I have a question for everyone !!

If I happened to know about a specific niche domain name that is now inactive and unregistered but previously had a lot of article backlinks for certain long keywords how would you monatize it best. I already get the first step register the domain ! So anything beyond that would be great to see what different things people would do !

I would keep the site going in the same niche with updated information.
My favourite money maker is to find a product for that niche and make affiliate commissions on that.
the returns are better than adwords and if you build a good reationship with the visitors you can sell them multiple products.

Concentrate on getting the site active again first and update the content, Build a list of the visitors, Market some products, would my 3 step plan.

opt in > give value > offer low barrier to entry product > send buyers to seperate list > build value> Main Offer > build value > Multiple backend offers > sell business > spend days scratching self and eating ice cream in your expensive house.

I would make sure it was not a trademarked name, and I'd probably check some things like the wayback machine to see what the site looked like before it was dropped.

Black hat techniques that have been exposed can raise flags in the search engines on domains that were bad eggs in the past.

You may want to investigate some things before purchasing.

As with previous quote I know the person (and yes I just noticed the multiquote button doh) and I can honestly say they wouldn't have used even grey hat tactics. I tried the wayback machine and got no results I know it came offline about 3 years ago but the specific keywords are listing Page one and position 1-3 results from 900,000 plus results. I just feel there has to be a way to monatize it.

I know the previous owner and I can and will ask that specific question. But initially they chose a different direction for their online activities and the site was causing a conflict with a much larger and more profitable concern.

As Jill suggested you should check its page rank and history as well - if Google 'slapped' it you could face an uphill battle to regain legitimacy.

Consider using a blog on the site as well - Google seems to like blogs. I've also had a lot of luck using the community feature at iContact with email updates. Google indexes those entries rather quickly.

    Good luck,
