Month 1: $3117 - What I did in my first month of IM to make $3117

Hi Warriors,

Having been in the IM game for a few months now and earning enough from it to have been able to quit my job I wanted to share something back with the community that helped me through it, and how I made it possible to quit my old job and now work for myself!

Came across the Warrior Forum a few months back (only just signed up to start getting involved!) and have been reading through a tonne of writings from everyone on here since then. After a week or so of reading through articles I came across I got some base ideas of ways to make money from sitting at the computer at home! So being bored senseless at my job (now old job!) waiting tables I would get home and start working on the computer.

My weekdays would consist of getting up at 8, getting to work from 8:30am - 6pm, getting home at half 6, eating & showering then working from 7pm-11:30pm. I promised myself that if I started making more than $1850 a month (which was what I was making at my old job) I would quit and start working full time for myself from home.

The first 3 weeks I didn't earn a cent from anything online, that was working weekends on it too, and when I worked it out it was over 100 hours of work for nothing in return! Was pretty exhausting and hardly rewarding as I was working my ass off to make it work for me. But nothing for 3 weeks straight!

Came home on the Thursday in the 4th week and won't forget this as it had been an extra cr*p day at work! Came home and had made over $60!!!

I know it isn't anything substantial but that's almost as much as I'd earnt that day so had basically earned double what I normally would in a day so was really on a high.

The next day came home and had made $33, nothing huge but was better than nothing. From that Friday onwards things only got better, and for the next 30 days I added the total earnings up to equal $3117!

So how did I do it?

I'd read a lot on article marketing, and also a lot on web 2.0 based marketing. I set myself a goal once I got started of writing 5 articles a day because that would be 150 articles a month. 5 a day didn't seem too strenuous and 150 a month seemed like a lot so began writing. I would go to Clickbank, find a product in a niche to target, and instead of writing articles on that niche I was writing almost review pages like 'How I got over anxiety & panic attacks' as the title.

I got to writing 5 a day on each different niche, and after 3 weeks and 3 days before I had made a cent I had 128 pages up (I had written a couple more than 5 on the odd day) on all different sites such as:

articlesbase.com
ezinearticles.com
squidoo.com
hubpages.com
goarticles.com

There are many more but basically article sites and social marketing web 2.0 sites. So would submit them when done and on that day I had 128 unique pages in different niches of my on content up with my own hoplinks in.

Since that Thursday where I made $60, I had days where I would even make over $100, $200, and two days where I made $300!!! I also had days where I only made $30 or so, and some where I made no sales, but after calculating up after the first 30 days of money making happening, I had made $3117 pure profit, and that same day I handed my weeks notice in and quit my job a week later!!!

I'm still going strong and still making more than I was at my old job Can't explain how much happier I am now, have more time to spend with the girlfriend, more time to go for a run or down the gym, I'm eating more healthily now, and I'm earning more than I was at my old job doing something I actually enjoy!!!

Will be looking into a new way to make money online soon as I would like to expand my income streams, but want to say A HUGE THANKYOU to all my fellow Warriors!!!! because without the help of all of your shared knowledge it would have been so difficult to go alone, if achievable at all!

Wanted to post this as a thankyou and to give something back to everyone here at the WF as I can't explain how much happier you've all helped make my life

Paul

You keep on learning & you will grow. It is true that some
get more lucky at some points than others. Who cares? Just compare yourself
to your past results. It took me a good three years online before I learned anything.
And when I did, it was like a fluke. Like some magic recipe just waiting to be cooked and savored by its creator. When success comes, the feeling is even sweeter because you know that you have deserved it. Hell, I've dedicated many hours, days, weeks, even months to IM because I believe it is the right thing for me. Its actually a passion.
I dont know about everyone else here, but I hate working the traditional job.
Can't stand it, never have, never will. The thing with IM is, there is room for anyone.
Its like the market is a grand genie, holding a mirror, reflecting our desires.
It helps us understand who we are, and for this reason I have big love and respect to everyone who stays in this game. Progress, is a process. Which leads to the path of the fulfillment of you goals. I read a quote the other day about destiny: destiny comes to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams.
You have to believe in yourself. Its quite literally up to you. You might go through product after product, but if you get just one good idea out of each.
You will begin to build a grand design that will formulate itself into larger picture.
Which will then tell you what to do next.

