Can you learn digital marketing for free?

I've been checking out a few of Neil Patel's videos including Learn the Best Marketing Strategies and Marketing Techniques for Free.

The video pretty much boils down:

a) Read the top marketing blogs
b) Create a dummy site to experiment with
c) Use what works on your main site

Is marketing really this simple?

How did you learn online marketing and what advice would you give to small business owners?

More or less. I taught myself, it's really simple, I'm 23 with no college education. If you can understand that it comes down to traffic and conversion then your next step is to try something.

You're at the start, you want to get to the end. My advice is enjoy the process. Learning marketing is like learning a new language, it opens up so many doors for you.

What i would do, is spend some money. Go buy some digital marketing courses, buy some books, buy some trainings, audios, videos. Go invest in it.

But remember with investing, there is risk, so there is a chance you can come back with nothing.

The best way to learn is by taking action and read how others took action. What's good about digital marketing as being digital, it's easier to access and learn from so yes, you can start learning right away.
In fact, you're at a great place to start your learning.

    The short answer is "yes".

You can learn a LOT right here on the WF.

In addition, YouTube has many, many informative videos by very knowledgeable marketers (digital marketing and offline marketing). Your local library also will have books on marketing, advertising, copywriting, etc. which they will let you borrow for free

I tried to teach myself by reading stuff on the internet for free at first...I did learn, by it was not really efficient at ALL.

I started making money when I invested in a WSO (warrior special Offer), I think it was $10 or something...Then I realized that I learned more in a few hours than in weeks of reading free stuff on the internet...

So I bought another one, then I started to make money.

The answer is yes you can, but you will have to filter through A LOT of junk, and you will lose a lot of time.

You don't need to invest in these $1000+ courses for sure, especially if you are just starting out, but you should definitely invest in a course teaching you step-by-step what to do

I would not necessarily use the term 'It's that simple' but I would say that it could be done that way.

Firstly, know what you want to achieve (whatever it is). If you don't know what you want to achieve, look at what others have and decide what's appealing to you.

You then want to take an action and apply while you learn. Some things may work for you and others may not but you're gaining experience, results and learning as you go. Along the way, you may see something that you'll be willing to pay for as it may add value to what you are creating... so you pay for it..

We do get a bit caught up with things being done for free though. Yes you can achieve results for free but don't be afraid to invest in yourself.

    Simple, but not comfortable.

All success online is simple. I create helpful content. I connect with top bloggers by promoting them and commenting on their blogs. But creating and connecting daily gets super uncomfortable at times. Also, learning marketing and blogging, and honing both marketing and blogging skills over years was tough as hell sometimes. Which is why folks tend to quit.

I never taught myself though; nobody ever does. Because we all learn from someone else

I started in 2000 and started off at $10K a month

    Self-taught

Never turned back to a 9-5 since

People can still teach themselves to build online businesses even now

You can learn anything free with enough time. But is it really worth it?

In my opinion time is the most valuable resource we have. I'd rather spend some money to save me time.

Easy or difficult is based on how good or experienced.

Marketing requires constant testing n measuring to get the right mix.

Digital marketing is more than creating helpful content. In fact, creating content is more difficult and time-consuming for some people than leveraging other people's user-generated content; those who did the later flawlessly have become either millionaires or billionaires just within a few years.

If you are new to Internet Marketing, then the answer is 'no'. That's because if you do not even know how to buy a domain name, hosting, start a website or blog, then how can you implement step 3 in Neil's video?

But if you have your own website or blog and want to stay on top of trends in IM, then yes, Neil's video gives good advice.

There are many ways to learn online marketing. Another commentator said your time is your most valuable resource. I agree. Your time is worth more than a few dollars you spend on an online marketing product. So I would rather save my time and invest some money in a product that shows me step-by-step how to make money online. If it doesn't work, ask for a refund.

The answer is "yes." Digital marketing is self learning process, so if you have a start-up or a small business you can read various blogs, watch videos on you-tube, use various free tools to start with.
But when it comes to paid marketing or ad campaigns, you cannot rely on blogs and videos. You need an expert for it to save money you invest.

Firstly, in the beginning, it's more simple to find a menthor or a guidance, a blueprint.

The concepts are always the same, the basics: the onlien entepreneur is someone who finds a solution for a problem perceived by a group of people.

You can impact in two ways:

    - In INTENSITY: you sell something to few people but the price is very high, as an example jewelry, or gold, or something the poeple is arranged to pay a lot

    - IN QUANTITY: you sell something at medium or cheap price but to a large amount of people

    - Both: as an example Iphone, it costs a lot and the impact is to high quantity of people.

Saying that, you have to choose a niche. And then build that website with opt in page and make a list.

And nurture that list with good content and promote product you trust or you build.

All the online marketing that works is around that.

I dont think dubbing from blog to blog is good: you can get mess of all of that and dont come to a solution.

Better understand the principles exposed like an example in digitalmarketer.com of Ryan Deiss, or Circle of Profit of Anik Singal, and then get deep into the blocks of the proccess.

I frequented a couple of blogs and I also purchased a couple of inexpensive courses at Warrior Plus . A few from Paul Nicholls and one really excellent one from Eric Louviere ( unfortunately I think he took it down).

Of course you can get free stuff here which is invaluable, imo.

But splurging $15 or so for a quality course is a no brainer for me.

I would add one more step.

When you come up against something very specific that you could either spend hours/days researching or spend a few bucks to learn from someone who already put in the time, spend the money.

Someone (can't remember who, but thank you) gave me the advice to have a "laboratory site" to experiment with many years ago. Great advice, especially when experimenting with the technical aspects of a site. I keep regular backups, so if I do something dumb and the site is totally FUBAR, I delete and restore and try again.
