I have read several post and replies on here of people working on their online business 10 hours plus a day . My question is .... what the heck are you doing . Are you cranking out your own programs every day ? Although this is just an opinion, I can't see anyone really working 10 hours straight on any aspect of internet marketing . When I am getting ready to launch a new product I might have 10 or 15 hours in a high end product . This is very rare . I spend a couple of hours a day driving traffic . Even this is not every day . Ask yourself are you really working that many hours ? Starring at the screen .... does not count Logging into the WF for hours at a time .... does not count . Same goes for you tube , face book, and twitter . I am as bad as the next guy for sitting in front of a screen and screwing off but this is not work. Work is (at least to me ) something that produces results for my business while at the same time not being particularity enjoyable . I am not calling anyone a liar . There is no disrespect intended . I really want to know what is taking so freakin long . Edit: Since this post has came back around (funny how that happens online) I want to explain a little . I am not talking about the people that are making money and being productive . As long as your ROI is justified ... go for it . As a matter of fact if it is not justified ... really nothing to me .... go for it . I was just really wondering how you see these post with people working 16 hours a day and saying they are not making any money . |

Did you stop to think that some people might have larger businesses that require more attention and involvement?... Some projects require a few hours, some require weeks, months and years of solid focus... time spent on work is only wasted if it is counter-productive to your end goals. Work to me is something that is productive in my business and is largely enjoyable, the moment I stop enjoying it.. I'll stop doing it. Peace Jay |

This is not exactly what I was referring to . I see people on here all the time saying they are working 10, 12 , 16 hours a day and are about to give up because they are not making any money . I was just wondering how they could put that much time into something and not see anything out of it . Thanks for the reply jay . As usual you have come up with a valid point That my tiny brain could not wrap around .

my most recent product took about 3 weeks of 6+ hours a day to get fully ready for prime time - and even then I am still tweaking it. Sometimes I DO work 10 hours straight on a product. I have also sat down and whipped out a $7 eBook in 2 hours but that is not my norm. I prefer higher end, higher content filled products that over deliver and the time requirement is much higher. Forgot to add: like Jay - I like doing it |

The problem with this is , I make my living online . If I had worked on nothing else and it bombs , I would have to get one of those job thingies for the fact that I let my business go. The majority of the people, I see on here, is trying to make their first buck and would be tickled to death with a few hundred a week. I can average about $400 a day driving traffic for two hours a day . Work on a new product for a couple of hours a day and play with my kids and their momma the rest of the time . I commend you for putting out quality products . It is good to see someone who cares enough about their stuff to put the extra in . I am just saying that if those that are working the hours and not seeing the desired results would get a system down and stick to it , they would start seeing the cash flow in .

| I am building a multi million dollar business. I am glad you are happy making $400 a day. Not everyone is. Not only that but some of us do enjoy what we do. Please don't think everyone is "happy" to have your life. I hate pompous posts like this that assume we are all looking for the same things in life.

I'm still trying to figure it all out - plus writing articles, ebooks - reading everything I can get my hands on. I put in about 12 hours straight from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. yesterday. Plus some idiots woke me up playing their loud music next door, so I researched for about two more hours before waking this a.m. and starting all over again. Not to whine or anything, but, just stating a fact: In my case, I've experienced a series of tragedies right out of a horror movie since last year, so I work in order to keep my mind on something else a lot of the time - otherwise I'm complete wreckage. |

Uuumm, I have to outsource a little more... Here I was thinking that by outsourcing my last two projects that I saved a little time...Nope! I started another project! I tend to use the time I save outsourcing to allow me more time to create projects that I can outsource and then the cycle continues... Damn you John Taylor for that advise! j/kBest damn advise I ever received! I'll continue to do this the same way till the snowball is big enough to roll down hill all by it's self. Troy, It's not the fact that many put too much time into their businesses. It's the fact that they want more than just their fare share...Greedy Bastards...lol Work hard now while you still can and reap the rewards later while allowing yourself and family to enjoy the way of life you've created! ![]() I live off the internet myself. It is all about cashflow. Sure, if you want to stay at $400 a day than great for you. I don't but than again I have always thought big. Sometimes you have to put in a lot of hours to get there. It isn't a bad thing and shouldn't be looked down upon. You may want to read Eric Louviere's (sp) posts he did recently. I don't know of any people that made a lot of money by working 4 hours a day.

I didn't see the OP as being pompous, although I can see how it could be misinterpreted. It's a valid question: if people are really spending those kinds of hours and aren't seeing a decent return, then obviously they're doing something wrong. Or they're really surfing the web for most of that time and just think they're working.

I don't look at it from the standpoint of how many hours I work. I look at it from the standpoint of how much stuff I get done. When I am working I lose track of time.

