Do people use the internet less in the summer?

For 2015 and 2016 July was my worst month for traffic and sales. And it's looking like the same again for 2017. (Applies to various different niches so not niche related)

Does anybody have any stats on this? I mean I guess it makes sense with people going on holiday/vacation.

Not in Phoenix! It's the reverse here though, we spend more time in doors during the summer.

I don't have any stats to validate my thoughts on this . . . but I believe that people buy less online in summer. It's not that they don't use the Internet as much as other times of year.

Often consumers are hit with new fashions, new cars, updated gadgets, etc, in the fall. Then of course, there is buying for "back to school", Halloween, Thanksgiving, and the Christmas holiday. So it would seem logical to me that the "summer doldrums" would see a marked increase in spending when fall arrives. Just my opinion . . .

According to some industry research I've had access to (sorry, no link, strong NDA), July tends to see less Internet use along with less TV viewing overall.

People are going on vacation, spending time outside, and just in general consuming less media.

I think the last 3rd of the Summer it really starts to take off, though. People equate September to Fall but it's more of the Summer.

Come mid August I am back full force. Heck, they were talking about back to school 3.5 weeks ago right after the 4th down here in South Texas

I've been promoting affiliate / CPA offers for over 16 years. Mainly PPL (pay per lead...lead generation) offers.

It is pretty common to see a dip in the summer. Once kids start going back to school is when it starts to come back.

Internet is used maximum now a days, doesn't matter which season it is.
People need digital detox to get a stable mindset.

It's tough to say if Internet use in general goes down, and any stats will unfortunately likely be masked by the rise in Internet/mobile use in general.

Is there a particular niche that you're trying to drive traffic from, and is it super seasonal? It would make sense that certain types of traffic goes down, because there is a proven seasonality for many categories of products and information.

But there are things that are very much "in-season" during the summer, ESPECIALLY with so many people going on holiday/vacation.

I'd expect big spikes in certain types of traffic... for example, "travel" which includes vacation destinations and points of interest, tourism, hotels, cruises, car rentals, daycare for kids and pets, etc.

Perhaps also "outdoors" which includes certain summertime sporting activities, kids summer camps, outdoor camping, sunscreen and bug spray topics, etc.

If you have the time/resources/interest and you really want to combat the July slump, it could be good to start a side project focused on a summertime niche!

It's defiantly logical that most are using the internet less in the summer. There are so many variations like vacations, festivals, the list is endless... We 're not as plugged in when we have such surroundings and environments.
