big G analytics on wordpress template

Does anyone know how I can add google analytics to my wordpress non-custom template?

I think the tracking is also integrated into some of the plugins like All-In-One SEO.

I'm always trying to find ways around adding more plugins.
The less the better.

Google gives you code. Add it to your templates footer.php.

Need to know how to do that? Ask and it'll be done :-)

Hey Craig! I heard some good press about you yesterday with Kevin Riley's show.

Anyways, I have the code and I pulled up my page source to view where to insert it. I just don't know how to apply it to the HTML and have it go live.

OK, in your footer.php you'll see what's called a closing body tag which
looks like this:
< / body > Without the spaces.

Paste your code right before the tag.

Oh I understood that. Let me clarify. I can take the html code and alter it, I just don't know what to do with that HTML code once it is altered.

There...I think that was what I meant to say.

btw, it wasn't just Kevin. There was more than one conspirator to this rumor that you'r a deliverer.

No code needs altering.

Just copy the code Google analytics gives you and paste it before
</body> in your footer.php then hit save. That's it.

You are only adding. Not deleting or changing anything.

Add the google provided code before the closing body tag - which looks like this </body>.

Then upload the HTML file back to the server and youre away. It can take 24 hours before analytics kicks in though.

Youtube is your friend. Questions like this one always have plenty of tutorials on youtube. I've just search YT for "add google analytics to wordpress" there are hundreds. With or without plugins. I agree with craig if it's not needed don't add the plugin. eats up your resources.

Right now I have that triangle "!" sign that tells me that tracking is not enabled. Is this normal for the first 24 hours? Should I see another symbol during this initial phase?

There are several wordpress plugins that automatically insert the Google Analytics code into your wordpress code (you just have to tell the plugin what your analytics ID is).

In the add new plugins form, just search for google analytics.