Personally i 'screw off' a whole lot more than i should! Since hiring my full time workers they have really proven to me actually how much time i do spend not doing anything constructive and that helps my business grow and puts more money in my back pocket at the end of the month. Since then ive been working alot harder and got alot more thing's done but it shouldn't have taken this long to change. Tom Brite |

I did a time study on myself earlier this year to really see where my time was going, what could be cut out, delegated, outsourced, etc., without sacrificing growth. Thanks to a lot of automation, the absolute minimum average time I need per day to work is 23 minutes ![]() Although I often "Work" more than that, it's by personal choice rather than need. And part of that is perception in terms of what actually constitutes work. I have a plan and I follow it, but I don't let it drive me to the exclusion of everything else. I keep things flexible and sustainable for long-term growth that isn't reliant upon long "Working" hours. |

For example, you know how long it will take you to compose a sales email, create a landing page and so forth. You schedule this time and only spend your time working on this task, no goofing off because you're working for a mean boss, yourself. You can take a break during longer tasks but try to break down your tasks into at least 4-8 hour chunks. I usually do 30 minute to 1 hour tasks myself unless I'm working on a larger software project but everyone has their own work pace. I also suggest making the tasks well defined and not overly broad. This is more manageable for most people.

Guys, Some of us work harder, other smarter, and others simply do nothing. I am a worker. I work Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 9 o'clock till i get bored. Some days it's just 6 hours while other days it's a massive 16 hours to get things done on schedule. And I work too during weekends if I get a couple free hours. I love what I do, this is not "The Work". Well, it's my work, but not work as some people see it. BUT Developing Websites and graphic design for clients takes me several hours per day. And it's stuff I DON'T outsource. It's a good pay, you bet, but it takes time and personal effort. Same for meetings or photo shoots. It's not hard work, but heck, I need to be there. That I can't and won't outsource. As for IM, automation is paying bit time here, I use it whenever I can. And outsource too, especially written content. I spend some time here cause automation + outsource makes it possible. Otherwise I'll be doing it by myself. P.S.: Tuesdays ,Thursdays and Saturday morning are surf days. Fernando |

FUNNY! As I was reading this thread my wife was on her computer at this site: Frank Robert Dixon - 3 pictures An artist's website. The artist is my son's art teacher. Here are two quotes from his "WORD" art. It fits this thread. "I took these two quotes from his site "I stuggle much because I do little. If I do much I struggle little." "I need move from sit and stare to dream and dare." |

I'm just starting out so I work for 12 or more hours straight. Sometimes I get distracted, but anyway the last few months I'm all about Internet Marketing. I sleep IM, I eat IM, I think IM. ![]() I'm studying internet marketing and right now I've got my site up and running and is my only concern driving traffic and get the whole thing to convert well. It's hard, but I feel I have to do this. In some way I like it. I like the freedom and enjoy spending time behind the computer. My goal is to create a great future for myself and my family. |

As per my user title, I still feel I'm in the apprenticeship phase of IM so I spend a large amount of my day on it. If I had to break it down though, in reality I'm not sure actual work done would add up to much more than 6 hours a day on average. I'm gradually building it up to 8 hours, and maybe eventually getting to 12 hours. For the most part, I enjoy it, but I've not yet reached my income targets so I need to keep putting in the hours every single day |

If you're trying to build an empire and you're in the business for the love of it IE Russell Brunson, John Reese, Eben Pegan, ETC... Then you're going to have to put in alot more than 8 hours per day. Because there is always more to create. I'm in productive mode, so I rise early, and sleep late workign on my business. But 2 months out of the summer I did a meditation retreat and didn't do anything in my business really. So it just depends on what you're trying to accomplish. Daniel |

I can't even imagine spending more than 8 hours a day working on IM on a regular basis. Spending that long in front of a computer day after day would take a heavy toll on my physical well-being as well as my social/family life. I tend to be more of a binge worker. If caught up in the throes of an exciting new idea I can easily put in a 16 hour day without even realizing where the time went. After the initial excitement wears off I am back to 2-3 hours a day. It might be a slower path to riches, but I am enjoying the journey along the way. |

It's not about the number of hours, it's about your level of CHOICE in the matter. If you worked 16 hours yesterday because you HAD to... you've got a job. If you worked 16 hours yesterday because you CHOSE to and WANTED to... you've got a business that's giving you some extra options for how you live your life... choices that the majority of people wake up in the morning without even the possibility of being able to make. I work from 7am to 11pm most nights but I still make time to party. Like Andrew said, it's about options. I like the option of laying a foundation so that I don't HAVE to work this much in the future if I dont want to...I like the option of being able to afford backstage passes to the Lady GaGa show for my wife...I like the option of being debt-free forever...etc. |
