Frustrated, in need of some advice (General Marketing)

Hello all,

I am going to be completely honest with everyone. I am new to this form I want to let everyone know that I am also new to the world of internet marketing here is part of my story. I am a new dad, we had a baby girl a little over a year ago, she is everything to me. We live in Brooklyn New York where the cost of living is insanely High and it is so hard to keep your head above water without swallowing some every now and then. I got into internet marketing to try and earn some extra cash to supplement my current income, although I have a decent job the cost of living where I am now is a bit High and I can use the extra bucks to make it comfortable for me my wife and my child. Recently I got into affiliate marketing more specifically Amazon affiliate Niche websites. i made a few websites, generated some pretty cool content, and now i am just waiting for some of my blogs to rank. i am still going to be creating more content in the meantime, but traffic is extremely slow, even though ive done my keyword research and chose some keywords that were absolutely dumb easy to rank for, it seems as if it will never happen, im not sure if its because i am not waiting long enough or what, but my first question is how long does it take bkog post to rank? i also understand that link building is essential too, but the internet is full of outdated material, when i try and look up information on link building, im getting info from loke 2013! is there a basic link building process that can be repeated for beginners such as myself? i dont want to just drive traffic to my blogs, but my affiliate webstore as well!

Now, as far as affiliate websites go, i also understand that these things take time before yoy start to see any traffic at all. i also wanted to try clickbank offers and create my own landing pages, what is the best method to use when creating a landing page? how does one optimize a landing page for SEO? should a landing page be a domain name? or can it be a subdomain of a website you already own? I have so many questions and I wish I had a mentor instead of guessing. i apologize for venting here, but it has been a frustrating path so far. if anyone has the patience to answer some of these questions, trust me, i will appreciate it for sure.. i am just in need of being pushed in the right direction, i dont havent alot of capital to work with and i need a method that has the potential to work, and yes i understand that most of the people on this board have the SAME questions, but there has to be someone that has this making money online thing down pat, and maybe can share some advice or a proven method? i havent seen a cent since trying out this venture, it would be nice to hear from the pros and just maybe i can earn a cent to keep mu dream alive.

thank you
m. cherch

    Hi Mcherch,

I feel your pain. There is so much information on web, so many different techniques, and also so much BS, that you can often get totally overwhelmed when starting out.

There are different ways of getting traffic. You're using SEO. You need to know what you're doing there, otherwise you will never get ranked properly and you wont get any real traffic. Especially in a niche where there is alot of competition.

You can also get traffic through facebook and youtube which is what I prefer. I just find it easier and you can promote offers in niches with big competion (which by the way means that those products are in demand and sell well).

I would also rather promote clickbank products than amazon products since you get a much higher comission with clickbank...up to 75%. With Amazon it's only around 5%.

You need to get some help starting out in this business Mcherch, figuring things out for yourself is not going to get you where you want to be. And by help I mean, get a good course, or some coaching.

    Hope this helps.

keywords that were absolutely dumb easy to rank
If a keyword is 'dumb easy to rank' - it's probably a keyword few people search for.

    i made a few websites,
How many is a 'few'? How long have the sites been online? Have you added backlinks and regular content? Is the traffic growing? You don't say how targeted your niches are - or what the focus of the sites is.

My advice is - slow down a bit. You've chosen Amazon and hopefully you have chosen niches that fit into the higher payout of the current Amazon commission schedule. Stick with what you are doing - it sounds as if you are looking (right now, at least) for part time income and Amazon is a good place to start and learn as you go.

There's a ton of into about backlinks on THIS forum - use the search. Same is true of landing/squeeze pages, list building, etc....lots of info but will take time to sort through it and learn the parts you need to know. Loads of "SEO" information here - use your common sense and take wild claims with a few grains of salt.

When you have questions - ask them here and make them specific so other members can give you accurate answers. Have a plan for what to do daily/weekly and stick to it.

Frustrated? Then you are on the right path my friend!

The ONLY difference between the great majority of people who pursue this industry are the people who start feeling frustrated, depressed and any other form of lows...that keep moving forward.

Most people will pack it in when they hit the part of the IM journey where you are right now.

    My advice...

Put your family first even if this means focusing on what ever your main bread and butter is right now.

I feel your pain (been there) in regards to trying to figure out how to succeed and spend more time with your young family.

But your results will obviously take some more time.

So your main job is still a provider for your family first.

This may mean that you will need to sort out your financial matters and even put your online business on the back burner for the time being.

Now in regards to your websites...I think you should focus on (1) and forget the rest.

Trying to build multiple sites will take your income goals a lot longer to achieve than just focusing on (1) thing.

    Amazon?

I personally think their commissions are just way too low for my time.

Honestly, I will never understand why people spend so much time and effort building Amazon affiliate niche sites. The commissions are so small compared to other options that produce higher commissions with the same amount of work.

I fear that a niche amazon site, with the primary source of traffic being search engine, will wear you out before you see any real results. And, there are very few, if any, buyers keywords that Amazon isn't already ranking for. Do you really want to come with Amazon for search engine traffic?

I only say that because you're not generating much traffic or revenue so it could be a good time to think about pivoting to something else, before you spend a lot of time and resources.

As far as landing pages, I set mine up to go to www.myurl.com/lp-subject. That sole purpose of the landing page is capture contact information such as an email address in exchange for something. After a person enters their email, I then send them to a thank you page which links to a one time offer. The one time offer ranges from $7-47. My goal here is to break even, or come close to breaking even with paid traffic. If you can break even, or close to it, you can essentially send paid traffic to your landing page(s) and build your list rapidly, as opposed to constantly working on your SEO.

I know you said you don't have much money to spend, but I would urge you to rethink your strategy. Find a good product that focuses on Facebook ads, meal marketing and sales funnels. If you can figure those three things out, you'll be off to the races because they can easily be adjusted for virtually any niche.

I use optimizepress to build landing pages, mainly because I hate anything that has a monthly membership fee.
