I'm new here...just getting started to IM. I was hoping to get some ideas on where to start.

What is your advise? What do do first?

learn to build a list of subscribers that are interested in a product market. A list of people that want to cure their Acne, a list of people that want to get their ex back, a list of people that want to know... how to build a LIST!

Learn to use an autoresponder and how to copy and paste the code into a website (it's easy)

Learn to put up squeeze pages or landing pages with a free offer to get people to sign up on your list.

Learn to write articles that compell people to click on your link at the end of the article so that it takes them to your landing page.

Learn to write very good content emails that also sort of soft sell an affiliate product so you earn a commission.

I think that's about it :-)

You are going to want to find your niche market. What market do you want to go into and what do you want to sell? Is it fashion? health and fitness? Make money online? You need to figure that out first.

Yes, I'm totally serious. It's not that hard to start building a list. All you need is a one page website (squeeze page), a free offer to give away (like a free report) and traffic.

  1. Do a search on YouTube for “how to create a squeeze page”. Follow instructions and build your page.
  2. Write a short report to give away.
  3. Write some articles and submit them to ezinearticles.com, bookmark your site ect.

You can be a complete newbie and still follow the above advice.

I'm a newbie too, but I think I have a couple insights that might help. (You can learn from my mistakes).

I've been studying this stuff for a while, just slow to act on what I've learned. If I spent half as much time taking action as studying, I'd be a guru by now; instead I'm still a newbie.

I like what the guys above me said, and if you do it you'll be ahead of where I am now. I would add a couple caveats to the (excellent) suggestion to spend time going through this forum.

When you do go through it, make sure you pay attention to the people that are upbeat and have created some results for themselves; ignore the whiners that are talking about giving up, it's just too hard, etc.

I suggest you spend the pittance it costs to join the warroom, and spend 90% of your time on the forum going through the warroom threads; they are moderated by Allan Says, the owner of the forum. Only threads that start with a really valuable post are allowed.

Pay special attention to the threads from Allan Says; he's a brilliant marketer.

But my biggest suggestion is this: find a business model you like and stick with it for a while. Spend at least as much time taking action as you do reading/listening/watching/learning about all the cool stuff you might do when you finally know enough.

This is an awesome forum, but it can be overwhelming, and there is always so much more to learn, it will make your head spin. It's very easy to get caught in an endless cycle of learning about the next enticing opportunity, technique, or business model. Only action brings results, so pick a plan and work it!

Now I better take my own advice;-). I'll race ya!

it sounds like the first thing to do is read, read, read. then you make the decision on what you need to do on your decided direction.

Hi Roxanne,

It is true, this forum is full of information on Internet marketing that it's almost like a university..

My advice to you is to use the search feature of this forum and search for threads that asks the same question you asked. A lot of us here started basically with the same question and so I'm sure you would find tons of recommendations on those threads.

One thing though. You must have the capacity to FOCUS, ACT and to IMPLEMENT what you read. It's very common for Internet marketers to get stuck because of Information overload, however once they started implementing even the smallest plan, things move again.

Another advice is to check out free comprehensive Internet marketing trainings that are available.

There's the 30 days challenge, It's a comprehensive internet marketing training. It's free but the recommended tools aren't.

Also Shoemoney is giving away a complete home study course also for free. Try visiting his website.

To Your Success!

Omar

The first thing to do is create your marketing plan. This includes finding a niche, keyword research, market analysis - including competition, volume, profitability.

The second to the last thing you do is build your site.

The last thing you do is kick your promotion (part of your plan) into high gear.

And remember that whatever you do if you want to make money you MUST remember there is a real live human on the other end of the transaction. That is your focus.

Lots of good advice is already posted, but I do have something to add. The number one reason that most people never make any money online is they Don't Take Action. They read and research and buy every product that comes along, and never get around to doing anything. So if you're serious about getting into IM, set limits for yourself and stick to them. Set a limit of how much money you can spend on ebooks and courses, and use the money carefully. Set a limit of how long you are going to read and research before you start to take action, and don't go past that date. Put that date in your calendar, then use the advice that's already been posted, and learn as much as you can as fast as you can, because there's a lot to learn. Then do it.

Ally Woodrum,
The Cheap Internet Marketer - This is my site that's loaded with all types of free or inexpensive articles, reports and ebooks.

The Niche Detector - is a proven, step-by-step system of finding good, paying niches and keywords. Newbies will especially like this system, it's simple but works great.

The first place to start is with you. What is your background? If you have never been in Sales before than you need to understand that Internet Marketing is the Direct Response Business.

You see, if you come from some other line of work then Sales and Marketing then your experience has been based on “Linear Thinking”.

Linear thinking is how the education system works, starting with kindergarten, first grade, and a step-by-step process etc. You can follow this up to a P.H.D. if you are inclined to do so.

Here’s the real story, that system is design to teach you respect for authority. You start with your parents, teachers, lastly your manager. The manager want someone with good grades and respect for authority to help them be successful.

Meanwhile, you are now in a different arena. This stuff requires “Lateral Thinking”. (What that means is that there is more than one way to do things).

I’m not going to make it public here, but if you want more information on the subject just sent me a PM and I will tell you what to read.

Jimmy

My first advice is to learn all the traffic methods involved. The best one to start with is article marketing. It's a simple way to earn some quick cash, while learning the ropes of this business.

When I first started, I read until I knew all the IM lingo since I have had no formal marketing training or experience. Now that I know what people are talking about when they mention SEO, sales funnels, or squeeze pages, learning IM is faster and more effective for me.
