How I Sold 985 Copies of an Affiliate Offer in 5 Days (Step by Step)

When I first started online in 2002, it took me a year to sell 985 copies of anything.

These days, I can typically do it in the span of a week.

Sure 985 copies of an abs book won't be enough to buy a new car, but
I still get SO many emails and messages here on the forum, from beginners
wanting to know the easiest way to get started online.

So, I wanted to actually walk you through the last affiliate offer I promoted.

It was an abs program I found on Clickbank.

Now, the way I find offers?

I play "matchmaker". I think of some of the bigger problems people have
in their lives, and then I try and "match them up" with a decent product.

By doing the affiliate route... you can often get started in a day or two,
because all you have to do is find your "market" and your "offer".

The market and offer are the 2 most important parts of the equation....
and copy is 3rd. Since it's an affiliate offer, that's done for you.

So, if you're looking for offers to promote, play the "match maker"
game in which you find a big problem people want solved, and then
find a product that solves it.

Match the 2 up, by using the steps I have below.

1. Find an offer on Clickbank that solves a problem and you know
people actively BUY solutions to.

This is why weight loss, health and wellness, dating, finance, jobs,
make money, relationships, marriage... all of these can be top sellers
because they deal with quality of life issues.

People will spend money to solve a problem that's bugging
them and taking away their happiness.

They'll give you money to get back into their comfort zone.

So, find a niche that happens to help people solve a quality
of life problem.

2. Out of the program, highlight ONE tip or technique you can
give away, in a free report.

The reason you want to give away a really good tip or technique?

It demonstrates to the prospect that you have answers, that
you're willing to help, and it gets them thinking there's a LOT
more good stuff.

For this abs program, I gave away a report that talked about
how sit ups are dangerous to do, and they don't help you get
abs at all.

I used plenty of facts and research to support the findings,
and by going against what so many people "think" is the
answer to getting abs... you trigger curiosity.

In the free report, I pre-sell the idea of a better way to get
abs, and I even talk about the method briefly... leading
people from the free report to the sales page.

Again, this free report is crucial, in that you CAN'T give
away just anything.

If your free info is garbage, people will assume any product
you have or promote is garbage.

Give away something immediately useful and valuable and
the prospect will think that whatever else you have is the same.

The free report demonstrates your expertise... which means
it can demonstrate that you have the answer... or you don't.

When in doubt, give away your best stuff.

Information is everywhere... but insight is not. In the free
report, give away something a person can use and see
a result, fast.

By doing this, and being helpful, not only do you dramatically
increase the odds of making a sale, but the people reading it
will be more likely in wanting to hear from you again.

The more helpful you are in the report, the better the chance
your prospects will want to hear from you, and will open your emails.

3. Facebook ad to promote the free report

This is where a lot of people mess up.

First of all, you can't make a bunch of claims on Facebook but what you CAN do is
use a case study that demonstrates what you're trying to say.

So, in my Facebook ad, I used the results that a good friend
of mine shared with me recently, at the gym, when he lifted up
his t-shirt and showed me his six pack abs.

That's when I asked him if I could use him in a case study
and ask him what he did. That way, I could use some of this
in the Facebook ad, without making claims I couldn't back up.

In your Facebook ad, you want to talk about one tip or
technique you're giving away, again, something that will help
a prospect see a result.

I can't get into all the targeting options I used... but
Facebook is effective when used right.

But, you can't make claims and you can't directly
link to an affiliate offer, at least not for long.

What you CAN do is use a case study to demonstrate
results, and give away a free report that has incredibly
useful and valuable info.

4. From the Facebook ad, send to opt in page

After you put up your Facebook ad, make sure the
prospect is sent to your opt in/squeeze page where you can
get their email address in return for the free report.

Be specific and laser focused on the problem you're
going to address and the solution you'll be giving them
in the report.

The more specifics you use on the opt in page, the
more believable it is.

And again, use curiosity to your advantage... think
of what your prospect would be dying to know if they
wanted to get abs.

5. From opt in page to thank you page

Once someone opts in, you can send them directly to
a thank you page, where MANY times you can make
a direct sale so you recoup some of your ad spend.

A little trick of the trade?

Some marketers will give you a discount link in the
affiliate resource center... knocking $10 or so off the
price of the program.

Well, on the Thank you page, you can put this discount
link there, for the prospect to buy now, so they save
money and you make an immediate sale.

The thank you page is a very underused piece of
real estate that I've found to be VERY profitable.

Why not offer a REAL discount and legit scarcity,
where you can actually say this $10 off is only good
right then and there.

