How do you split test and what software do you need to split test?

Hey, what's up mates? I'm trying to figure out how to split test or multivariate test my landing page. Do I need some type of software to allow it to show different landing page elements? And also, how do I change the elements on my landing pages, do I have to duplicate it and swap the elements? I'm super confused can someone help me figure out how to split test, change the elements, and tell me how to get them to show different pages to see which one performs the best?

    Hey Creative Prophet!

What are you using at the moment to to run your landing pages? Most CMS will have a quick solution for AB Testing, once we know what you're on that will make life easier. Here's a few solutions you can try and see what resonates best for you as flow:

Setup a URL with a randomised redirect to two landing pages (A or B or more.. not restricted to two, but it's ideal as a place to start). Use Google Analytics to track.

Using Google Analytics Experiments, CrazyEgg has a great article by Ruben Agarte on setting up experiments:

Alternatively, omniconvert is a great solution for easy AB testing. We have an exclusive deal with them in our Tools section.

I use the Thrive Lead's content builder to split test multiple versions - and it can automatically decide the winner.

It's a good option if you're using a Wordpress site.

That's a nifty feature. Does it have a timeframe for testing then automatically redirect traffic to the winner after the testing period?

Yes, you can set the amount of time or number of page views you want to run the test for.

There's also a headline split test option that works in a similar way, so you can create 10 or 20 headlines and let it figure out which one is best.

I haven't messed around with the settings too much, I just leave it to do its thing, but you can adjust it manually.

The last time I did it I used Google's Experiments, but they're always changing stuff so I'm not sure if it's still the same.

A basic A/B split test would be, build two webpages (A and B), rotate the pages with some php code so traffic is split across both webpages. Track click through rates on your call to action (ex: email optin, buy now button, etc...).

If you can't code php then try a Wordpress plugin for rotating the webpages but you'll still need to code the HTML.

As I said above just in case you haven't seen it mate, I have a site hosted on bluehost that's PHP code so I change all the HTML & CSS (photos, headlines, content, etc) through Cpanel.

Cool! so what you need to do is pretty simple if it's just static pages.

Take existing page, treat it as your control.
Copy the page, edit the content to what you want to test, treat it as Variant A.

Set the index of the directory to a PHP or JS redirect that randomises traffic equally to the control and variant A. Track your engagement and funnel with GA / UTM's etc..

Basically I'm saying exactly what Yukon said lol
