Any tips with regard to pricing an ad on site?

Hello everyone,

One of my websites is an employment related niche site. I was contacted yesterday by an employer interested in placing an advertisement on our homepage. They are requesting a price quote.

Assuming this will be a banner ad, does anyone have any advice to offer with regard to pricing?

Please advise.

Thanks!

There are many different ways that you can price ads on your site and there are a few factors that determine what you can charge:
    • Appeal - of your site to the person wanting to place the ad. How important is it to them to be listed on your site?
    • Traffic - How many visitors you receive can play a big part in determining what to charge.
    • Results - The main factor (that I believe) in determining how much you are going to charge - is how much of a return can you give them in exchange for them paying to have an ad.
A good way to start is simply throw out a reasonable number that is in the ballpark of what others are charging for similar ads on their sites. You can always negotiate back and forth with the person who wants to place the ad and come to a fair price to both of you.

It pays to be generous and over-deliver because if it's successful for the advertiser, they will tell their business associates and hopefully continue to be a long-term advertiser.

For employment-related ads I have seen them in the range of $25-300 per month for a standard banner ad. You have to come to your price based on the factors that I mentioned above.

Thank you very much for taking the time to reply and provide this information! (Not sure how to invoke the "thanks this person for this post" function, but thank you again!)

Research the prices of other websites in your niche.
