Default The Most Stupid Unsubscribe Reasons Thread

Sure for those of us that have a list , people unsubscribing is an inevitable consequence (although thankfully mine is very low)

But I am always curious when I get a reason.

This was one I got today from aweber

Reason:

"said 'yo Patrick' as if he's a friend''

I had to shake my head

Hahah, I guess you needed to start off at first base rather than going straight for third.

The best one I ever got was:

"I just signed up for coaching from Kevin Bidwell and so I am unsubscribing from everyone else's list so I can focus on his coaching."

It was when she unsubscribed FROM MY COACHING LIST.

I had to email he back directly and ask if she had possibly made a little mistake...

That was really funny

Here is one from my collection:

Quote:
I'm getting too many messages from mailing lists, so decided to get rid of some of them, since I'm taking the easy way of unsubscribing from some of them, I'm just taking the ones that have sent me the last messages, so you were just unlucky.

But anyway, i might join again in future, for i wasnt disappointed to it.

As some one who frequently unsubscribes from lists here is one I use:

"Due to your worthless uninformative emails offering nothing but thinly veiled sales pages, with the only intentions of getting me to click your affiliate link, I am going to replace your email list with some one who offers valuable information."

How's that for a stupid reason!

I offer my site visitors the option of receiving my free digital imaging ezine by email for their convenience (ie, they don't have to keep checking the page for something new to download on their own).

The blurb on the page where they sign up says, "Your email address is used only for the purpose of ezine and newsletter releases and related Plugs 'N Pixels notifications..." So I send them the ezine and follow up in between issues with emailed info about new product releases and discounts.

The vast majority of subscribers seem to have no problem with this. Occasionally I'll get a basic "Unsubscribe" email, so I reply with an option for these folks to just receive the ezine without the other emails. I won most of the unsubscribers back this way.

No problem; when people receive the ezine they get the product info anyway, just not as timely.

Hmmm. I get some doozies. The most fun recently were kind of new.

One fellow, after getting a 10 or 12 page newsletter, with 6 or 8 lines of advertising in it, blasted me for my "constant, excessive advertising and total lack of content."

Another read an article that started with "It's Paul again. Are you excited?" He sent me back a really nasty note about how I ought to be ashamed of myself for promoting these high-priced offers, with hidden gimmicks to trap people into monthly billing schemes.

Problem: There wasn't an ad anywhere in that message. For anything. When I asked him if he might have mixed his emails up, he replied that he saw the first line and assumed I was going to pitch the same thing he'd gotten a dozen emails about that day.

Another subscribed for the 112-page book, and then ripped me a new one because it was "too long." Dude, the page count is all over the sign-up page. Nobody said you had to read it all at once. Or at all, for that matter.

The best was the guy who signed up to get the ebook, and sent me back an unsubscribe that complained because it was, "Just a lot of words."

Yeah. A bit over 35,000 of them. What were you expecting in a business book? A 12-page photo layout of Miss February?

The most frequent I've seen is:

"unsuscribe"

Or some variation thereof.

Had one that threatened to call the police if I didn't remove her from the list. And, that was on an opt-in list that has an unsubscribe link in every message. If I remember right, I think the unsubscribe link was even quoted in her reply.

Yet they unsubbed? That's really funny.

My stupidest most recently was a woman who said, "I really don't want to receive information on ___________. If you could edit those parts out I would love to get your newsletter."

But that particular topic was one of the first listed on the squeeze page as one of the subjects of the newsletter.

Maybe I need to send out a customized version for everyone on the list? Everyone just let me know what you do and do not want to learn about and I'll adjust accordingly.

Apparently there is a need for some version of "The Idiots Guide to Unsubscribing." Perhaps someone should create a six video PLR tutorial series.

It used to annoy me when people sent an email complaining that they keep getting emails despite repeated efforts to unsubscribe. Like everyone else here, all my emails have clear unsubscribe links.

These are the people who think that when they hit the spam button, they are sending you a request to unsubscribe....Now I don't waste any energy trying to figure out how some people can be so clueless, nor do I attempt to educate them...I just unsubscribe them myself knowing that my spam complaint rate will be lower by at least 1 on my next broadcast.

I've recently updated a product of mine with some major changes that really take it to a new level. Upon completing it, I decided to send previous purchasers a complimentary upgrade. They weren't in an autoresponder list and it wasn't a huge number, so I just imported the sales data and sent the emails out by hand via my personal email account.

Most were very appreciative.

One customer, however, apparently reads emails the same way as Paul's subscriber above. She simply replied, "Get me off this list."

I don't know if she ever read the follow-up email either.

I am making up a reason, for the fun of it:

The reason i am subscribing:
I am unsubscribing, because I am getting married, and due to being 'under the thumb', wil no longer be able to check my email

How's that for a stupid reason!
Not trying to be harsh, but IF that's true (You're actually pitching them affiliate stuff all day), then anybody would unsubscribe. People are looking for value, and when you give them value you gain their trust. Now you have the right to "recommend" then a product (NOT sell them a product).

I had the same thing. There reason for unsubscribing was 'I don't know why I am receiving this email"

Of course the answer is because they just signed up to my list and agreed to get these messages from me. Hello!

Here's one of the more baffling unsubscribes I got:

""Nothing you have posted has been of any interest to me. You need to set up a call centre type of business, that's what people are interested in."

- Elizabeth"

Hmmm, Elizabeth is upset that we didn't set up a call center and also apparently took a poll of every person on the entire planet.