Listen to this voice, and listen wisely. Then make haste!
You must not waste what valuable time you may have.

We shall fight the good fight with all that we have,
as if it where to be our last actions on this earth.

    Cheers.

Thanks for both of your inspiring responses

      Couldn't agree more with both.

Stick with it long enough and eventually something will hit. It's like the law of increasing averages, try something enough times and eventually you'll make it work!!

Hey there Grace! I did link to my other pages in the same niche within each article so had some linking structure going on between all the articles in the same niche, but didn't make a huge conscious effort to do so. I had my mind more set on just getting the articles out there. But I guess the linking between articles couldn't of hurt!

      Glad to help

  • I think the great lesson from your story is that you worked hard by writing those articles. You were not looking for some no effort, loads of cash opportunity. There are so many people who believe that the streets of the Internet are paved with gold.
They may be, but only for those who are prepared to work and dig up the gold but not for those who expect the gold to jump straight into their pockets.
Well done, you deserve your success

    Hey Paul

That is fantastic mate, I really should of stepped my article writing up a while ago.

Had a few sales. but I really could not understand why some of my articles could get several hundreds of views and some would get less than 30.

So that always kinda put me off a little especially when I did not get any sales from the article that received a lot of views.

    Well done though Paul

You really look pumped up, even your signature shows how proud you are of this achievement. Make it a point to work harder from this point on, don't let this get into your head and work for $10000 now. Upscale, Outsource and Expand. You seriously can make more than this. You can PM me if you need help.

I have just started a thread that is aimed at helping people make money with clickbank. Please ask any questions that you may have there. That way it will benefit the whole community and not just 2 or three persons. Thanks and God Bless

Your question is way too general. Instead of hijaking this thread why don't you start a new thread with a lot more details such as what your websites are, how you are promoting them, etc. otherwise you're not going to get any serious responses.

    Congratulation Paul

can you develop a little more about what you did, in fact the way you submit articles make a huge difference

    so here are some questions:

Q1:when you submitted articles to ezinearticles do you put one link pointing to the affiliate or a blog where you review the product?

Q2:How many links did you posted in your resource box?

Q3: was you resource box a pure Call to action + link style??

Q4: Do you have put in place a tracking way to know where your sales come from?
(i can provide you a free tracking solution service to increase your ROI, just PM me)

Q5: You mentioned a review style, is you articles written in a review style, or an article promoting a review blog?

the main reason to your success is you fixed a goal from the beginning, and you follow a proven path

Keep up with the great work

    Well done!

If I may... so you chose a method and STUCK to it? You didn't chop & change every thirty seconds.

Now I know this is a huge stumbling point for a great number of new IM'ers. Every time a newbie asks me how to get started or what's the secret - I always say to choose a method or system and STICK TO IT! Dont do anything else. Dont read your emails. Dont buy any products/systems/software etc.

Sorry to hijack your thread here - but just wanted to point this out for the new IM'ers cause I feel it's really an important point.

Back to you Paul - way to go you! It's so exciting making your first sale - and the amount is completely irrelevant - it's the thrill of discovering that "yes this works" and "yes I can make it work".

Now you can look to outsource the article writing for that niche and move on to discover the next niche. Rinse and repeat. You've found a system that works - do it again, and again and again ....

I still don't get how that doubles your income- when you have to spend money ...just to get the articles...LOL!

Then not ALL of those articles will do well, or make the same amount of money- I have yet to experience this kind of thing you are talking about when it comes to outsourcing.

