Hey, We discuss offline marketing methods a lot using the resources and skills that we all have, and well I just wanted to share a little story. A friend of mine makes bikes. He is working on trying to get a new bike company off the ground, they are cheap and light, and they deliver to the buyer, since they are mainly city base buyers. After discussing how he has no funds, and has no sales, just a surplus from his investment I told him I could make him sales. I explained that I could build a list of biking enthusiasts and market the bikes to them for a commission of the sale. I told him I would just need him to cover my development expenses which were all of $250. So we made an agreement, 30/70, 30% went to me. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ So I'm preparing my strategy to help him market, when he calls me and says: "Steve, I got this list of people of buyers and marathon racers from our old shop, is that useful?" My Response: Yes! I'll pick it up. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ My friend has 1,100 names, in excel format, I imported them into my autoresponder and developed a 5 day newsletter starting out with some Marathon information and moving into Equipment Reviews and Ending with the Bike Promotion. To MY surprise the list converted at nearly 20%, and I didn't have to do anything but write some copy. My friend made around 200 sales over our two day promotions. I got my commission. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ The Moral of the Story Check your local business's some may have a list that they have no idea what to do with. Even at 100-200 propose a free JV with them for commission and utilize THEIR resources for YOUR Profit! |

Great story...sometimes convincing lower-budget offline clients to spend hundreds per month on long-term SEO or PPC can be difficult. If they have assets to work with such as a list of old clients or leads, it's great to show them what you can do. If you're good and help them make sales, it's then a MUCH easier conversation on expanding their budget with you. Great job! |

That's awesome, Steve! I love how you think outside the box all the time. I'm working on landing a client who is a whiz at making websites but doesn't want anything to do with SEO or any of the marketing jazz. You just made the lightbulb go off over my head. I gotta shoot him an email. Thanks for the tip! John |

Hey Steve - great post. It's amazing how many people have list of previous clients and do nothing with them! It costs 7 - 14 times more the sell to a new customer than it does to market, build a relationship and sell to a new one. With existing customers - - You already know they are interested in your product/service, or something similar. - You know they have actively purchased in the last X months - You have already built that relationship, and as long as you took good care of them, they trust you. Explain this to your brick and mortar businesses and you can see lightbulbs go on straight away. The thing is, they don't know what to do next. What you did is 100% the most profitable way to manage the client - take a commission on the sales you generate. Not only does it reverse the risk and make it a no brainer for them, but as long as your sales copy and marketing techniques are up to scratch it will generate you 10 times the revenue it would do if you only took a set fee. I'm actually in the process of packaging up a 'Customer Reactivation' service, and will be marketing it to around 20 local businesses, and I get some reviews will roll it out further. I am hoping to generate 6 figure out of that side of my business in the next year - thats how lucrative it can be! |

Hey Everyone, Thanks for the comments, hope you do something with the moral. James, This is true. He was my friend. However, luckily where I live I can network and create relationships that turn into friendships that result in business deals. I completely agree with you, you shouldn't be a part of a scam. However, I'm pretty sure your just a troll using an autoposter or posting one liners to benefit from the WF, I'm never gonna be apart of it... |
