Hi, I haven't really figured out twitter, I like it but don't use it a lot so I was a bit surprised to get an email today saying "Gov. Schwarzenegger is now following your tweets on Twitter." I wasn't following him so have no idea how that happened. Now if only I could get him to retweet my blog to his million odd followers..... ![]() Manda |

If you want to get traffic from twitter, the easiest way to go about it is to make a nice profile with your face as your avatar, follow a few hundred people a day, then once you are following 2000 people, unfollow everyone not following you back using a tool like FriendOrFollow.com - Who's not following you back? Who aren't you following? , then follow more people and keep doing this cycle of following then unfollowing those people who don't follow you back weekly (but don't do it too aggressively). Then, make tweets with links, and a certain percent of your followers will click them. |

If you didn't follow him and he followed you, there is a chance it's another fake profile like many others. If you search for example for a marketing guru on twitter, you'll end up with many fake profiles using the persons name to gain popularity. It's lame. |

HarrisonJ - thanks for the advice. I really do need to use twitter more. I can see if being valuable if used properly. Chris - yeah I thought it was fake at first too but checked the profile and he's got about 600 tweets on politics, 1,200,000 odd followers and a link to the California government website so it probably is his office. |

You can go to twitter/wefollow and at their site you will see categories (niches). Look through your niche and follow those folks and the idea is that they follow you back. Now you are actually building a following of people in your niche. Go check out some of their sites and do a little socializing. Tweet what you like about their site. ask them questions. Create a dialog. Network. The result is that these folks will visit your site and they are very receptive and respond to your tweets when you ask folks to go check something out at your site. I have had a lot of success with very little followers but more importantly, you are getting to know the folks in that niche much faster than many other ways. One of the problems that some IM people here have with marketing in other niches is that they don't know anything about those niches other than what they read about at EzineArticles. Once you see how your niche communicates with each other you then learn how to communicate with them and naturally get a much better response. You can learn more about your niche through Twitter than you can with an email list. The email list is pretty much one sided but reading tweets can be worth a small fortune. Matt |

I only get about 25 hits to my site a day this way but it's more than I got when I was just following random people and tweeting links to my sites all day long. | |

There are many fake profiles on twitter - like @steveballmer, monica lewinsky etc. Probably its just one of them or a word play. Did you see the userid carefully and see where the link in their profile page goes to?