Each article made $20 in the first month on average. I would have to say that these results aren't typical. Many article writers might see $5-$10 - maybe even less, per article. Whatever you are doing, it is giving you above average results - at least that has been my experience. Congratulations and keep it up.

well i wonder what niches he is in, and how he markets them- but I have done over 100 per day- and have not seen the same results.

I have also tried outsourcing before- and got worse results than when i wrote them myself. that is why i still cannot see it that way.

PWard, I am in a similar scenario, only I have yet to submit my articles to other article directories- but it's my only source of income as well. It's fantastic to see you are earning above the minimum wage now- especially in your FIRST month alone- quite exciting!

I hope you will be able to increase this then, in the coming months- I could see you getting to $10,000+ per month easily then- but with a little hard work and persistence in between.

Best of luck to you, and keep it up!

    Hey Paul,

    Great job!

One thing you need to know about clickbank and you can search this on this forum for more information, but clickbank will start shaving sales, so you may see a decline is conventions after a little bit, when that happens, just open another account and try to keep them separate and your sales will jump back up again and everything will be fine, You wont get in trouble for doing that with clickbank anyways.

I had a lot of success with make money online right off the bat aswell... One of the things you need to remember is to always keep learning and growing and being taught.

    Thanks

Interestingly, if you can consistently get that kind of income for 150 new articles, you should be able to outsource this at a profit.

Quality articles are $15 from what I've seen. You need quality. Crap is not worth buying. Anyway, your 150 articles if they even cost you $15 each, would be $2250 per month. With the strategy you are using it sounds like you should buy some good WSO on article marketing, and write short 300-word articles, or outsource those.

Thanks for the inspiring post. I am mentoring a newbie who will be thrilled to see evidence that it is still possible to earn such an income using articles. Having been one who recently lost his job, he needs this kind of real life testimony.

Keep doing what you are doing.

Paul, just replace your landing page by an optin page, create an autoresponder and find
tons of products to promote by email

build around a niche and create a short report that people get from the optin,
the report is nothing else than 10 quality articles or the 10FAQs in your niches

This will increase the value per visitors instantly, you still can promote the offers that converted in the first place, but now you collect the emails and can upsell your customers list

              great story

            Hi Paul,

you can login in your cpanel and from the awstats have a rough idea of how much traffic come from google and articles directories,
it is priceless as you may be surprised that some will give you more traffic

like the 80/20 rules, you can leverage this information and submit more to the website that deliver results in the first place, you can increase your visitors by articles just by doing that

if you want an advanced easy to use tracking, just pm me and i will provide you with a free exclusive access to my own tracking, or recommend you a tool that do a great job. This will tell you exactly where your visitors came from and what they typed to reach your website.

don't underestimate the power of this little task, I was able to increase by 150% the traffic of some of my websites just by doing that

            Keep up the good work

Yeah usually you have your article link to some type of landing page, which then has your hoplink in it.

Everyone says it's best to have your own domain, but if you want to start out for free you can set up a page with one of the various web 2.0 sites out there, like blogger, hubpages, or squidoo.

          Good luck!

just my 2 cents... but have you outsourced your article marketing campaign?

then whilst someone is working on your article marketing campaign and building it to an even bigger and better empire... you may start with a new technique/tactic/system that you can master and then outsource... etc

Yes. Stick with what's working for you and ramp it up.

If you feel that you really need a new "method" to keep you motivated, learn outsourcing and use that to ramp up what you're doing.

Absolutely. The scary thing is...with a little experience you can write 5 articles in maybe 90 mins. All you need is a domain/hosting which is change ($8 for a domain, a couple bucks for hosting)..and you're set. Its *scarily* simple.

5 Articles a day? Thats really good. I can barely write 3 articles a day. You've inspired me!

That's so awesome! I've been doing affiliate marketing for a little over 2 years and it wasn't until this year that I began decent money. I told myself, when I reach a certain amount months, I would quit my day job. I made it to that goal, but never quit my job.

Now I'm getting laid off in January and I can't tell you how excited I am about it. People don't understand. Employees tell me how tough it is out there and pretty much tell me to worry. I think it actually upsets them that I'm smiling and glowing with positive vibes...

