Understanding Google Keyword Tool

Using the Google keyword tool I notice a keyword called 'spinning top battle' has a blank bar for competition.

When I type that same keyword into Google search I get

Results 1 - 10 of about 4,730,000

Are these the competing pages for the keyword?
If so then why was a blank bar shown for competition?

Advice appreciated

I think google is telling you there is no adwords competition (or very little) rather than no organic competition

I see. I did not know that...very interesting.

Is there any tool out there that will give the competing sites figure?

Market Samurai, and probably a few others. Wordtracker does it too, but it's rather slow.

I read that Wordtracker does not use Google, but takes it's information from the search engines called metacrawler and dogpile

That's correct, but it also has a tool to check google competition

It means Adwords competition. The only data I've found relatively reliable with the G tool is the estimated volume for searches (mostly on generics) and the keyword itself. The CPC prices are a joke, and you'll often find plenty of competition (thanks to broad match) on terms with a blank bar.

When you search for that phrase (in Google, not the keyword tool), you're getting every web-page in Google's index which has the words "spinning", "top" and "battle" in it...4,730,000 sites

That is VERY different from competition.

When you put the phrase in quotes...i.e. "spinning top battle", you see a completely different number...17,300.

That's the amount of web-pages that Google has seen that EXACT phrase in.

If you search for allintitle:spinning top battle...

You'll see that only 61 pages on the web have that phrase in their title tags.

And if you search for inurl: spinning top battle...

You get less than 10k results.

My opinion...you could get on the front page of Google very quickly for that phrase. Look at the competition (no quotes). None of it is particularly related. It's all inner pages (i.e. there's no site called spinning top battle dot com...or anything close)
