Customizing Wordpress

I was wondering if you all could recommend me a good resource for customizing the look of Wordpress, so it doesn't look like a blog. I've done a bit on my site erikheyl.com but I'm sure there's more I can do. One solution is Artisteer, and I will be picking that up after playing with the demo as it is truly useful. But, being a geek I still like to get my hands dirty with code/graphics. And a good reference is always welcome.

Thanks gang!

There is a great WSO by Rosetrees, just the right solution for your needs. A real good tutorial.

I use Artisteer 2 which is excellent! Artisteer is a wordpress theme generator but also can generate templates for other CMS platforms. I've had it for around 9 months now and it is one of the best pioeces of software that I have purchased. Powerful yet easy to use and I have yet to find a bug.

My free dateless themes (in my sig and in use on my Templates site if you want to see an example) are pretty stripped down to the bare bones themes. Maybe they can give you some ideas.

I took a look at your themes and I really like your boring theme!
I know exactly what I'm going to do with it.

      Thanks very much!

Hey cypher - at the extreme risk of self promotion (is this OK, even it is useful??) my sig contains a WP tool that might be of interest to you if you are doing development on WP.

PM me and I can arrange a discount

    Hi,

A really neat tool if you use Firefox, is https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1843

You can make all sorts of edits on your webage. Flippa Chick gives great instructions here - Handy Trick for Customizing Wordpress Themes: Mozilla's Firebug Plugin | Flippa Chick

Also, XHeader is a great tool for making customizable headers.

Artisteer is also good which I use for some of my niches and sites I flip.

    Hope that helps.