6. Email follow up.

After they see the thank you page, they'll receive emails
that try and get them back to the sales page.

When done right, your emails will help boost rapport
and trust.. .because you're STILL giving them valuable
and helpful advice.

The minute you start bombarding them with sales pitches,
you'll be deleted and they will unsubscribe.

So use email to keep the relationship strong by offering up
useful, valuable information that also gets them back to the
offer you're promoting.

Give away a key piece of insight and advice in the first part
of the email and tie it into the affiliate offer.

From here, if someone buys, you can place them on a buyers
list, so you can then offer up more value, insight, and advice
that you get paid for.

There you have the steps I used to sell almost 1,000 copies
of an affiliate offer in less than a week.

I'm able to do this, because I've been marketing and writing
copy for 17 years, so I've learned how to use ATTRACTION
marketing instead of pushing stuff onto people.

I promise, give these steps a try and think of yourself
as a "match maker" and you can literally grab an affiliate
offer and start selling stuff online as soon as tonight.

Thanks Robert, I really appreciate it.

I didn't have a fan page, I haven't had much luck with those,
but I do have a bit of an advantage with Facebook ads, having used
them for 4 to 5 years... being able to work through the learning curve
      for targeting.

And another poster mentioned that too... a LOT does go into targeting
on Facebook, but that's way beyond the scope of this post.

I wanted to post this because I get 3 to 4 messages a day from newer marketers
and those who haven't had any luck here, so when I noticed I was sending out
a lot of the same response, I figured I'd post something here.

For me, I've got a good idea what target markets will resonate with the
offer I was promoting, so again, a bit of an advantage.

I usually start at $5 per day, go to $10 a day once I gain some reach
and traction... and usually won't go above $20 a day for the first week.. until
I work out a lot of the kinks. And truthfully, some offers never make it that far!

This one, I started at $5, and by day 5, was at $20 per day. It's still running and
still profitable, but I don't really work as hard as I COULD at scaling these things...
with as many other things I've got running.

      Hope this helped!

    Genius,

obviously you did things right, but I would put it down to hard work, list building and TARGET TARGET TARGET right down on your audience on FB.

If we have target audience to general on FB your ad spend goes right up..... tight tight tight.

If you get to know what underpants color they wear on a thursday ....LOL....that sort of targeting can get you HUGE results and you can split test 3 or so ads for that hook.

You need to have a good hook or headline on FB these days, with 3 or so benefits.

So like this "how a broke college student, found the secrets to making money by accident, His ABC strategy is turning heads everywhere"

I am sure you get my point, but the image is more important on a FB ad too.

    Well done.

Everyone starts out more or less as a cog in the big work wheel. But some of us are smarter and more gifted than others, like Shawnlebrun; they do their jobs pretty much the same way in the beginning, but they soon outdistance the pack magically and these are the folks who ultimately make the big bucks.

The thing is, most newbies don't understand that it doesn't happen by itself. You can't sell 1000 copies of books in 5 days until you figure out how to be great at something that really matters to your customers, and it may take up to a decade or two. That's just the way it is.

So, this post sounds like a total feel-good nonsense for those who are starting out. Successful people work long hours to get their work done, AND they don't read or write about nonsense like other people's habits and personal productivity revelations.

If you want to be successful, quit wasting your precious time on meaningless fluff when you should be working.

      Hey Robert,

You need to have a page to link to, in your ads, if you want your ad to be shown in the news feed.

So, you don't use your personal profile, but rather one of your pages you have linked to your FB account.

But, in all reality, people aren't sent to that business page... they are sent off Facebook to m own website/landing page.

The page is used to show that a real person/business is running the ad, which is why Facebook has you link up to a page you're owner or admin of.

so, short answer... you do need a page if you want to run newsfeed ads... but prospects won't see that page, they're led off Facebook if you want to send them to, say, a squeeze page. But the prospect WILL see your page profile in the upper left corner of the ad...

      Hope this helped.

This is great information, but I do have a couple of questions.

    1. Do you buy the programs before you sell them to see if they are any good.
If not, how do you determine if they actually are gong to help or solve
the specific problem in question? (If your free info is garbage, people will assume any product
you have or promote is garbage.)

    2. Do you select your products by "Gravity", sales %, etc. How do
    you filter your selections?

    3. What guidelines do you use for your Facebook ad placement - if any?

Forgive me if I am getting too detailed, but these questions just did
that "POP" thing into my brain.

I know that some of the ad stuff may depend on what is being sold.

