Dilemma: own name or a descriptive name as domain name?

Hello,

I would like to make an english blog about spirituality.

When picking a domain name, there are lots of benefits for picking your own name:
- As the blog grows, your personal reputation grows as well.
- Employers / businesses let you work for them more easily because of how big your site is.
- You become an opinion leader / you get money or can enjoy free things that you promote (like attend courses for free in exchange for a blog or vlog)

However, on the other hand, when picking a name like Spirit-web.com, I Feel the benefit is that more people are likely to follow it because it is a descriptive name.

Does anybody have an insight in this dilemma?

Thank you!

No one cares about who you are as a person. People do care about your topic.

    Descriptive name all the way

Most certainly descriptive name for the Product to begin with.
Once the product grows, then you have your own name domain - site.

How do you want to build your brand?

Someone like Tony Robbins has built on his name not his product type.

Either way has pros and cons.

But think of what you want people to remember in the future. You or your product?

If you ever want to sell your business than don't build on your personal name.

If you eventually want to do public speaking and draw on your name then use your name.

I would say think about what your objectives for the blog are. Do you want to build yourself as a brand in your niche, if so then use your own name but if you want to create an online space of spirituality then I would say use a descriptive name. Good luck

Are you already someone well known in the spirituality niche either locally/regionally/internationally? I know the term 'well known' is subjective but only you can define it and answer the question. If you are well known enough, then using your own name in your blog is useful. It builds your brand. If not, then a descriptive domain name is far better. It is said that if you wish to sell your website on sites like Flippa, you should avoid domain names with hyphens. Disclaimer - I have not tested this myself so I can't say it is 100% true. Just something to know.

Domains are cheap, might as well get both.

Promote the business using the descriptive name. If you start to become know as a leader in the field, you have the personal name.
