Side-Wiki Reader doesn't work!

This little utility has been posted by several warriors as a way to read Side-Wikis without having to install it:

http://digitalinspiration.com/tools/...wiki/index.php

Unfortunately, it doesn't work. Whatever url you enter it reports "no comments", even for the biggest names on the web.

Unless it's simply down for a while I think it's useless.

So does anyone know of a similar tool that actually works? I really don't want to install this offensive side-thingy but I also need to know if anyone comments on my sites!

Install it. I have. Just to get proof of how offensive the beast is.

I'm disgusted at some of the stuff that's been posted so far. I'm about to kill my business by taking on Google, after what these idiots have enabled. If I could be certain of the people who posted it, they'd have holes in places the sun was surely never meant to see....

If you get screenshots of particularly nasty stuff, please email them to me, at paul@talkbiz.com

Here is something interesting.... this is my comment I posted on google home page sidewiki suggesting that the appropriate solution which is either to make sidewiki opt in only or at the very least allow people to opt out of side wiki.

The most popular rated sidewiki comment is the one that all visitors see first...

The current top comment has only 164 positive votes.

That means that if you wanted your sidewiki comment... or mine (hint) to be the first comment that anyone sees when they view the side wiki then you just need to have the most positive votes.

A slight variation of the google bomb... now you can create and promote sidewiki bombs. Google provides a "link" option that is intended to be used to share links to or email friends about a sidewiki comment.

Of course this is one of the bad things about sidewiki...

But if anyone agrees with my suggestions on the sidewiki comment I left then vote it up... Maybe it can be pushed to the #1 sidewiki comment on the home page of google.

        David,

try using a trailing slash when entering the domain to check for, such as
        Code:
        http://www.google.com/
        Kind regards,
        Zorro

Thanks, Zorro. Your tip seems to work. Thankfully I don't have any comments... yet! I'm too small to attract many spammers but I do have underhanded competitors and it's only a matter of time before they cotton on to this.

What obscenity has Google done here!!!

I would like to thank Josh for this post and will be doing my part to push this comment into the first position. Hoping everyone else will do the same!

PS. Because my post count isn't high enough, I was forced to remove the links from the quoted text. So, please see Josh's post above.

Taking another look I see that the top position is held by the VP of Search & User Experience at Google, Theres a fairly good possibility you are never going to bump her down.

Paul I have emailed you because I am actually LOOKING for bad comments and want to monitor the ranking system of such dubious comments. Unlike you, I have NOT been able to find ANY, (even though I keep reading about people saying what you just said) so am VERY interested in what you have seen.

        Marty,

There are currently 3 comments re: the home page here. All good comments.

And yes, you need to include the trailing slash to get this tool to work.

I am still not seeing negative posts. If anyone can help out please PM me. Just send me the exact URL. I want to observe the process of voting and banning to see if the Google's system will have any success in battling SPAM.

    Paul,

You want to see truly offensive:

Google Sidewiki: Brands under attack | Blog | Econsultancy

I can't take responsibility for this link, this was in another thread. You better believe that Microsoft and Apple's $500+ an hour lawyers are doing some major talking to Google's $500+ lawyers and I imagine the tone and language while professional is probably not too friendly.

Thank you for this link. Yes, I think is a great example of an organization that THRIVES on comments like these. Now if YOU feel you need a SideWiki blocker, doesn't it make you wonder why FOX news feels they do not?

I actually don't see any SPAM messages there. These are the comments you only wish you could interject with during their live broadcasts. Very interesting though, and good site to monitor.

Come one Marty. Its a bash fest and adds nothing to those who go there to read. Thats why this will probably stick. We all want the privilege of bashing others but don't want it on our site but guess what? Far more people using the internet are without a site to worry about.

This has something to do with Google Wave. You can try and block this on your site if you wish but you are still going to have this circulating through waves - and unlike the tool bar Google Wave does stand to be very popular.

I agree it is a bash fest, but I would disagree it adds nothing for the reader, especially Democrats!
