Hi all,

I posted a new thread about 30 minutes ago, but it was moved straight away to the 'social media' section, when the premise behind it was about the actual business model.

I am looking to start a YouTube channel, but I'm trying to get my head around figures so that I can ascertain if the idea is viable or not.

From my recent research, one can make around $4 - $7 per 1,000 views. Has anyone had any experience in this? I realise these figure will depend on the niche (mine will have a target audience of young children), but is this realistic? Also, how have you built up your views and subscribers? My idea is to solely use YouTube, with the support of Facebook to drive traffic.

I've been watching a number of similar videos to get an idea of lighting, editing etc and can see a trend in how they attract their audience, but there are no stats to show demographics and how many watched ads etc.

Any help on this will be invaluable to me.

Many thanks.

Socialblade may help you with this. It gives estimates on how much people are making. It very much depends on what kind of ads are being placed on your channel.

As you'll see it will say between $700 to $13k per month on some channels. Not that helpful right?....But if you search around enough on there, you should get a better idea of CPM's

Thank you! This is really useful.

I've always been used to researching for a loooong time before taking the plunge. However, with YouTube, I find it difficult to decide what works and what doesn't.

Just to let you know not wise to re-post another thread once it has been moved
the mods know what they are doing so I would suggest you asked them to delete this one as so you don't get off to a bad start with them!

    If your target audience is really young children . . . I gotta ask . . .

How many of them have credit cards? How are they going to pay you? Are you hoping to sell advertising or affiliate products?

If you want to monetize your channel, I'd suggest you rethink this and target the parents of young children. There is quite a difference.

Actually you can do your own advertising inside each of your own video. Children niche is very lucrative and evergreen. But you must lead them to make their parents buy what you offer for them. Provide downloadable file that can be checked by their parents would be a great help.
