How Do I Prevent PPL From Accessing My Product Download Page?

I've just made a sales page, affiliate center and thank you + download page for a product I've made. Is there a way to prevent people who haven't bought the product from accessing the download page? It's not like there are links to it, but theoretically, the link could be shared.

At the moment, after paying via Paypal, the buyer is returned to the download page. It's not set up with Clickbank or PayDotCom, but do they have a solution for this?

You should get a copy of DLGuard and install it on your server. That's one of the best options available.

There are crappy options such as changing the URL every few weeks so that any shared link is stale, but you want a hands-off solution.

I'm not sure about PayDotCom, but PayPal and ClickBank require you to set up your own thank-you page or download page. So you have to take care of the protection yourself.

Besides DLGuard, I came across another secured download solution called easyClickGuard. This script supports ClickBank, PayPal, and 2CO.

You can also use a service like ejunkie, which integrates with PayPal to deliver your product.

E-junkie is free with a coupon code.

Then its like $5 a month.

Its so simple, just set up your product pick your price and BAM!
You can make the DL expire after a certain number of DL's
or within a certain time frame.

Also try click 2 sell, they are free except they only charge you when you make a sale.
    again like 1-2 dollars.

For both of these you will need paypal, but I'm sure you already have it!

    Cheers.

Clickbank provides information to enable you to check that a visit to your thank you page relates to a genuine purchase. They even provide some code that you can use in their help pages. Treat this as the starting point and not the whole solution though.

Use DLGuard and name the folder where you keep your documents with a GUID http://www.guidgenerator.com/ Nobody will be able to ever guess your folder name in a million, billion years.

You get what you pay for. Free is NOT the way to go. Is this a hobby or a business? Ask yourself that, seriously. If it is a business, BUY the right tool.

I use DL Guard. Lots of people here do. The support is awesome, the capabilities are fantastic and you'll never regret it. Never.

Wanted to add to this thread rather than starting yet another one - have the same issue, and have been trying e-junkie out for a while.

Very good service- with Paypal. Recently tried to use 2checkout instead of Paypal, and e-junkie seems only set up to work with a simple "buy now" in 2checkout - not carts, not discount codes.

Net-net: think I'll have to try DLGuard, so that I can use whatever payment processor I choose.

I was about to look into Instant PayPal IPN Generator from paypal-ipn.com (not an affiliate)

I haven't used it, but if it's as good as it says it is then it might be just what you need. It's $19.97 which isn't much and they offer a 60 day money back guarantee, so it seems there's nothing to lose.

    Hi Loybond,

I'm Sam Stephens, the owner of DLGuard.com - I'm also the guy who wrote it, so I've had a LOT of experience in the download security area over the past nine years or so (DLGuard has been around for about 5 years, but I did security work for clients for years before that).

Are there cheaper solutions? Yes. Do they do what DLGuard does? No.

The question is: what is right for my business today, and will this solution still be useful for my business tomorrow.

You can easily outgrow the cheaper scripts when you realise you need extra functionality.

Services such as Ejunkie are good, until you start offering larger files for download, or a lot of them, then it becomes a quite expensive monthly bill.

It's fine for some people, but not for others.

What I'd recommend is look at your business, decide where you want to take it, and then make the decision on the solution that will not only work for you today, but will also work for you tomorrow.

If you have any questions, please do let me know - I'm happy to help!

    cheers

Though if you DO use a robots.txt file, never point it to the download folder where your files are kept - this just tells real humans where to find your stuff and download it all.

If you want to use a robots file, make sure you put your downloads in a randomly named subfolder of the folder you specified.

Keep in mind this only stops most search engines from spidering your download links. Once someone buys your product, your secret location is revealed.

This is why download management software is the only real way to secure your files - because they never reveal the real location of your files, and so even paying customers don't know where they are.

And the link they ARE given, expires after a certain amount of time or download attempts, making it useless to share.

    cheers
