I do have just one more thing I might try. ![]() Everyones style is so different! I keep re-reading the rules and I'm probably over analyzing at this point. Someone suggested I may have been a bit too wordy which doesn't surprise me. I keep thinking I would vote for everyone elses but mine at this point. Your formula is much better in my opinion - your bullets are obvious, length is good, and I like how it has almost a press release feel to it. Ok, I need to get on this quick b/c I can already see this going by very quickly. Competition is looking stiff and looks like I need to pull out some serious guns if I'm going to have a chance in this fight. PS, something going on strange on this forum, I just saw a bunch of quoted things appear below my post that I didn't select to quote. | |

Okay...I love this. This is such a fascinating contest. Not sure whether I'll enter. Maybe. We'll see. BUT WHAT ARE MOST OF YOU THINKING ??? Here are 2 big problems (in my admittedly not so humble opinion -- but then I've written 10s of thousands, if not 100s of thousands, of words of copy critiques for a stable of enthusiastic clients...) The domain of the game is: copy, advertising, marketing. What do we know about this game? ATTENTION IS GOD! What else do we know? Thank you, Seth Godin -- people are slammed with thousands of marketing messages each day. WHAT IS MAKING YOUR MARKETING MESSAGE STAND OUT? I mean...from the get go. From the very first point where you even announce that you've made an entry? You're missing an opportunity. That link -- that link should say something that gets the reader's pulse racing more than: "My War Room Ad." See, your marketing has to stand out from the get go. From the earliest possible moment. (And, having written this, don't you think I'll get a whole lot more readers to my entry...just because I'm cheeky enough to put my two cents' worth in here? You're going to remember me. Why? Because I didn't take the standard route. THINK OUTSIDE THE BOX In more ways than one. How you introduce yourself, and your entry, is one way to think outside the box. It's actually thinking about the whole process. The whole process of delicious, delicate and fragile attention. NOW, I'M GOING TO BE EVEN MORE CHEEKY In fact, my criticism even goes after one of the entrants who is a very successful copywriter (but I think most people here don't know that. You might have to visit another forum to discover that.) Even his link to his entry has the most pablum-like, oatmeal-bland link. IT'S ALL ABOUT SEDUCTION... Every. Single. Piece. Start, from the very first thought, with seduction. How can I get people excited FROM THE GET GO. BIG PROBLEM #2: This is ALSO A "THINK OUTSIDE THE BOX" ISSUE. Wonderful that thinking outside the box can have so many facets to it. What is the FIRST think you should be doing as a marketer and/or copywriter? WHO IS YOUR MARKET? Has anyone asked Allen Word One About who the target market is? Oh, you think it's obvious? Okay -- then, is it for people who are long time members of the Warrior Forum -- know what the Warrior Forum is, know, or have heard of, the "War Room" ? Many of you are writing as though that's the case. You are making assumptions -- and you've never asked Allen question 1. (Except about deadlines, somewhat important -- and about images -- something which, as someone pointed out, that a careful reading of Allen's post would have easily revealed. Don't make your client think you are a dufus by asking already answered questions. Or, if you do (I admit, I do it!) -- frame it with things like "Okay, I just want to make double make sure", or "you probably mentioned this and I missed it", etc. This is not a cardinal sin, making assumptions. But if you are going to make assumptions -- start with the assumption of "know nothing" rather than "know something." Don't assume they know what the War Room is. Or even the Warrior Forum. Why would you do that, without first checking with Allen? I can't believe that y'all have been here in this wonderful place and are missing such a basic thing as asking "Who Is The Target Market?" Is it standing in front of the great guru Allen Says that makes your marketing IQ drop -- that you just assume Allen will have provided you with everything you needed to know to do the best possible job? Now, there was something else I was going to say. I think. Oh. It's still about this assumption stuff. And getting the click. You guys who have entries -- spark some interest in those links you put in this thread. Make everyone who comes to this thread want to click through to see if the rest of your copy is interesting. HEADLINES -- that's kinda what those links are like. They are places to grab attention. And if you want to make sales, you need to start grabbing attention IMMEDIATELY. So, you're going -- okay Miss Too-Big-For-Your-Britches -- what would you put there? Glad you asked. (heh heh heh.) What If It Should Go Away, And You Never Saw It? Okay, you smart marketers out there -- educate the rest -- what are the principles I'm using here? What's happening to the reader? (Why am I asking so many questions ?) Oh, and a subhead....but, of course, that wouldn't be part of the link. But it certainly can be part of the post that contains the link: "Few Talk About It, Keeping It Their Close-To-The-Vest Secret Of Success" Now, I don't claim these are star quality. These are just some of the first things that popped into my mind. I'm kinda involved in some other copywriting projects, so, with due respect to my clients -- even though I'd love to enter here -- I don't know whether I'll have the time. But, because of my love of the forum, and my love of you guys, and because, well, I can't stop the "copy critique" part of me -- I'm offering these thoughts for your consumption with the hope that it will raise the thinking on the contest. And if Allen wants to send me a 4-figure check just as thanks, I certainly won't object. LOL. Live JoyFully! Judy PS -- too funny. I just realized I've removed all the copywriting links, and links to my copy critique wso, from my signature...LOL. Script installations are a relaxing, and different, sort of challenge. And I've got enough writing on my plate at the moment. |

Dearest Allen, I've been inspired to ask a question or 3. ![]() Who is the target market for this ad? Will it be shown on the Forum here to members who have not converted or is this for the public in general? Or both? Can I submit more than one entry? I realize revisions can be made, but wanted to know if more than one entry is also allowed as I am unclear on that. Is this for users with high speed internet access? Or will you be looking to make this friendly to the dial up crowd? Thanks, Jill |

Well that about sums it up. "If this doesn't upset anyone, I'm not trying hard enough...I'll apologize later" If I don't win something I'm... not going to b!tch about it. I've made a crap ton of money from the forum already. |

One of the more interesting things about this contest—aside from the extremely generous prizes (Thanks, Allen)—is the ability to not only see your competition but to read their entries. This fairly unique situation can be a two-edged sword. While it's great to know exactly what your competition is doing there may be a tendency to think, "That's OK, but I can do it better", and then trying to "one-up" some other person's work. Or, in a slightly better case scenario, be inadvertently influenced by another submission. Having read only one submission in the test forum before deciding it was a bad idea I don't know if "thanks" are enabled. If they are and are being used that may also jaundice your view. So, as difficult as it will be, if I enter, I won't be doing—this one time only—competitive research. ![]() Just a couple things that occurred to me... Use them as you see fit, Elmer |

Ok, just updated again even though I'm waiting for answers on the other questions. Should I nudge when ever I update? What is the best procedure in all of this? a "Last updated" edit in bright colors in my original post so this thread does not turn into a forum of it's own? Who's watching shark tank tonight? |

I do see a couple entries by people who are not War Room members. Presumably, they'll fix that faux pas in short order. How come it doesn't say War Room Member under "Admin"? I suppose we can let that slide for now. |