Paul, I am a beginner at all of this. Could you answer some questions for me? I have been busy writing SEO articles for an online article business. They pay consistently 5.00 an article and the money adds up when I am paid additionally to post the articles on various sites....whicj I actually find that I enjoy. But, that money is limited...can you tell me how you get paid? You write article and post them...where does the pay come into the picture? Where can I learn all the details?
I am currently starting my own site but dont get where the money comes from and how to get paid.

    Hi Paul
    Congrats on your splendid success.
Article marketing is one of the best free methods to generate targeted traffic.I have also been using it since I started as an affiliate marketer.
Now your aim should be to create your own product. Why not create a step by step report on article marketing. You'll find many buyers for sure as you are now an expert in this field.
Having your own product and getting some affiliates to promote it,would provide you with a great amount of residual income without any further effort on your part.
You have already crossed the $100/day mark why not aim for $1000/day now.

I gotta ask you a question.

When you are writing these articles, are you submitting the same article that you write to each site? Or is it one unique article per site? I am very confused. I have been writing articles but posting the same one to 5 or 6 article directories at the same time. I am headed down the wrong road?

Thanks in advance for your response and keep trucking... this post really helped me.

    Hi Paul

i just realized how foolish I have been after reading your post, the first $ i made online came from one article that generated anything from 3 to 10 sales a month. If only i had done 100 times more I would have reached your success

    big lesson in your testimonial:
First: Fix a clear target that can bring results, like you did Paul 5 Articles/day
Second: keep doing the commitement first before anything else
Third: find a way to expand and improve the process, best products to promote, best way to write the article, best articles directories to submit, etc...

I really had my head boiling after reading your posts, and just took action based on this information today

    keep up the great work

    This is a great post.

First, congratulations on your success and saying goodbye to
your boss. You worked hard and you deserved it .

Second, this is a perfect example that proves that if you set
a goal, and take daily action to complete your goals, you will
    be successful.

Most people don't action or don't take the right action just
because they don't take the time to set some goals for themselves.

I hope many others will read this and take the lesson you have
given to heart and apply it to their own businesses.

He would be a fool to share his written articles since they are targeted to the product that is earning him money. All he needs are a bunch of jerks to move in on his targeted keywords and niche. Yes, there are plenty of sharks in the IM world that will do just that.

      Hi PWard

Great thread you have started here and very inspiring too.

I think too that adsense may be a way forward or even site flipping, some of your sites that are selling (proof of income), unless you send people from your articles directly to affiliate sites, will have value. You could built that up over time, let's say the sites that are selling but not as much as others, you flip (al;so known as flopping) for a profit. Over time you will be flipping every month more and more sites.

Just a thought, would fit your article strategy well, but also the adsense sites like Edwin mentioned.

      Yours sincerely
      Angelina

People! People! You're analyzing this to death! Some of you thing the magic is in the details: "Did you put the frammis in the whozzis then double-backflip the whatchyamacallit to the gizzmo?"

What he did was very simple:

    1) He chose a business model: Affiliate Marketing

    2) He made a plan utilising the resources he had; i.e., no money; no website, hosting or autoresponder; just time and commitment. His plan was to post 5 review type articles a day, with his CB hoplink, in various niches using free resources.

    3) He executed his plan. He WORKED at it consistently.

That's it. Everything else is just details and tweaking. Take those three steps, work at least as hard as he did and you will have a very Merry Christmas.

Good job, PWARD and welcome to the ranks of the 5% who actually get it and make money at it.

Thanks for your post, it has given me inspiration to get my act together!

I am fairly new to IM and have had a slow start. I do run a website and have written and submitted plenty of articles to attract traffic to my site, with some success. I have tried using squidoo and twitter for marketing purposes but I have much to learn.

I know my problem is not with commitment or effort, it is with choosing one method of marketing and then sticking to it, I need to find my true IM calling! You have given me the determination to continue with my writing and especially article submission. I love writing and research and can write on practically any subject so should probably concentrate on article marketing.

