How to use Twitter

This 49 year old computer guy has never used Twitter before. It was easy enough to create a twitter account, but I really have no experience in using the service.

Can anyone suggest any ebooks or sites that can explain how to use the Twitter Service, and how to effectively use this service for internet marketing?

    It's just like picking up women.

    You aren't getting points sitting on the wall.

    You're not getting points talking about yourself.

    You're certainly not going to taker her home by talking about your work all the time or bragging.

    Instead,

    Be cool, and funny, interact with lots of people, pretend you don't really want to... you know sell her something good, and soon she'll start poking her nose around asking about you, asking your friends, and her friends, and generally be anxious to find out why you're so freaking awesome.

    The first thing you should do with twitter before even considering using it as a marketing tool, is build a list of at least 2000 followers.

    make sure you fill out your twitter bio with a link to your website. When you make interesting tweets, people will check your bio and click on your website link to find out more. You can also include links in your tweets, but if you do this too often, you will lose followers.

    I automate my twitter accounts (I have 5) using tweet adder which builds my followers on autopilot as well as sends automatic tweets etc.

    There are hundreds of twitter applications and another which I hear is good is twellow.

    Thanks Mike and Andy. Next week I will take a look in what you have to offer.

    I think I now understand how this Twitter Site works. When I joined I was automatically put on 20 other tweeter accounts (following).

    I did a test message and wrote something about seo. I already received 3 followers. One of these followers had a user name with seo inside it. Are these people some how scanning the entire tweeter network for keywords?

    I looking through the Digital Point forum and there are people offering services to get you followers based on a keyword or niche. They claim they can give you thousands of followers per day. Now would this be considered spamming? How many followers could be found without having a problem with your Twitter account?

    Your questions are answered in my ebook - don't give people money for any tool or system that says it will get you thouands of followers a day.

    They'll get you banned.

    The only legitimate way to get that many followers is with massive marketing - like Oprah mentioning you or something.

    I could set up 5000 Twitter accounts and make them all follow you, but that would be a waste of your time - so when people promise you such speedy results, walk away.
