Which Sales Process / Funnel is Working Best for YOU?

I'd like to know what's working for you guys.

Funnel / Process A or B

A:
  1. Get the site visit.
  2. Offer the free gift.
  3. Get the e-mail address.
  4. Make a follow up offer (ask for money).

Or...

B:
  1. Post great and free content without asking for the e-mail.
  2. Ask for the site or page visit in the content. Ex; "hop over to XYZ page or XYZ site because I'm going to help you accomplish 1,2,3 goals."
  3. Prep for the sale upon site / page visit; "Sign to get notified when ABC product (re) launches to help you achieve 1,2,3 goals in limited quantities. Don't miss out!"
  4. Make the sale.

FOR ME, B is the hands down, upside down, sideways, and roundabout winner. I get fewer opt-ins vs. A on average but my opt-in conversion rate is nuts, and 11% of my opt-ins pay me a few hundred bucks. I've tried A, AFTER trying B, and I am in the process of switching back to process / funnel B...

Anyway, what's working for you guys? Is it time for the wise men who imparted this conventional wisdom upon us to begin thinking differently about things?

I ask if it's time to think (MOST IMPORTANTLY TEST DIFFERENT) because the the folks who bought products online in 2007 (10 years ago) were barely exposed to social media. Facebook was new, there was no IG, Twitter wasn't quite born, etc.

The way people consume content has drastically changed in the last 10 years...

Or, is my experience entirely subjective to my target audience and / or offer? What have you guys experienced?

I can never understand these one or the other questions. I do both. and why not, they both work. My sites have the "great" content and use different methods to convert the visitor into a follower. As well for paid ads I send them to a squeeze page to get their info and add to a list.

    Do both

I'm just prone to be inquisitive to promote discussion boss. Granted, there are a lot of "what should I do?" type of posts around here by those suffering from paralysis (not able to take action). So, perhaps you were viewing it through that lens?

Both approaches definitely work. Just sharing the fact that the second option has worked BEST for me and was curious to know others experiences.

That said, I've learned personally that when something is working do a lot more of it (optimize to drive down costs, and invest in more traffic). So from a pure fiscal sense FOR ME it makes the most sense to squeeze every bit of value out of the second approach before investing the time necessary to make the first approach work as well for me as it may be working for you...

But again... just promoting discussion boss. Didn't mean to annoy you.

I have to agree with Al on this. I use both as well as other ways to capture leads and make sales. Don't limit yourself. Of course by any means you would want to be doing split-testing anyway.

The free gift stuff leads to too many bad leads resulting in lower sales and tons of unsubs when I do ask for money. The second option where the "free gift" is the content has been working great for me.

However, I will be testing Free Content + Ask for Sale Right Now very very soon.

I have done both and A works much better.

While B will likely get higher quality subscribers (at the moment), you are IMO leaving too much on the table.

You get the email and you can follow-up until the user unsubscribes or becomes completely unresponsive(stops opening messages).

Users you collect with B will likely still be collected with A. However, you will likely lose many doing B that you would have collected with A.

What you call bad leads are still prospects. Maybe you get a lower number of sale (short-term) as a percentage of the total opt-ins collected. However, the more prospects in your pipeline, the higher number of sales you can potentially make long-term.

I have never in my life seen a ton of unsubscribes because you try and make a sale.

    Anyway, my 2 cents.

    I do both

A for paid and self marketing, so I can contact them over and over again. Just make sure to provide something useful before asking anything.

B for seo marketing, content is very important to get site ranked.

  • I think you're going about it all wrong. You should offer something free then give them lots of free great stuff via email then hit them up for a sale with a link at the top of some other great content you can give them. Make what are you selling like an ad. Or you can offer a free webinar then hit them up for a sale. What are you trying to sell anyway? Can I see it?

With all due respect - I am not TRYING to sell anything. Either you sell, or you don't.

This was not a "PLEASE HELP ME" thread... I understand there are many noobs who ned the help, but I just wanted to start a convo. That's all.

I've been selling here, other markets, etc. without a problem. My post history should speak for itself.

This thread was posted to provoke discussion. I am curious.

Again, I am NOT trying to sell anything.

I create content. I build list. I sell my own $200-$300 product. Every. Single. Friday... Using "Formula B."

I am really bad at "Formula A." I don't make much money using that.

However, "Formula B" works GREAT for me.

BUT... Now it's time for me to get my "big boy pants on" and really focus on making "Formula A" work for me as well...

I'm ADDICTED to "Formula B" because I can CHARGE and get more for my stuff... But, again, I need to really focus on "Formula A" with more dedication very soon.

If I can figure BOTH out... man... that would be GREAT!
