Hi All,

A friend of mine called and asked me to find her a recipe for cooking lobster.

While searching for "lobster" I saw a link that said "lobster roaches," "What on earth," I thought and clicked the link.

I'll say no more except, there really is an unlimited amount of niches out there. Who would have thunk it.

Here is an excerpt from a how to article on breeding of all things, roaches.

Niche marketing is alive and well. Hmmmm, Roaches Niches

"Once Lobster roach colonies are well established you will have roaches of all different sizes to offer lizards the exact size they need. Soft and yummy, think of Lobster roaches as living hamburgers full of juicy meat just waiting for your animals to consume! Raising roaches is easy and raising Lobster roaches easiest of all."

  • HAHAHA, NICE!

That sounds like a really profitable niche market given the low level of competition, lol

Thanks for the laugh and the insight.

My favorite part of doing niche market research is just seeing what the hell is even out there...I am very consistently surprised!

Weird niches that I have seen:

    1. Jump higher market
    2. Reduce man boob market
    3. Build your own chicken coop
    4. How to raise beetles

I play basketball. Trust me, jumping higher is one of the only things that us ballers think about growing up.

It is the same with volleyball players.

I used to spend hours doing all sorts of stuff to try and get higher on my jumps when I was in school as I played on basket ball team. For everyone who can't dunk and plays basketball there is a big desire to be able to dunk. Maybe I might write a "Dunk In 30 Days" ebook lol.

That's great. I'm suddenly reminded of the Seinfield episode where George's father invents the Manziere - a bra for men.

Now it sounds like the manziere may actually be a viable product, lol.

I also really wish I had saved all of the bizarre niches I had uncovered over the years. I know I found some good ones but what specifically.

One of my personal favorite marketers started out in that niche over a decade ago. I'm not going to say who it was, but he's well-known.

I have been amazed out how many people are raising their own chickens in the US now a days.

Well, I guess you can tell which generation I came from... when I read "lobster roaches" my very first thought was new paraphernalia to hold those "burned down" joints, i.e., roach clips!

Forget the raising roaches niche, having been a carpet cleaner in the Phoenix area in another life, they really have the market cornered out there.

Where I see real potential is in showing them how to market the little buggers, in that area they never seem to be able to move many of them

I knew this had to be out there somewhere! My daughter's close friend from high school had spiders delivered. Warning: if you have the need for having spiders delivered, take the UPS delivery schedule with a serious grain of salt! My daugher and her friend both now call U P S trucks Oops trucks! But that's a story for another day.

She ordered them for a biology research project. I learned more than I care to know about jumping high (that other niche mentioned above! Ha!) only the project was all about how high the SPIDERS would jump.

An anthropologist studies unique things, that's all I have to say! That and, you go girl! She won a scholarship and a national award based on her research, believe it or not.

After that experience (especially the "wait a minute, one of them got out of the container" stories!) I don't consider ANY niche all that weird! Just different. And especially when you consider that somebody had to raise, and then pack and ship for delivery, those spiders I mentioned earlier! Until that day I never knew UPS handled "live delivery" of anything.

I have been amazed out how many people are raising their own chickens in the US now a days.
I grew up living next door to an older neighbor who raised his own chickens, even though it was in the city. I used to think it was strange when I was little because he was the only one I knew. But after checking the prices of some of the chicken at the market yesterday, I'm starting to understand!

EDIT: Also, it's all the eggs you can eat!
