LeadPages conversion almost double subscribers on list.

by tomle 10 replies
Hi guys,

This week I started running my first list building campaign and its been going ok. I'm running Facebook Ads which is taking people to a landing page (LeadPages) and getting them to sign up to my list (MailChimp).

The only thing I'm having a problem with is that LeadPages says there has been 60 conversions but MailChimp is only showing 35 subscribers...meaning there are 25 missing (1 person did unsubscribe).

Is this a case of people not clicking opening the confirmation email and confirming subscription?

On the "Thank You" page for the landing page I advise people to check spam mail and if using Gmail to check the promotion tab (as Mailchimp advise).

If anyone else has experienced this and can offer some advice I would be extremely grateful!

Thanks Again,

Tom

Leadpages is great, though pricey. When I ran a campaign using their landing page, the signups matched in number. Used mailchimp.

There was a small lag in numbers showing up, especially clicks. Best to wait for a short while, then maybe contact them?

      Hi Toydistrict,

Thanks for your reply! Interesting that your numbers matched.

This is a break down of conversion:

LP = LeadPages MC = MailChimp

      13/8
      LC: 4
      MC: 1

      14/8
      LC: 8
      MC: 6

      15/8
      LP: 19
      MC: 11

      16/8
      LP: 18
      MC: 11

      17/8
      LP: 6
      MC: 3

      18/8 (so far today):
      LP: 5
      MC: 4

The campaign ends on Sunday so I will leave it until Wednesday and see if more leads come in.

Its quite a large difference between the two!

      Thanks,

      Tom

Most likely leadpages is accurate. 60 people may have used the for on your landing page but 25 probably didn't 'double opt in'.

I don't use mailchimp but have been using Aweber from day one.

From what I have heard...mailchimp doesn't like affiliate links.

If that's the case...why do so many new marketers keep using it?

I have my double opt in set to off so people don't have to wait for an email to click on before going into my email list.

Some marketers are offering a 'freebie' giveaway to get leads but I don't give anyone a free gift.

I do give value before hand though and then tell my visitors that they are about to enter my sales funnel up front.

Keep in mind that I am not blunt and use my words wisely.

    Anyway...

It seems like you are missing 25 subs mainly because they didn't click on the link in their email to double opt in.

If 60 different people activated your MailChimp link on LeadPages, LeadPages would count it as a conversion, whether they completed your subscription process or not.

If 20 different people activated 3 times your MailChimp link, LeadPages would count it as a conversion.

    Hi guys,

Thank so much for your input!

The main reason I chose MailChimp is the cost. I'm only beginning my IM journey and want to keep my costs low. This is partly due to the fact that I am selling a physical product and cost on small minimum orders are high. Although I understand I do need to spend in order to grow. I just want to be smart about things.

    Rory:

So with AWeber I can disable double opt-in? I don't think this is an option in MailChimp. It might be better to use Aweber if this is the case. Although AWeber has a monthly fee, losing out on sign ups is almost doubling my cost per acquisition.

The cost per lead difference looks like this:

LeadPages cost per lead = £0.43
MailChimp cost per lead = £0.83

    DABK:

You're right. I'm wondering if people are opting-in multiple times because they haven't seen the original email (because its in spam or Gmail promotions tab).

Thanks again for you input and if you have anything else to add please do!

    Thanks,

    Tom

I don't think they are opting in 3 times. Even the dumbest people will find your email (if they want it bad enough lol).

It's really hard to help you because not enough info is being said by you.

Are your leads getting some kind of free gift or a sales page right after opting in?

Or is there some kind of download that they get access to after they find your mailchimp second opt on email?

  • I think it is counting how many people get to your landing page and they are just dropping off and not signing up. Sometime autoresponders check for bad email address and don't put them in and if that is the case, some maybe signing up with wrong emails.

    Rory:

The leads are signing up to win a free (physical) product when I launch. I will be giving 5 away. People are opting in and bring sent to a landing page where they opt-in to the contest, then they get sent to a thank you page telling them to check their emails and click subscribe (and to check span/promotions tab).

There is no download on the opt-in page or in the subscription email.

    Christina:

I'm not sure if thats whats happening. Leadpages shows 139 unique views of the landing page and 73 opt-ins (as of just now) , so the page views aren't you ted as opt-ins.

    Spartan14:

    I think you're probably right.

OK. My Facebook campaign is over.

These are the results for my 5 day campaign (Leadpages/Mailchimp)

Ad clicks: 123 unique link clicks
Leadpages conversion number: 79 (£0.48 per lead)
    Mailchimp subscribers: 43 (£0.89)

This means there is potentially 36 leads lost to (what I believe to be) people not opening the opt-in email and confirming their subscription. This also increase cost per lead by £0.41 (almost double).

I'm going to use AWeber and and see if turning off double opt-in makes a difference in subscription numbers. If there is still a discrepancy at the end of next week I will know there is an issue with Leadpages.

I will also make changes to the ad based off the FB data. I want to get my CPC as low as possible.
