In the discussions I have read regarding SideWiki, there is one seemingly obvious point which I haven't seen pointed out. Politicians Virtually every politician, from the lowest to the most powerful, have a website. How will they react to unmanageable comments? They will be instant targets for everyone that disagrees with them. How long till their sites are slammed by their opposition? This begs the question - How will this affect election campaigns? Imagine, political candidates with thousands of rabid supporters, each going after the others websites. Bloodbath. Google is an American company, so ask this, how will congressmen, senators, governors etc. respond? This glaring oversight could result in Google being spelled Ggle. Something to ponder... Lawrence |

Wow for some reason I hadn't thought of this angle till I read your post. I can't see Google getting in some major scrunch, though. If it becomes a problem, they can just shut sidewiki down--or maybe just shut it down for certain sites (which would make for some interesting publicity/ethical knots). They could also refuse to back down, and maybe gain some good press as 1st Amendment advocates. After all, Google is all about doing good! |

I imagine they'll just disable sidewiki comments on such sites. No such luck for us peons. They manually removed the famous George Bush "failure" googlebomb. |

well,if politicians, and corporate sites are the lucky ones to have SW removed..i think that's time for everyone to do a class action against them. (discrimination) PS: I have thought about this before. I'm worried that if it happens this way(big sites gets SW removed) we'll totally lose any rights. |