    Just one question....

Ezine Articles do not allow affiliate links, did you therefore link to another site of yours when you submitted articles to them?

Thanks for showing me that with proper commitment article marketing can, and does, work.

Correct. Ezinearticles.com does not allow affiliate links in the resource box of your articles, but you can purchase your own domain name and have the domain forward to your affiliate link if you'd like, or you can send your traffic to a free site like Blogger.com and have your affiliate link there.

Just be sure to review their terms of service - EzineArticles.com Terms of Service for Authors - before you submit your articles.

Congratulations. I wish I had started article writing a long time ago. Now I am just doing one-way links and writing my own optin funnel system. Before Google changed everything in 2008 I had been concentrating on link exchanges when they were useful. There are a few other systems that I am beginning to use that may speed up the process. I'll tell you when they are successful.
I suspect you grouped your articles into topics and then tried knocking out 5
per topic? You didn't publish them on a blog at any time?

Hey Pward my name is Charles and I am kinda of new to the im business. I had a quick question though. If you create a review site do you create subdomains for all the reviews or do the posts in the main domain?

One other thing can a post on a wordpress blog, rank for a keyword. For example: I did a post on weight loss but my domain is a review site. So would that post get one the first page on google for that keyword if I got backlinks?

Really great work and nice write up just got done reading though it. Just wanted to point out it makes sense you did not make anything for the first 3 weeks. Article marketing is about getting content out there and building links back to your business. However it takes time for search engines to find this content and index it then rank it higher and higher based on the content you provided. I do expect to see you keep increasing your earnings the longer you keep with it and your articles become indexed more and more over time.

What really got me thinking is not even how hard he worked and how consistent he did it, but the brilliant strategy is how his articles read; "how I got over this..." etc stuff. That approach is brilliant because people love to hear stories. They make them want to read to the end, and if the write-up is well done, they even get to the buying point, almost on impulse. Thank you for your post. I am really inspired.

Great story! You had the big advantage you started with something which totally worked - and basically each minute you spent (writing articles) totally paid off!

Know that many IMers might start out making nothing for months and months, and it might take VERY long to find a method which makes actually decent money!

Yes, article marketing rocks and you seem to do it right - now imagine what happens if you use like 25% of the earnings and outsource, hire a team of writers and increase article volume accordingly. You almost made twice as much as in your old job (tell me about it!) at your first try.... Excellent!!!

Edit: Keep going, consistency is key. Keep those articles (and the cash!!) rolling in!

    What an inspiring post!

I also can't help but think some of your success lies in that you did not over think or over analyse the process- you found some products you like the look of and wrote some review articles.

I think sometimes so much time is put into keyword research, building backlinks, social networking, there is no time left for the important things, like simply putting good content out there.

    Congratulations!

I remember reading this when it first started. What's interesting about this warrior is that he still has very few posts and yet he's been a member for at least 2 months. What is he doing with all his time?

    He's probably working!

Wonderful job, Paul! You have accomplished what so many wanna-be beginner IMers have failed to do, and some have been searching and trying for months, if not years. Instead of fishing around for the next best shiny object, you just got to work and did it consistently for a month! IM really isn't as hard as people make it out to be - you really just need to have the discipline to do simple, basic tasks over and over again - consistency is the name of the game here. There is absolutely no need to reinvent the wheel here.

Unfortunately, many beginners are out there in search of the next best 'pushbutton' method that will get them earning money without lifting a finger. I don't know why it is that so many beginners think that they can earn money in IM without doing anything! If there is someone I'd point a finger at, it's the Gurus that have spread this myth that somehow has persisted - you just need to watch out for the newbies in the forum here who keep asking if they can earn $100 a day with minimal work, and they have the gall to demand to earn that much without wanting to write, or create websites, or basically do anything at all!

      Very inspiring post Paul.

