Quick ? on how to Verify Website for Google?

4 replies
I have spent a lot of time watching videos and googling but I still cannot figure out how to verify my WordPress website for Google.

I added the html code to a page on the website and published it and that worked but when I made the page private (so the code cannot be seen) it was no longer verified

I am looking for where to put the meta tag code but am not sure where it is supposed to go ie in a certain section of the editor?

Would appreciate help. Thanks!

    Add the meta they gave you between the <head> and </head> in your theme header.php

    Do you mean header-img.php which is the the header design of the theme I am currently using?

    If so
    I do not see a </head> and <head> in my theme.

    So I added one like below and it still does not work...

    </head> <meta name="verify-v1" content="zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzI=" /><head><?php

    I also do not see any of this that was given in Google example....
    <title> My title </title>
    </head>
    <body> page contents
    </body> </html>

    I got it ..thanks! Does this mean each time you put in a new theme you would have to reverify your site?

    Thanks!

      You can also opt to verify it with an html file - take the code Google gives you, open Notepad, save the blank file as theGooglecode.html then upload it to your server.
