The economy has been rough on America's rich. Poor Bill Gates has lost 7 BILLION over the past 12 months. Don't cry too many tears for him, he's still number one with a measly 50 BILLION He is 53, so I kind of feel sorry that he doesn't have 1 BILLION dollars for every year he has been alive. If he hadn't lost that 7 BILLIOn he would have easily accomplished this. Here's the whole story and the list of the top 21: the-forbes-400.html: Personal Finance News from Yahoo! Finance |

Cool list. Never heard of most of them. Bill is still king I see. I though someone beat him out recently, that may be on an international list of billionaires. Mike |

If one of the Waltons killed off the other three, after doing a bit of will fiddling, they could top the list. |

What most people don't realize is Bill Gate's "worth" is based on "paper" - which means it's based off of stock value. The stock market and market valuations are up and down these days and if Microsoft's stock price plummets then so does his "worth". Also, under SEC rules, Bill can't just cash in all of his shares at one time. I think there are certain "oil tycoons" that are probably richer than Bill and a lot of other people that have their wealth and worth tied to stocks. I know I would rather my wealth be tied to or backed by oil than the up and down stock market. Just my two cents... Robert |

Gee, I thought I would see names like Frank Kern, John Reese, Brad Fallon, Eben Pegan, Rich Schefren, Mike Filsaime, etc on that list. Come on guys, we got to get some Internet marketers on that list. |

Well I know that for a while, Warren Buffet had ousted Bill Gates from the Kingship, but recently with the ****ty economy, Bill Gates came back. Still quite a feat for those old guys...

You mean the guys from Google, Yahoo, SalesForce.com (on the top 400), Amazon, and the like don't count? Zuckerberg? These are just Americans. IIRC, the media/telecommunications guy from Mexico is over $100B.

Look at Paul Allen with absolutely no beard! And I always wonder why you need so much money... I mean, you don't use it anyway. It's just the company value. And what if you die without selling the company. You never see the money that way.. |

Way to go Bill! Like it or not, the massive wealth these people have was well-earned. In Mr. Gates case he made computers accessible to everyone. Did he "borrow" other's ideas? Maybe. But he also knew how to market it to the masses. The Walton family, despite their many faults, provide products at reasonable prices. Yes, it comes at a cost to others, and I don't agree with some of the things they do. We can all learn a lesson from the Forbes list. Sell people what they want. All the best, Michael |

These are just Americans on that list but Bill Gates is also the richest man in the world. I think you are talking about Carlos Slim from Mexico but he is number 3 I believe. -John

Yeah, I saw this article yesterday. I was surprised to see mayor Bloomberg in the top 10. I thought i remembered reading somewhere that his net worth was only 4 bil. Good to see he gave $235 million to charity last year though.
