Default How do we tap this market?

Literally every mother with a computer is blogging. Some are making millions for their diaper changing stories but the majority aren't monetizing their blogs at all.

They accept free offers from companies in exchange for a review (which works well for the advertiser - but not so much for the blogger). Most of them believe that they will lose their readers if they actively 'promote' a product. The truth is they are already promoting products, they are just not getting paid!

Some of these Mommy Bloggers or 'BlogHers' have a readership of over 1000 a day. They host 'Twitter Parties' and can generate 100 clicks on a site in less than an hour. Definately a powerful force, such a shame they under-utilize the traffic they generate.

There is a directory set up but to advertise costs a minimum of $20,000! Only a budget that the likes of Kellogs and Huggies could afford.

The readership is a gold mine for anyone that is a merchant or a 2nd tier affiliate marketer and it would be a win-win for bloghers and merchants.

I was wondering if there was already a site set up that teaches 'how to monetize your blog' and connects these bloggers with affiliates that have products that would be suitable for their blogs. Similar to a marketplace but specifically for bloggers, not already established affiliate marketers as such.

Sounds like you need a marketplace, bring the advertisers and bloggers together. BTW I just read a post about the FTC cracking down on this sort of thing.

Yeah, I read that too. There are already marketplaces, such as www.sponsoredreviews.com and www.payingpost.com.

These require you to disclose that the review has been sponsored otherwise you are leaving yourself wide open.

These work for all those bloggers out there that already monetize their sites, I was more considering about the other 90% that are excellent creative writers with huge followings that don't monetize their site.

First, learn their language. They really don't want to be thought of as "pimps".

Second, think about how you can help them instead of what you can "tap into".

Third, if you're really building relationships, start JVing with them -- offer a generous piece of the pie.

Bottom line: mom's like to help and share; mom's don't like being exploited.

Hope this helps,

Audre

Sorry Audre, the mommy bloggers freely call it 'pimping products' similar to 'pimp your ride', 'pimp your car' I didn't mean to offend, I thought if it was acceptable to refer to that in their own forum, that it would translate across.

I am a mommy blogger and I have 2 littlies, I just had my internet marketing hat on. I edited the post so as not to get off topic. I just think it could be a win-win if someone was to bring the expertise of the affiliate marketers here over to the mommy bloggers who don't monetize their site or don't know how - it could be a powerful combination and I don't think it has been done yet.

I have a neighbor I was trying to convince to be a "mommy blogger" lol. I think it's a great way to make some side cash.

If this is such a wide open market there are sure a lot of URLs available to tap into it.
