That's what I was thinking. Just keep making helpful stuff and people will begin to trust the website once it has a good a reputation. Thanks :-)
