Default Hiring Salespeople to Approach High Ranking Sites to be Affiliates?

I was kind of thinking of hiring some real "closers" to call up the owners high ranking sites in niches and trying to get them to either a.) post banners or b.) join my affiliate program.

In return, I'd give the salesperson a cut of the profits,

Does anyone do this?

If so -- what are your tricks? Are there any good ebooks on this?

My best,

The Oilman

As a site owner I would much prefer to be approached by you not by some salesman. Of course if you are talking about listed companies and you need a face to face meeting then yes an "account executive" might be the best way forward. But if you are taking about email.. get an good email written for you that you can send out...probably cheaper in the long run

It's a novel approach. Since selling is a numbers game, it will probably work. Your biggest challenge will likely be finding a sales person willing to accept your terms and wait for his earnings.

We have used that approach in the past but it dis not work for the type of business we are in. Many a times, the sites owners will not even respond to our sales agaent and the agents in turn got frustrated and quit. The better way we found out to do this is by advertising our affiliate program in affiliate directories.

I agree with M Thompson. I have been successful in contacting site owners directly. Use the contact information they give on their website. In my instance, sending out 35 emails resulted in 3 phone calls and 2 partnerships. My advice is to be unique. They receive countless emails from people asking the same thing you are. Find your edge, concentrate on how they could benefit, and make it easy for them to say yes. If you already have a successful partnership, ask for a testimonial and use it. Good luck!

People always feel better in person to person (face to Face) encounters. They get a reall good feel of what you are about and have more confidence in you. Since you do not mind getting your hands dirty and doing the groundwork yourself.
