I have a multiple Godaddy hosting account and have always bought/renewed my names through Godaddy. However, there are much cheaper places about like namecheap and netfirms for domain names. I would like to ask: 1) Can a purchase a domain name from namecheap and still have it hosted under my Godaddy hosting? Do I have to buy domain names just through Godaddy? 2) For the names that I have already bought through Godaddy - when they come for renewal, can they be moved to namecheap - but still continued to be hosted under Godaddy? Thanks very much. Andy |

The answer to both questions is yes. You can register anywhere you want and host anywhere you want. George Wright Quote:

1. yes, you can purchase a domain from namecheap and host it on godaddy. You can buy domain from anywhere. 2. yes, you can continue with them and transfer to namecheap at the time of renewal. But it takes 3-7 days to transfer a domain from one registrar to another. So transfer you domain at least 15 days before the expiration date to avoid tension. Hope this helps. Regards, Umar Meo |

Just another quick question... I've registered a domain in Namecheap but want to host in Godaddy. What do I need to put into the domain registration setup in Namecheap to get things to work? Is it just a case of putting the Godaddy nameservers into the Namecheap domain setup? Also, will emailing for this domain still work through Godaddy? Thanks very much Andy |

Yea that's all ya have to do. I just got a domain from "GoDaddy" but have my hosting acct. with "HostGator". All I had to do was point my new domain to my nameservers at HostGator. It propagated in like 15 mins. |

Hey guys, I'm struggling to get my new domain going. ![]() To recap, I've bought a domain with Namecheap and want to run it under my Godaddy existing shared hosting account. I've got what I think are the correct nameservers from Godaddy and put them in my new domain's setup at Namecheap. Should the nameservers be the ones used for the root account in the Godaddy hosting? I have uploaded a test page to my Godaddy hosting and it doesnt want to display. I also cant ping the domain name. Am I missing something? How long should it take (with Namecheap and Godaddy) for it all to work? Many thanks. ![]() Andy |

Did you put the GoDaddy domain name servers (there should be two) in your NameCheap account? If so, it might not be immediate, sometimes it is quick to propogate sometimes its not. Sometimes your ISP is cached. If you can ask someone else (maybe someone on the forum) to check the domain name, you may find that someone else can reach it eventhough you can't. This has happened to me with Optonline a lot.

To the OP. NameGuard.com has a deal where they add the year you pay for to the end of your existing domain when you transfer. So you don't have to wait for a domain to get close to the due date to transfer. For instance, if you purchased a domain from godaddy last month, transferred it to NameGuard, the next payment due will be 12+11=23 months. |
