Default Who are the Twitter and Facebook Gurus?

Admittedly I'm late to the social media party.

I'm not looking to sell anything, and I don't want a massive group of untargetted followers. What I'm looking for are strategies for building large groups of targetted followers in specific niches (not the make money crowd).

Can anyone point me to some good information?

Thanks,

John

hey John

this might sound really basic, but to get a good response from things like Twitter just be yourself and tweet about real things that are important to you and your target niche.

The key to getting people to follow you and to retweet your tweets is to GIVE GIVE GIVE value, in my opinion.

hope that helps

Twitter search is the key.

Look for people who are talking about your niche (ideally using "buying" phrases), then entice them to follow you.

If you can do these things in an automated way without looking spammy, you're golden. There is an rss feed for the search results, so you can play with it if you're creative or just find a solution that someone else has already figured out...

John,
I wouldn't really say that their are any Twitter or Facebook Gurus and here's why; Just like the search engines tactics are constantly changing. Now there are a lot of eBooks out there trying to teach people how to take over each website, but the fact of the matter is that there isn't one set way to do it. It's a lot of brainstorming, and a lot of innovative ideas, that take the cake on this one. Check for some good blogs to read and subscribe to them in an RSS reader, they are constantly being updated with great new ideas.

I second that!

I would also reccomend using friend adder programs for myspace, facebook, and twitter. I would also suggest using socialoomph.com to manage and automate all of your social networks.

YO!
Here is what I do. Use Twitter Tools plugin for Wordpress, type as many compelling articles, and you should start seeing Twitter followers. Since April, I have nearly 1800 Twitter followers from this method. I have done this all manually with no autoscripts. The hard part is to monetize this audience. I am trying to figure that one out still. I really have found Facebook not be worthy yet as my account has delivered very little. I do use wibya to link to a Facebook group but it is starting to show potential in building something up as the site grows. Let's hope it does. I would recommend other methods to better increase your site traffic. Twitter is good though to do that.

As Far as Facebook goes...

Robert Grant and Ian David Chapman. They are two highly sought after Social Media Experts and very good friends of mine.

They are responsible for some well known celebrities Facebook campaigns and have exposed me to things I never knew existed. I am talking BIG Time Results.

Ironically, they are releasing a new program call Crowd Conversion which is the most comprehensive package I have seen with regards to in depth strategies that will put your business on the map with facebook, drive boat loads of people to your site and add to your
bottom line

They are in pre-launch right now but the information they are giving away is absolutely killer.

This is a non affiliated link.
Crowd Conversion ? Turning An Audience Into Paying Customers - Facebook Training

I can honestly say that I have not seen a program like it anywhere.

Hope this helps

I wouldn't say I am any guru of any sorts but I do have a facebook fan page of my arcade/entertainment website that has 1.5 million fans. It took me two months to build up this fan base and yes money is being made from it. There is a strategy to building up these strong fan base or followers but it is not that complex. And I did not spend a dime, use any type of friend adder it was a bit of research and basically just giving people what they want.

1.5 Million in two months ....just giving people what they want?

Care to elaborate on the specifics of that strategy?

For Twitter, I'm learning from Joel Comm's Twitter Power.

As for Facebook, I'm learning from Dave Awl's Facebook Me!.

Both are physical books.

I grew my twitter following myself and i'm glad i did. i used things such as twellow.com.
It lets you look for people in your area, in your niche or in your industry. After i made some friends, i'd go into THEIR followers and the people THEY follow and add all of them. I've never used any adder tools and never purchased followers. I'm over 16,000 now and whenever i twitter with a link to one of my blog posts, I do get a good amount of traffic.

Tellow is totally badass. They now have a feature now where you can find local twitter users to follow.

What Twitter tools are you currently using?

I started a thread for people to share their twitter tools with other warriors. If you wouldn't mind contributing that would be great!

Hey John
Ed Dale seems to know his way around Facebook and Twitter. Check out Day 14 and 15 of this year's Thirty Day Challenge to get you started. He talks about tools as well as strategy. You should be able to move on from there.
Crowd Conversion mentioned above looks like it might be useful as well.

Best wishes......

Perry Belcher has some very unique views when it comes to social media
I attended a webinar with him in it and was amazed at the very good info, many things I personally never would have thought of.

Don Crowther (Stompernet) I would guess to be the king of Twitter. He is very conservative, believes in all the suggestions above and suggests self-promoting 1 in up to 200 tweets!

There are a few more with very interesting thoughts on it. Not sure how well these ideas work. I have driven traffic to pages with it, but much of it by nature is untargeted and low conversion (IMHO). Especially for the time involved, even automating much of it. Perry had the most creative I have heard after sitting in on 4-5 webinars with various people. Most of the really large gurus I know well don't do much with social media. I know some big names do mess with it, but other than the two I mentioned, and some big bloggers sending traffic to their blogs (much automated, I would guess) I don't know what they are doing or if they are making any money with it.

www.PSPTubeDepot.com - 24,000+ images for personal (and some commercial) use

(& No, I make no money from any of these sites.)
