Default Anyone Use voice recognition software for writing articles?

Anyone Use voice recognition software for writing articles? I am seeing the dollar signs and potential for this to cut my article marketing writing time way down. Anyone else use this type of software? I am looking into purchasing dragon naturally speaking. If anyone uses it is it helping you out a lot?

another question? Say your writing an article for ezinearticles, will it actually type the words in on the article submission forms? Or do you have to copy and paste it from somewhere else like microsoft word for example? How does that work?

Since we are talking about this, does anyone know how much space, and what speeds your computer needs to run on/have in order for DNS to work properly?

I speak everything into Word for the added convenience of spell and grammar check.

I run DNS 10 standard on a quad core 3ghz w 4gb ram. This is extreme overkill though. Check out the Nuance website for minimum specs...and then double them. That should give sweet performance.

Well, frankly speaking, I haven't used these type of applications for article writing as I think article writing should be done manually even if it takes more time as articles determine the kind of knowledge you have and you shouldn't rely upon such applications to prove your knowledge i.e. writing articles.

No offense, but I fail to see how the exact mechanism of writing an article versus speaking it aloud determines your knowledge of the subject matter.

Case in point: Professors at universities have knowledge about the topic they are lecturing on, no?

I use MacSpeech Dictate and works great to write articles... It is truly a time saver but it also works on making forum post, communications in yahoo IM, and many more uses...

OK, so does anyone know approximately how fast this program can work? I can type a 300-500 word article in 5 minutes, with a title.

Will it work at the same speed? Does anyone have experience using DNS, and having fast turnaround times for article completion?

I think Thomson meant that you can be more thorough when you write articles manually, whereas if you were to speak, you may encounter the following:

Thanks

Well, I type around 90+ WPM, and DNS is still faster. That being said, it is critical to take the time to train it to your voice---that will keep the errors down.

Additionally, I hope your computer at least matches the minimum specifications. Even at that point, it may lag a little. Also, having a quality microphone is also very important.

In a nutshell: it'll do just fine.

mmm I got my computer from my brother- who installed (what I believe to be) a downloaded version of windows. It looks like windows vista... but when i check it tells me it's windows xp.

1.73GHz, 2.99GB Ram, and service pack 3...?

so are those bad specifications if I want DNS to run smoothly? (all the pc's in my house are older...lol, and the other PC just seems messed up, as it is a dell..lol)

So... what does anyone think of this? I heard you need alot of space in order for it to run, so does my computer lack sufficient space?

You are going to want 1.5GB of free space on your hard drive...at least, that's how much I needed for DNS 9.

I couldn't tell you the exact minimum specs recommended by Nuance (the company who created DNS) but you should be able to find it at their website.

WoW! that's alot of space, well I can always take everything off this computer, and transfer it to my other PC's, making virtually the entire computer free for DNS to work, but MAN, maybe for the next version, they can consider making a model that doesn't require so much space, and is light..cheez.

I got DNS 10, and will be receiving it within 1-2 weeks, apparently, so I am looking forward to testing it out, and I already have the mic recommended for it, as I used to do conversational work...

but yeh, I wonder what it will be like to just dictate instead of typing, and which one will work better for me... sounds exciting!...

but i can't help but also think about other uses for this program.... such as in for blind people- if linked with another program that reads things out to computer users who have bad eyesight etc...

But I think a program like that exists, but if you melded the two together, you would make computers accessible to the blind as well... so that they don't have to type (because I think they have braile keyboards...)

My sister is almost blind, so I wonder how that would work for her...

You gotta remember, the field of technology is growing by massive leaps and bounds. 1 GB/gigabyte isn't what it once was. For example, I have a 1TB (terabyte) external hard drive, which is 1000GB. Huge, I know.

It really is a huge time saver; but I can't stress enough to do your due diligence in setting up DNS and learning to use all the features. Youtube I'm sure has some awesome stuff to check out while you wait.

Yup-they do have braille keyboards. And why not just have your sister sit down and check it out?

Unfortunately, as blind as she practically is- she relies heavily on the use of her eyes. She was taught to read braille, as was my brother (and I know some as well), but you see, if you are not fully blind... the temptation is too high to just use your eyes...

She even hates wearing her glasses, because they are so thick, and heavy... and she doesn't use her cane, because she is embarrassed and think's about what other people think.

I do often show her things, but she refuses so much... it can be frustrating at times- and then at the same time, she's asking me what I do online, and is hoping I may show her what I do, so she can earn some money... and that's hard too, especially given the above.

But I am wondering if I could use this software in the future, as my sister is moving to my city. My sissy can't spell very well, because her eyesight always put her at a disadvantage back in the day in schools (teachers were reluctant to teach her), but if this program is as accurate as it claims, then that wouldn't matter anymore, and I could possibly start her on "dictating" articles for me, and herself.