This proves that making money is possible if you TAKE ACTION. Many people read...read...read and never take action or they do take action, but quit after seeing no results the next day.

This is a huge WAKE UP call to everyone who thinks article marketing is easy. Paul has written 5 articles a day which isn't a easy task and he has sticked to it, even though he didn't make any money for 3 weeks, he still commited to what he was doing and saw positive results after all the hard work.

Anyway this thread has inspired me to also TAKE ACTION and I will be starting to write 2 articles daily to start with and stick to 1 product untill I've written 20 articles. I will then see if the product converts, if not I will move on to another.

I personally think the hard part will be writing articles that are all in the same niche.

I do have a few questions for Paul(Or Anyone), so feel free to answer if you can.

      1. Is it better to have a own hosted landing page and try to presell the visitor or would you just use a redirect straight to the merchant?

      2. Is it better to just focus on 1 product or focus on multiple products? If you do focus on multiple products, then this means you'll need multiple landing pages and means you would have to spend quite a bit of money on buying domain names and hosting.

      3. The real thing that counts is obviously getting traffic, I've learned it's best to try to rank your article on the first page of Google, but how do we get backlinks to our articles? Do article directories allow to link to each other's article?

      4. You said you submit articles to different directories like, ezine, articlebase, goarticles and others, but do you submit the same article to every directory or do you write unique articles and submit to these.

      5. Just a question for you Paul, have you been able to get any articles ranked on the first page of Google? If so did you do any backlinking to these articles?

Sorry for all these questions, not trying to hijack the thread, just trying to learn.

BUM Marketing Method.. and yes, i made my first sale with this method.

For other newbie warrior, just try this method and you will see your first sale come in to your bank account.

Go to clickbank and select 3 top converting product ( i suggest look for 70-100 grav product ) and write 1 article for each product each day and see which product convert well after that dump those low converting product and write 5 articles on those product.

Rise and repeat for next month... and watch your account grow!!

    Hi PWard!

Did you do some back linking or any other SEO techniques to your articles to rank them high in the SERPs? Or you just let them be in the article directories for visitors to read and be led to your sales pages such as Clickbank or Amazon?

An answer would really be appreciated.

I got a new idea from this thread. Thanks to you..

      Jonathan,

You can actually do away with the fear of risk and insecurity and leverage your writing ability. That does not stop you from offering the writing service for other people.
A lot of people in this forum started by offering service to other members and then start
using same skill to grow their business.

Thanks for the post, really helped to motivate me. Bagh, I've been in this for a couple of years now and have only made a coupla hundred pounds - but at least I now know that money CAN be made, and I just need to scale up on what has worked. I'm gona learn some copywriting and start putting some real thought into my articles - I'd rather opt for quality over quantity.

A lot of people advocate just writing as many articles as you can as fast as you can and hope that some will sell. I'd much rather take a copywriting principle, apply it with thought to an article, see if it works and use this process as a learning experience. Eventually my articles will ALL be of good quality and I'll be able to write them as quick as I can write crap ones now.

    Great story Paul.

$3k in your first month - that's what a bit of perceverance and determination can bring you.

I think many people are put off by the thought of writing articles - I get the impression many relate it to professional copywriting and are reluctant to have a go.

You've shown here that a guy with no experience can apply himself, set a realistic target, stick to a plan and achieve a goal in a very short space of time.

I hope people reading your story are inspired to give it a go. There's real money to be made out there and, as you have shown, it really can change your life.

    All the best.

Way to go Paul! I have read this thread and have been re-inspired.

When I first started IM, I was excited about bum marketing. I wrote a few crappy articles and nothing happened. That was almost one year ago.

Since that half-hearted attempt at article marketing, I have tried many other marketing methods, hoping to discover a way around it. Here is what I have found: There is no way around it.

While I have made some money, I believe I could be raking it in by now had I focused and produced like you did!

Oh, well, I can start writing now and use all that I have learned to accelerate the process. I am the guy who doesn't read the directions before I put something together.

      To further success!
