Hard to say without more details, did you use permalinks prior to changing the theme?

Yeh, you need to set custom permalinks to /%postname%/

    Things to try:
    1) Try changing to the default permalink structure. If that cures it, then it could be that your .htaccess file needs changing. It might have somehow become corrupted when you switched themes.
    2) Make sure you have the latest version of Wordpress (2.8.4)

Sounds like a problem with your .htaccess file. If you are unsure of how to fix the problem, try contacting your hosting provider.

Did changing the permalink work, Sumit?

I keep a "working" .htaccess file on my computer - if I run into a problem I just use my ftp software to remove the non-working one and upload the working one. I can PM the contents to you if it would help.

.htaccess problems are almost certainly the problem.

In brief, an understanding of how wordpress works.

edited to add: (a sentence I thought I put in here...)
WP has stuff in it's database, and it has files. The files are the program files and are on your server. Your posts are kept in the database. However, thru the miracle of .htaccess, wordpress creates pages dynamically when it receives a posting url by pulling the post content from the database.
(did I say this? hmmm...) Wordpress stuffs everything into a database.

So, when you give it something that looks like a pagelink, then it gets transmuted thru the miracle of .htaccess magic into a database reference.

So, if you are getting a ton of 404 errors, that means something's wrong in the translation from URL to database access mechanism -- which is found, mostly, in the .htaccess file.

PS -- yah, I could probably fix it. But as messed up as that is, I'm afraid I'd have to charge you for it. Let me know if that interests you (via pm).

PPS -- you can try rosetree's htaccess file -- but that doesn't mean it will work for your specific wordpress configuration.

PPPS -- did you CAREFULLY read the installation requirements for the theme you downloaded? Any cautionary comments they may have made?

PPPPS -- this is WHY they tell you to back up your WP installation before making big changes (like a new theme.). Much easier to revert that way.

I switched the permalinks structure to default.

Then I changed it back to "/%postname%/"...

They said my .htaccess file couldn't be edited. So, I changed it's permission to 777. Then changed it again!

      Worked!

    Here's a thought:

"Now, I'm gonna try it out on WAMP before I do it on my site. "