Thank you for the stellar post!
THIS part is crucial and it's why one of my funnel building services here on
the forum is so popular, because you're 100% right.

If your free info you give away is not any good... people will assume everything
after it will be no good.

So, when I do these funnels, I make sure the quality of the free information
is so good, it presells the product.

You want to leave a prospect wanting MORE... and they can get more by
      buying the full product.

If you leave them thinking "is that it".... they won't buy anything else.

And that's one of the single biggest mistakes I see people making online...
they give away free info that's just not any good.

Let's face it, anyone can find any information these days.

I don't care what you sell, people can find information on it.

But what they CAN'T find is useful, applicable insight and advice
that SHOWS them what to do, and how to do it.

By giving prospects immediately useful advice that gets them
a little bit closer to where they want to be, you've pre-sold them
      on wanting to know more.

And that's where your full product comes in... they're in a presold
mode because of the amazing free info you've given them.

So, the funnel offer I do for clients, I write the free report myself
because I KNOW how valuable that entire first step is.

You hit the nail on the head... it's ALL up to your free report,
as to whether or not they continue listening to you.

Provided you get their attention with the Facebook ad... the
opt in page is make or break.

You have to offer up something so incredibly helpful and useful...
people want badly to know what it is.

But then, you gotta back it up with the free report.

I see dozens of free reports each week, from clients and
      from other marketers.

Most won't work, because it's just boring, plain info you can
get and read from any source.

But, give away some of your best stuff, right away in the free
report, and you're much more likely to convert this person
      from prospect to buyer.

You must, must, must have the mindset these days of
"I am going to give away some of my best stuff"

When you do that and help someone see a fast win or
result... they will buy from you and follow you to the ends
      of the Earth.

But hand them boring, uninspiring, free info that they can
find in seconds, on google, and you've lost them for good.

      Because what happens?

Exactly what you said: they think the free info is crap... so
anything else AFTER it will be too. Click away, bye-bye.

So absolutely, you're right... you must give away useful insight
they just can't find anywhere else.

Do that and you'll presell them on the full product, without
      even trying :-)

    Just matching people with solutions.

One tip I would add is keeping the look of your offer consistent from your ad to your landing page to your thank you page. If you use a book cover as a graphic in the ad, use it in the landing page and TY page as well. Same goes for color scheme.

      Barbara,

      Thanks for your post.

Honestly, it depends on whether you're running lead ads on
Facebook or you're using "traffic" in the campaign objective.

With lead ads, your opt in and download stay on Facebook and
its all done on their platform.

I prefer to get clicks to a website OFF facebook... which is
where I'll set up the opt in page to collect emails and send them
      the download/info.

Different people will tell you they've had varied results.. but
my results with lead ads on Facebook weren't stellar, so I've
stayed with running ads to a website off Facebook.

And you're right... Facebook isn't big on affiliate links, in fact,
you'll probably get shut down with direct linking... maybe not
      right off, but you will.

The single best way to prevent that?

It's doing what I mentioned above... offer up a great piece of
insight and content using a Facebook ad, send people
to a page to get that content, and then use the free report
and thank you page, along with emails, to plug the affiliate offer.

My entire "5 step funnel" method came about a few years ago
after trying out a few affiliate offers on Facebook, finding that they
were getting no where, and then realizing that the best way
around it isn't to cheat the system, it's to just offer up something
      people WANT.

So, if you offer up amazing value and insight... mixed in with
proper directions and calls to action... you'll get plenty of people
      willing to follow.

Please explain something to me about Facebook ads.
These ads cost a lot right? Maybe $0.6 to $1 a click?
Wouldn't that eat up any profit?
I mean 100 clicks to your free offer would cost you at least $60.
Then I can't imagine that more than 1% of the leads actually buy the abs e-book, and I don't see how you could earn more than $60 in commission per e-book.
    What am I missing here?

    thank you for sharing

    simple

    1) Identify an evergreen niche
    • The first thing you need to do is identify a niche, and you want to take three things into consideration when doing this.
    • Ask yourself if is this a niche that is very popular with a large selection of products or services that will always have a high demand.

    2) Build your website

Create 3-5 review posts. Ideally make these unique and based on real experience using the product for best results. If you're lazy just rewrite from other similar sites.

    - Insert affiliate links for the products you are reviewing.

    3) Promote your website

There are lots of ideas in this thread but a simple way to get started is using a simple Google search.

    4) Stay consistent

Popular niches will generate a lot of Google results and a lot of activity through BuzzBundle. A lot of your results are going to come from press releases, blog posts and forums post. Keep track of all the URL's on a daily basis
